JILL ROWE
August 23, 2004
JILL LOREE ROWE August 16, 1958 - August 21, 2004 After a lengthy illness with ALS, Jill left this world to be promoted to Guardian Angel to lovingly watch over all those she holds so dear. Jill is survived by her three precious children, Monte, Dustie and Riki; and by her children's father Brian Rodeck; her parents and her three brothers and families. Supportive during these difficult years were Jill's many friends and former coworkers. Jill, along with family and friends would like to thank home care for their excellent care. A special thank you to the St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward for the kindness and patience they bestowed on Jill during her stay with them. Grace Hospice was a great relief for Jill and many thanks to their wonderful staff for making her feel like she was home to stay. Jill graduated from Oak Park High School in 1976, then from the University of Manitoba, School of Social Work. Jill held several employment positions both prior to and following her degree. She taught swimming lessons at the Sargent Park Pool while attending university. Following graduation Jill sought employment at Villa Rosa, St. Amant Centre, Samuel Burland School and finally her greatest passion, with Winnipeg Child and Family Services. Jill spent the majority of her adult life as "mom", being home and caring for her three "SHINING STARS" who were the centre of her universe. She enjoyed many activities and field trips with her children in their early years. The children never lacked for their mom. When Jill wasn't taking her children to everything Winnipeg had to offer she was volunteering as her boys "Beaver" leader, her daughter's Brownie leader and attending every sporting event they were interested in. Jill's hopes for her children have always included love, health, happiness, independence and success in whatever direction life's path led them. She was always so very proud of all their hard work and accomplishments. TO MY CHILDREN Be weak for awhile if you must Let the tears come of what should have been... Be as proud of yourselves as I am of you Be as strong as I know you can be Go on with your lives with determination and strength Be the best that I know you can be... Time passes quickly, life is so short... We'll soon be together..you'll see Feel my arms around you always... And believe you are truly loved. Special thanks to WCFS for the benefit social held in Jill's honour which generously provided her lift chair, walker, electric wheelchair and family Orlando trip. Thanks especially to all her special friends for all of their support, encouragement, love, kindness and concern during Jill's difficult life journey. "Thanks for sticking it out till the end with me". A celebration of Jill's life will be held at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Dr., Wednesday, August 25 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Jill has requested that donations be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, the Rainbow Society or The ALS Society of Manitoba. I LOVE YOU ALL...... JILL

PAUL BERGER
August 21, 2004
PAUL BERGER January 6, 1923 - August 10, 2004 Our beloved husband, father and zaida passed away peacefully at the Sharon Home at the age of 81 years, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Eva; daughters, Yvette Berger and Sharon (Charles) Eisbrenner; son Lindsay (Aileen) Berger and grandsons, Simon and Adam Eisbrenner. Paul was born in Lvov, Poland (Lemberg). He was taken to a Russian work camp at the age of 16, when the Second World War started and joined the Red Army two years later. His mechanical inclination led to his occupations as a mechanic and a driver. He drove trucks, tanks and later a staff car for his colonel. Paul and Eva came to Winnipeg in 1950 and considered Winnipeg a paradise compared to war-ravaged Europe. He bought a truck as soon as he could, and quickly earned a living buying and selling scrap metal and later selling fruits and vegetables in rural Manitoba. His natural friendliness and gift for languages earned him many loyal customers amongst the farmers, as he could talk with them in their own language, whether English, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, German, French or Yiddish. During the winters, he would cut leather in Winnipeg's bustling garment industry, and later he made this a full time career. He worked at Rice Sportswear and later as the building manager at the Monash Manor. He was active in the General Monash Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Paul made friends easily, and up until a few months ago, he was still meeting and remembering friends from 25 or 30 years ago. He had an incredible joie de vivre, and was passionate about world affairs, politics and especially events in Israel. He was willing and able to argue with exuberant intelligence about almost any topic. Even though the Second World War cut his formal education short, he made up for it by always having his nose buried in a book, magazine or newspaper. He instilled a love of learning and intellectual pursuit in his children. He was kind, playful, passionate and fearless and had many other good qualities too numerous to mention. Paul's family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff of the Sharon Home, who made a difficult time easier to bear. Flowers are gratefully declined, and we respectfully ask that you make a contribution to a charity of your choice. We love you and miss you, Dad.
