FRANCISCA van HAAREN

September 01, 2004

FRANCISCA (FRANCES) van HAAREN (nee MUNSTERS) Frances van Haaren passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at Victoria General Hospital on August 27, 2004 with her son Peter at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Jan; sons, Frank, John and Henk; and thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Peter; grandchildren, David, Ricky, John, Brian, Michelle and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Stephan and Stephanie; daughter-in-law Valerie; and three sisters-in-law, Mien, Bertha and Marietje and numerous nieces and nephews. "Mom, Oma, Cisca, Tante Cis" was the matriarch of our family and lived up to her role with fervour, class and style. Her life was filled with many challenges, all of which she faced with courage and dignity. Her support to family in time of need was unparalleled. In 1960, as a recent widow, Frances followed her three siblings, Piet, Martien and Dora and emigrated from Holland with her four sons. She travelled extensively with her favourite companion, her sister and best friend, Dora. Their stories have entertained family for years. Tante Cis was famous for her poems and tributes at family occasions. The sound of her hearty laugh lingers as a most cherished memory. She loved to sing the Dutch songs, and with the slightest encouragement from family, had no hesitance taking centre stage. Even though legally blind, her passion for cards never diminished. Frances celebrated her 97th birthday just two weeks ago and as usual, accomplished it with style. It is a mark of her strength and endurance to note that she is the first in the Munsters family in 500 years to make it past the age of 90. Her mainstay was her family, especially her niece Peggy who was devoted to her care. Tante Cis cherished calls and visits from her grandchildren and especially the frequent visits from her only remaining son Peter. "Cisca, thank you for the wonderful example you set for us. Your gifts of love, laughter, and courage will always be remembered." The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital 3rd floor, especially Nicole and Paul for their outstanding care. Family and friends are invited to celebrate this very special lady's life on Friday, September 3 at St. Ignatius Church, Stafford and Corydon at 11:00 a.m.. Reception will follow the service at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home at 1291 McGillivray Blvd. 925-1120. THOMSON Funeral Home - 669 Broadway - 925-1120

AMOS BISSECK

August 31, 2004

AMOS EMILE BISSECK With deep sadness the family announces Emile's sudden passing at his Winnipeg home on Sunday, August 29, 2004, at the age of 72 years. Emile is survived by his loving wife Simone; his two sons, Dr. Marc Bisseck (daughter-in-law Susan and granddaughter Danielle) and Andre Bisseck; as well as extended family members in Cameroon and in Canada. He was predeceased by his parents. Emile was born in Cameroon, West Africa on August 5, 1932. As a young man he moved to Paris to pursue his career as a musician. While living in Paris, he met and married Simone Gentes, and their first son was born there. They moved to Winnipeg in 1974, where their second son was born. Emile worked in a number of different occupations, and retired about 10 years ago, but his passion was always his music. Emile was a well-known and respected percussionist, performing with several different groups, and was a mainstay performer at Folklorama for over 30 years. Of particular note was his role in the recent movie, "The Saddest Music in the World". Emile was also an enthusiastic busker at the Forks, and loved to entertain with his African xylophone and drums. He was also an avid fisherman. Family was very important to Emile, and he was a devoted husband and father. He was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments, and was delighted with his granddaughter Danielle.
