MAE MATTHEWS

December 08, 2004

MAE MATTHEWS Peacefully with family by her side, on Friday December 3, 2004 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Mae Matthews of Portage la Prairie passed away at the age of 91 years. Mae was born at Amaranth, MB on July 15, 1913 to John and Agnes Lupkey. She received her education at Amaranth. A kind and loving mother she was the sole provider, raising her four children in Langruth. In the early 1960s Mae moved to Portage la Prairie, where she worked two jobs, at the Mayfair Hotel and Gordon Motor Inn. After she retired at age 72 years, she continued to live in Portage la Prairie except for two years when she lived in Winnipeg. In 1995 Mae moved to the Lions Prairie Manor where she resided until her passing. Mae truly loved people, she was very hard working, generous, compassionate-natured with a delightful sense of humour. Mae attended the First Presbyterian Church prior to her illness. Mom leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Harvey, Bruce, and Jimmy; daughter Velma; special daughter Caron Rempel; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; twin sister Betty Potoroka and sister Alice Mayor; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, one brother Nicholas and one grandson Larry Scott Matthews. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie on Thursday, December 9 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jean Bryden officiating. Viewing will be one half hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. May you be happy in God's garden, And God's love around your flow, For all the happiness and humour you gave us, No one will ever know: It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone, Part of us went with you The day God called you home. Thank you Mom for all the wonderful memories. We will love you forever. Our thanks and deep gratitude to all the staff at the Lions Prairie Manor for the wonderful care that was given to our Mother. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc., 24-9th St. N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3V4. "Dedicated to those we serve".
