MARILYN AUDREY LESLIE (nee GELEAN) April 15, 1940 - August 27, 2004 Peacefully, on Friday, August 27, surrounded by family, Marilyn walked through Heavens Gate to be eternally home with her Lord and Saviour. Marilyn leaves to mourn her passing, her son Les Cherwinski (Sherry); grandchildren, Tyler, Troy and Trevor; and daughter Debbie Scobbie; grandchildren, Vanessa, Natara, and Cole; brothers, Ray Gelean (Marilyn), Larry Gelean; sister Lorraine Fedoriw (Dave); sister-in-law Connie Gelean; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Melvin and Margaret Gelean and nephew Jason Gelean. Marilyn was born in Rose Valley, SK living in Archerwill, SK until she was 13 and then her family moved to Winnipeg, MB. She was very strong willed, hard working and independent with a unique personality which touched many lives. Before retirement Marilyn spent nearly 15 years with the Middle Church Nursing Home where she took great pride in caring for the elderly. She enjoyed many treasured, lasting friendships with her co-workers. Marilyn was an amazing Grandma (Nanny) with tremendous love and devotion for her grandchildren and family. She was always there to attend to their needs and share in their triumphs, being extremely proud of each and every one of them. Marilyn's passing leaves a deep ache in the hearts of all who loved her and she will live forever in their memories. The family thanks the third floor staff at Concordia Hospital and especially the Selkirk Home Care ladies that took loving care of her. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. Wayside Gospel Church, Grand Marais, MB. Interment will follow at St. Jude's Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

FRANCESCO (FRANK) MASI With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Francesco (Frank) Masi on Friday, August 27, 2004 at the St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 71. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Caterina; son Joe Masi (Sandra Simmons); daughters, Mirella (John) St. Jean and Gina (Todd) Rooker and grandsons, Marc and Ryan St. Jean and Nicholas Rooker. Frank is also greatly missed by brother-in-law Ralph (Fiorina) Aiello; father-in-law Giuseppe Aiello and many nephews, nieces, family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Maria Masi; mother-in-law Gaetania Aiello and sister Rosalia and brother-in-law Cesare Sheba. Frank was born April 6, 1933 in Amato, Italy. In 1961, he immigrated to Canada with his wife Caterina and three year old son Joe. Over the years, Frank worked as a maintenance mechanic for Perth's Dry Cleaning, Aqua Mechanics, and Canada West Shoes. With the gift of a technical mind, he always had a fix-it plan and the right tool for the job. The family cabin at Beaconia was a perfect example of his imagination and skills and he and Caterina and their family spent many enjoyable summers there. Frank is remembered for his entertaining stories, no-nonsense manner and the way his face lit up when he talked about his grandsons. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the St. Boniface Hospital for their care, kindness and understanding. Prayers will be said on Monday, August 30 in Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 31 in Holy Rosary Parish at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Aiello, Tony Aiello, Tony Gallo, Greg Grande, Pat Puccio and Tony Scarpino. REGINALD JAMES MURDOCK October 7, 1925 - August 27, 2004 Peacefully on August 27, 2004, Reginald James Murdock went to rest. Reg was predeceased by his father James Murdock; his mother Annie; his stepmother Racheal Murdock and his brother William Murdock. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty; his children, Teresa Mallette, Neil (Linda) Murdock, Keith, Darren (Sharon), Deanna (Rod) Traverse and Sheila Murdock; his grandchildren, Roland, Sheri and Rusty, Vanessa, Mitch and Ashley, Allison, Erica, Taylor, Marisa, Ian, Kalyn, Dakotah, Jordan and Elayna; his great-grandchildren, Dante, Mytayah, Angel, Trinity, Alexander and Stewart; sister Margaret Cochrane; brother Gordon Murdock; and many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and special friends. Reg was a commercial fisherman for many years and a school bus driver for 25 years, until his retirement. Many people know him as "Dootch". He was the kindest, warmest loving husband and father a family could have. He loved hockey, baseball and bingo, but most of all he loved being with his grandchildren and children, having family gatherings and being around people he loved. He will be lovingly remembered for the way he always let you know that he cared and for his sense of humour. ARVON JOSEPH (SHORTY) NIELSEN Arvon Joseph (Shorty) Nielsen was taken by cancer August 26, 2004. He was born January 4, 1932 in Lethbridge, AB and married Eileen Bachalo of Portage La Prairie in 1956. They have three daughters, Brenda (Christensen), Linda (Beaumont), Liana (Rudolph) and eight grandchildren. Arvon served with the R.C.M.P. for 29 years, stationed around Manitoba, and then was Chief Sheriff for the province until his retirement in 1996. HELEN PHILLIP In the early hours of August 28, 2004, our beloved mother, Helen Phillip, passed away at the Concordia General Hospital, at the age of 90 years. Helen will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Mona Phillip of Winnipeg; daughter Barbara Gail Leblanc and grandson John Leblanc of Edmonton, AB. She was predeceased by her parents, Nikola and Barbara Noga; stepfather Hnat Yuristy; husband Walter; son-in-law Victor; brothers, John, Peter and Bill; and sisters, Annie, Nellie, Elsie and Rose. Helen was born in Ethelbert on February 8, 1914. She began her working life in Dauphin as a housekeeper. With the encouragement of her brother Bill, Helen moved to Winnipeg and took up hairdressing. After graduating, she worked with Bill in his shop in Elmwood until his departure to California and then with her younger sister Rose. Helen went on to operate her own salon from the family home until her retirement in 1979. It was in Winnipeg that Helen met and married her beloved husband Walter. They were married in 1940 and moved to Victoria, BC upon his enlistment in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. After the war, they settled in Winnipeg eventually moving to Transcona in 1956 where they enjoyed many happy years together. Helen loved her home and was very proud of her yard and garden. She spent many hours in her kitchen making pickles, jams and jellies. Helen also was very accomplished at sewing, needlework and crafts. Her love for animals was unbounded and all of the family pets enjoyed her kind and tender care. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and tenants at Fred Douglas Heritage House for their care and support over the last three years and to all of the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their gentle care over the last few months. Your many kind deeds, words and gestures were so very appreciated and will not be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street at 11:00 a.m. on September 1. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, memorial donations made be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Fred Douglas Society or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
