ELIZABETH SANGSTER

August 21, 2004

ELIZABETH (BETH) SANGSTER (nee WILSON) Suddenly, on Monday, August 16, 2004, at the Victoria General Hospital, Beth, beloved wife of Arthur, passed away at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her husband Arthur, of 55 years of marriage; son Doug Sangster (Kathy) of The Pas, MB; daughter Ellen Smith; grandson Sandy Smith (Judy) of Winnipeg; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Beth was predeceased by her parents; four sisters and two brothers. Beth was born in Unity, SK to Lorne and Elizabeth Wilson. She received her schooling in Lilydale, SK and then moved with her family to Maidstone, SK. Beth served in the Royal Canadian Air Force WD Division and retired as a Corporal in Lachine, Quebec in 1946. She then moved to Winnipeg where she completed training at Success Business College. Beth and Art were married April 16, 1949 and resided in Charleswood for a number of years before moving to Garden Hill, The Pas and Thompson, as Art was employed with the Department of Indian Affairs. She worked at various secretarial positions in each of these locations. Beth and Art retired to Bowsman, MB in 1978. Beth was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #51. She was a member of the local senior's club and she enjoyed playing bingo, cards (especially cribbage), crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and caring for a succession of cats, most notably Samson. Beth and Art moved to Winnipeg in 1996 and most recently to the Golden Door Geriatric Centre. In accordance with Beth's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot in Mountview Cemetery, Silverwood, MB. Our family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at the Golden Door for all the care and concern during Mom's stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beth's memory may be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302 - 171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M3. REBECCA SMITH

REBECCA (BETSY) SMITH (nee BUSH) Peacefully, with her family at her side, Rebecca Smith passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2004, at the Grace Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Judith, Ted and Kathryn; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ruby, Colleen and Mildred. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital 2nd floor Surgery, family and friends, especially Marilyn and Mary-Anne, for their kindness and care. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave., with Rev. Ian Mills officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7, or a charity of one's choice. HELEN SUTYLA

HELEN SUTYLA (nee BONKOWSKI) Peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk, MB, Helen passed away at the age of 83 years with her family by her side. Helen was born on March 16, 1921 in Ledwyn, MB. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas (Tomko) in 1970 and Annie in 1922; her beloved husband Andrew on January 9, 1986; her daughter Marjorie on February 1, 1949; her brothers, Frank, Walter and Carl; and her sister Mary Obedzinski. Mom is survived by her loving children, sons, Philip (Janice), Donnie (Linda) and Jerry (Eileen) and daughters, Annette (Lawrence Feilberg) and Gail Larson (Lou); her grandchildren, Mark (Anita), Leanne, Jill (Kelly), Crystal (Nick) and Gregory; Cary (Tanya), Nicole (Alan), Barbi-Dee; Shannon, Kyle (Lindsey); Farrell (Tegan), Lori-Ann (Trevor), Lorella (Tim), Robin (Charles); and Ole; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Nicolas, Wyatt, Brogan, Silas, William and Abbey. Helen also leaves to mourn her passing her sister Tillie Obach and her special friend Eirikur Dahl. Helen and Andrew were married on October 2, 1938 in Ledwyn, MB. They later moved to God's Lake with their three children, until the tragic death of their daughter Marjorie. It was then that Mom and Dad, along with sons Philip and Donnie moved to Progress, MB. There they were blessed with three more children. Mom and Dad farmed the land until 1976 when dad retired. Mom loved cooking and gardening and continued to do so until 1985 when ill health forced them to move to the Icelandic River Lodge in Riverton. After Dad's passing, Mom remained living at the lodge until December 2002. That is where she met a good friend Eirikur Dahl and enjoyed spending many years together with him. Mom enjoyed playing cards, especially whist, carpet bowling and bingo. She liked listening to Nestor Pestor and of course Ann Murray. She also loved to hear a good joke. Mom moved to the Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk on December 20, 2002. She continued to play bingo and of course win. She also enjoyed peeling potatoes there. The family would like to thank the doctor, nurses and staff at the Tudor House Personal Care Home for the excellent care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24 at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church, Arborg, MB. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu will officiate. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Ledwyn, MB. ALBIN SOBKOWICH After a brief illness, Albin Sobkowich, beloved husband of Sharon Sobkowich, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Concordia Hospital. He was predeceased by his father Mike and mother Annie; father-in-law Nick Sawchyn; mother-in-law Katie Sawchyn; brothers-in-law, Ken Sawchyn, Fred Sawchyn, Elmer Wassill; and sisters-in-law, Edna Sobkowich and Grace Bohay. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Chris (Izzy) and grandchildren, Ross, Zoe and Teigan; Kevin (Deb); brother Ted; brother Carl (Shirley); sister Pat Moskal (Dave); Sharon's family: Norma Sawchyn, Sophie McLean (Paul), Helen Wassill, John Sawchyn (Jean), Steve Sawchyn (Elizabeth), Steve Bohay, Jean Sawchyn (Harry), Fran Sawchyn, Harry Sawchyn (Sheila), Eugene Sawchyn ( Karen); and numerous nephews and nieces. Prayers will be held Sunday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Holy Eucharist (Watt and Munroe) with Rev. GALE STEFANYSHYN

GALE MARIE STEFANYSHYN In the loving circle of family and friends, Gale Stefanyshyn, 39, peacefully left to join her Saviour on August 18, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Gale is now at peace. Gale was predeceased by her grandparents, Fred and Bernice Nahirney, Paul and Mary Stefanyshyn; and sister Sharon. Left to cherish Gale forever in their hearts are her parents Eddie and Irene; big brother Don; sister-in-law Wendy; precious niece Kayla; nephews, Desmond and Quentin Loutit; close cousin Laurie and husband Jerry; aunts, uncles, many dear friends from work, numerous cousins and friends. Gale was born on May 1, 1965 in Winnipeg, grew up and attended school in East Kildonan. She was a whirlwind of activity, giving 110% to whatever she was involved with at the time. Working at various legal and government jobs, Gale finally landed her dream job at the Federal Justice Department. She loved her work and the close friends she made were very dear to her heart. "Buddy Bird" was Gale's constant companion for 13 years, from the time she lovingly watched him peck his way free of his shell. Divine Liturgy to celebrate Gale's life will be sung at St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Ave. at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2004. As per Gale's wishes, cremation will then take place. The family wishes to thank all Gale's supporters - Katie, Heidi, family friends, doctors, homecare nurses and the workers and the Angels at CancerCare and Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. You are all very dedicated and have a special place in our hearts forever for the kindness you've shown our little girl during her battle. Flowers are gratefully declined. CHARLES MATTHEW STEWART November 18, 1928- August 18, 2004 Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, Charlie, aged 75, passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Mourning his loss, his beloved wife June of 50 years. Son Bob (Marilyn) and Bob's sons, Cameron (Brooke) and Ian and their mother, Debbie; son Bruce and his sons, Craig (Shaylene), Chris (Lisa) and Jeff and their mother, Kim; daughter Heather (Gerry Martin) and their children, Amy and Andrew. Great-granddaughters, Keanna, Jayden and Malorie. Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Robert Alexander Stewart (1947), Jean Reid Stewart (1975); sisters, Babs Stone (1954), Dorothy Price (1956); brother John Stewart (2001). Charlie was born and lived his entire life on the Stewart family farm in Lilyfield. He loved farming and raising cattle. He enjoyed cattle auctions and shows, making many good friends at these functions. He attended Phipps School and Stonewall Collegiate. During his early years he was in the Air Cadets, he also enjoyed playing baseball and hockey. As a young man he enjoyed curling and taught his future wife June how to curl. Charlie was a long time member of the Lilyfield Church. He served on Phipps and Stonewall School Boards and also he was on the Area Development Board. Some of his proudest moments were working and spending time with his grandchildren, even up to his last days. His pallbearers will be his six grandsons. Funeral service will be held Monday, August 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall, MB. Interment to follow at Lilyfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Lilyfield Cemetery, in care of The R.M. of Rosser. VIRGINIA SUTHERLAND

VIRGINIA SUTHERLAND It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mom, grandma and great-grandma, Virginia Sutherland on August 19, 2004 of Camperville, MB. Virginia passed away at the age of 77 years at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her loving husband Charlie; her daughters, Gloria, Evelyn and Adele. She leaves behind three sons, Garry, Bobby and Clifford (Susan); her four daughters, Mary (Jim), Elsie, Lorraine (Morris) and Lucie (Brian). Virginia also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A wake service will be held on Sunday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at the Camperville Community Hall.
