CONDREN KEATINGE
August 31, 2004
CONDREN REX KEATINGE August 7, 1947 to August 27, 2004 Con passed away suddenly at his residence in Grand Marais, MB. He was predeceased by his father Rex in February 2002. He is survived by his mother Myra; Valerie; Aunt Eileen and Uncle Jim Miller; cousins, Kevin (Karen) with son Craig, and Glenn. Con was born and raised in St. James and began his career with the North Kildonan Police Department in December 1966. It was during those years that the N.K. Police Chief proclaimed that Rex was a more appropriate name for a police officer, so Con became known to the members of the Department as Rex. Following amalgamation of the Police Departments, Rex served in the Robbery and Homicide Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Traffic Division of the Winnipeg Police Service. He was also involved in several high profile joint operations with the RCMP. He was the recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal in 1988 and retired in 1994 at the rank of Staff Sargent. Rex was held in high regard by many members of the Judiciary and Legal System, a relationship he cherished. Following his retirement, Rex worked for the TD Bank Security Office. In 1997, he moved to Grand Marais to be near the beach he enjoyed so much as a child. Shortly after his move, he began working for the Department of Justice, Province of Manitoba. At the time of his passing, Rex was also co-owner of the Grand Sands Motor Inn. Rex had many true and loyal friends whose companionship he loved. Many thanks to all of you for your support during this most difficult time. Rest in Peace Con Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8, or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2L 9Z9. RITA MAUREEN
August 31, 2004
SISTER RITA MAUREEN, SNJM (HELEN REDMOND) At St. Boniface Hospital on August 29, 2004, Sister Rita Maureen died as she had lived, radiating faith and love. Sister had spent the last eight years of her life in the infirmary of the Holy Names Sisters at the Residence Jesus-Marie in Saint Boniface and the last month at the Tache Centre. Born in Moose Jaw, SK, in 1914 to Augustine and Edith Redmond, Helen soon moved with her parents and only sibling Elizabeth (Betty) to Winnipeg. Here she entered St. Mary's Academy as a kindergarten and resident student. After receiving her BA from St. Mary's Academy College in 1935, she entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Holy Names in Outremont and committed herself definitively as a Holy Names Sister in 1942. Sister Rita Maureen served in several schools in Manitoba but most of her teaching years were spent at St. Mary's Academy. Here she made an important contribution to the physics and chemistry departments and a lasting legacy to the sports program. Mourning her passing are her Holy Names Sisters and the devoted infirmary staff of her convent. She will also be missed by her many, many former students from St. Mary's, now scattered far and wide, who have never forgotten her excellence as an educator and her heartfelt care for each of them. She was predeceased by her father who died when she was 11; her mother who passed away in 1948; and her beloved sister Betty whom she lost in 1984. In lieu of flowers, friends of Sister Rita Maureen, who so wish, may make a donation to the Sister Rita Maureen Bursary Fund of St. Mary's Academy, 550 Wellington Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3M 0C1. A prayer vigil will be held at the Residence Jesus-Marie, 321 Avenue de la Cathedrale, in Saint Boniface, on Tuesday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a reception. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Church on Wednesday, September 1 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street.
