Norma Moore
On Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the age of 77 years, Norma passed away suddenly while out for her morning walk.
Norma was born November 22, 1929 at Russell, Manitoba and grew up on a farm in the Woodstock District with her two loving parents Charles and Catherine and her two sisters Maxine and Lorna. It was here that Norma developed her love of farming and animals and became the hard worker that carried right through into her adult years. Norma was her Dad’s best friend and right hand man when it came to milking cows, haying and working the fields. Norma attended Woodstock school in her elementary years and later went to Binscarth where she completed High School.
At the age of 17, Norma journeyed to Winnipeg where she took teacher’s training at Normal School. Not only did she study hard to complete her training but she also worked in the kitchen to pay for her tuition.
Upon completing this training, Norma moved to the community of Keyes, Manitoba where she took her first teaching job in a Grade 1-9 country school. Christmas concerts, field days and Red Cross dances were all a part of her students’ education.
It was in Keyes that Norma met the love of her life, Richard Bruce Moore. On October 29, 1952 they were married in Russell, Manitoba. Norma became a farming partner with Bruce on their mixed dairy farm in the community of Keyes. Teaching and farming kept Norma busy for the first six years until on December 7, 1958 their only child Catherine Donna was born. From that day on Norma dedicated her life to her family and the farming operation.
Once retired, Norma and Bruce moved into their home on 6th Street in Gladstone. Norma’s personality traits of hard work, faithfulness and dedication became evident in her immaculate yard of flowers and vegetable garden and in her involvement in the community. Her greatest passion was her work with the Gladstone Arena where she was Secretary-Treasurer for 37 years. Norma could be seen at the arena both day and night trying to make sure that everything was running smoothly. As well, Norma was a part of the UCW, Women’s Institute, and the local Festival, Swimming Pool and Terry Fox Run Committees. For twelve years Norma was also a member of the Gladstone Town Council. Norma’s philosophy in life was to be involved and take part for the betterment of her family and community. Her teaching career did not end in Keyes as she continued to substitute teach for many years as part of the Pine Creek School Division. Norma’s care and concern for the youth of her community was exemplary.
Norma’s legacy will always be the kindness she bestowed on others. Whether a family member, friend, neighbor, co-worker, stranger, or animal was in need, her first priority was always to lend a helping hand as well as love and support.
Norma was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Norma was predeceased by her parents Charles and Catherine; brothers-in-law Harvey Hackman, Tom Moore, Bob Moore, and Ewart Murray: sisters-in-law Hazel Dodd, Marj Moore, and Jenny Moore; and two nieces Charlotte Campbell and Marilyn Murray. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Bruce and daughter Donna; her two sisters Maxine (Ron) Radford and Lorna Hackman; her sister-in-law Florence Murray; brother-in-law Jack (Norma) Dodd; 17 nieces and nephews, adopted grandchildren Brett and Hayley Weedon and many special friends, co-workers and community members.

Anna Driedger (nee Thiessen)
May 15, 1922 ~ December 9, 2007
Anna Driedger peacefully went to her eternal home on December 9, 2007, in time to be home for Christmas.
Anna was born in Blumenstein, Manitoba on May 15, 1922 to Jacob and Maria Thiessen, and together with seven siblings experienced farm life. As a teen she was baptized upon her confession of faith by Bishop Froese in the Old Colony Church in Chortitz.
On September 24, 1944 Anna was united in marriage to Henry Driedger and lived just west of Gnadenthal on a farm where four of their children were born. In 1952 they relocated to a farm in the Mason School district where four more children were born, making it a total of eight.
Then in 1962 the family made another move, this time to Austin, Manitoba, where they farmed until their retirement in 1993. After retirement mom and dad moved to their new home in Austin, which they enjoyed together until mom was admitted into a care home in April of 2003.
Mom was a great nurturer, diligently looking after her family’s needs and loved showing hospitality. Her garden was her pride and joy. Somehow with looking after the family needs, she always managed to keep the garden completely weed free and without herbicides. One of mom’s hobbies was making hand made quilts. She would work meticulously embroidering on the finest details.
Mom‘s love was endless when it came to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even the last week before her death she commented on how precious they all were to her.
In December of 2006 and into January 2007 mom had a brief struggle with her health, at which time it looked like her journey of life was coming to an end, however she rebounded in energy.
Then in December of 2007 mom’s health began to fail again. As family members spoke with her, she made it quite clear that she was tired and would like nothing more than to go to her eternal home to be with Jesus. Her wish was granted, much to our surprise, faster than we had anticipated. On December 9 in the evening mom took her last breath with family members by her side.
Though we grieve her loss and will miss her dearly, we also know mom now is once again able to move around on her own in her new body. We are also assured we will be reunited in heaven one day.
Anna leaves to mourn her husband Henry, her children Henry & Mary of Austin, Mary & Peter Voth of Hepburn, Saskatchewan, Jake & Frieda of Brandon, John & Tina of Rosenort, Steve & Sally of Winnipeg, Frank & Denise of Lowe Farm and Ann of Austin, plus 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She was predeceased by her parents, 1 son (in infancy), 3 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Samuels and the nurses of the MacGregor Personal Care Home for the awesome care given to mother during her stay. Thank you to the Sommerfeld Church Ladies group for serving the food, and thank you for the many cards, flowers and phone calls.
Mom fought the good fight, she kept the faith, she finished the course, and now there is laid up for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord Jesus will award her. The family.
Friends may called for visitation on Friday, December 14, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Clarke’s Funeral Chapel, MacGregor.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the MacGregor Sommerfeld Church with Rev. John Unrau officiating. Interment followed in the Sommerfeld Cemetery, Austin. Pallbearers were grandchildren.
