KENNETH WICK

December 08, 2004

KENNETH WILLIAM WICK In his 86th year, Dad died very peacefully with his daughter at his bedside on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Jocelyn House. Ken is survived by his brother Robert of Winnipeg and sister Helen (Bernard Jiggins) of California; daughter Margaret (Yvan Bineau); and grandchildren, Amber and Ryan. He was predeceased by his wife, Nettie, of nearly 60 years, who passed away in April 2000. Ken was the oldest of six children. The Wick children spent most of their youth growing up on Brooklyn Street in St. James - a community where Ken and Nettie bought their first and only home. Ken took great pride in his "green thumb". Ken planted and maintained a small vegetable garden and beautiful floral beds around his house right up until he moved into Jocelyn House this past September. Although he was a private person, Ken was blessed with the company and security provided by several long-standing neighbours to whom he and his family were very grateful. Ken enlisted in the Ordinance Core during the war, and later worked for Air Canada as a supervisor in the purchasing department in Winnipeg. He was transferred to Montreal, but retired in Winnipeg in 1973, returning to their original home. Dad will be remembered fondly. Humour and wit were just two of Ken's endearing qualities, qualities that made for widened eyes and bursts of laughter at family gatherings and outings. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. Our family is so thankful, Dad was able to be in the care of Jocelyn House. It is a wonderful place providing comfort to families and loved ones. If friends desire, donations may be made to Jocelyn House, 177 Egerton Rd., Winnipeg, R2M 2W7.
