GEORGINA LEVEQUE (nee BEAUDRY) 1917 - 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, Georgina Leveque on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Tache Nursing Centre at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leo in 2000; son Lionel in 1991; sister Adele (Raymond); brother Leo (Irene); and brother Denis (Therese). Left to cherish her memory are her children, Berthe (Isaie), Gilbert (Marielle); daughter-in-law Arny; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne (Arthur), Anne (Louis); brothers, Henri (June), and Maurice (Caroline). She attended grade school in South-Junction, then St. Anne's Convent, St. Charles Convent, and graduated at Academie St. Joseph. She enjoyed many evenings playing piano for whoever cared to listen and accompanying her brother-in-law's fiddle tunes. Also, playing cards and doing crafts, volunteered playing piano at Deer Lodge Hospital, played the organ in church for 50 years and always looked forward to having visitors. A very special thank you to her sister Anne and husband Louis for the care and compassion throughout her final years, also, to her brother-in-law Romeo for his faithful visits. The family wish to acknowledge the staff of 2 ABC Tache Centre where they provided excellent care and made Mom and family comfortable during her time there. She will always be loved and remembered by all who knew her. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. #1 E. at Navin Road. SANDRA WILLIAMINA LIGHTFOOT February 17, 1959 - August 10, 2004 The family is greatly grieved to announce the passing of Sandra at the age of 45. She is survived by her daughter Rhiannon; mother Sarah; sister Heather; brothers, Ian, Bill and Sydney; nephews, Clinton, Jordan, Ryan, Sydney and Lawson; nieces, Brianne, Trinity, Tatiana and Hunter; grandniece Lily-Amber; and uncle Jimmy; as well as extended family, numerous close friends and special friend Dana. Sandra was proud to be a teacher and at the time of her passing Sandra was teaching at the Alhigra Islamic School whose teachers and students will miss her dearly. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held August 15 in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m., 1531 Pembina Hwy. WANDA LUBINSKI (nee BIJAK) Peacefully, on Sunday, August 8, 2004, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, Wanda passed away at the age of 79 years. She is survived by her children, Krystyna, Robert (Kay) and Gloria (Jarek); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Wanda was predeceased by her husband Jan in February 2000. In 1925, Wanda was born in Czeladz, Poland, to Jan and Stanislawa Bijak. Wanda and Jan were married in 1946 and immigrated to Canada in 1960 with their two children, Krystyna and Robert and then their third child, Gloria was born. She was a tremendous cook and enjoyed working in her garden. In accordance with Wanda's wishes and with prayers from Fr. Kazimierz of the Holy Ghost Parish, she was laid to rest with her dear husband Jan. Special thanks to Dr. Lerner, Dr. Kreml, the staff of the fifth floor and ICU for their kindness and compassion towards Mom and to her family to the end. Special thanks to her "angels, " Sharon and Rena, for their years of dedication; as well, many thanks to all her friends who comforted her through her many illnesses and are now comforting her family. DANNY HENRY LUCYK December 12, 1952 - August 8, 2004 It is with love and profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dear son in his 52nd year. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving mother Pauline. He was predeceased by his father, grandmother and grandfather and by his beloved dog Lady. Casper the cat will miss him. Danny worked for Pauwels Canada Inc. from 1972 to 2004. He dearly loved animals and birds, always taking injured birds home and letting them go when they could fly. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Who can say for certain, Maybe you're still here. I feel you all around me, Your memories are so clear. GLADYS LILIAN McCLENAGHAN It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Gladys Lilian McClenaghan at Deer Lodge Centre on August 6, 2004 after a lengthy illness. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Lilian Felstead; brothers, Harold, Frank and Peter; sister-in-law Louise; nephew Andrew all of England; brothers and sisters in-law, Wilbert and Eileen McClenaghan and Myrtle and Bill Ogg of Saskatchewan. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of nearly 61 years, Mort, residing at Deer Lodge Centre; daughter Susan Wiste, Winnipeg; son David McClenaghan (Cheryl), Kelowna; grandsons, Christian Wiste (Jamie), Winnipeg, Paul Wiste (Christine), London, England, Michael McClenaghan (Sheila), Edmonton, Jon McClenaghan (Lori), Kelowna, Scott McClenaghan, Kamloops; granddaughter Tara McClenaghan, Kamloops; great-granddaughter Jordan. She is also survived by her sister Joyce Chapman (Eric) London, England, very special niece Anne Starr (Michael) London, England, several nephews, nieces and their children in Canada and England, her best friend of 75 years Joyce Hallet, London, England, and goddaughter Anita Wrubleski (Dale), Winnipeg. Gladys was born on August 29, 1920 in London, England and came to Saskatchewan in May, 1945, one of the many thousands of war brides as they were called. She was a Londoner at heart and found it difficult to adapt to the Saskatchewan prairies so she was very happy when Dad was transferred to Winnipeg in 1968. Gladys was employed for many years at Boots Drug Store in Polo Park retiring in 1988. Our Mum and Nana was an independent, creative and loving person who loved to receive a bouquet of flowers or a letter from friends or family in the mail. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and many were the fortunate recipients of her lovely knitted baby sweaters or crocheted afghans. She never forgot a birthday and loved to shop for that "special something" for Christmas gifts. Our family wishes to thank Ellen, Cheryl, Charlie, Betty, Mylene, Lynn, Sylvia and staff of 3 South, Deer Lodge Centre for their care of Mum over the past several months. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba would be an appreciated tribute to Gladys' memory. Mum, Nana - enjoy the flowers in God's eternal garden. You will be forever in our hearts. JOHN (JACK) MORROW McGRATH On August 11, 2004, just two months after his 91st birthday, Jack McGrath passed away very suddenly at home. Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie; his daughters, Carol Scott (Larry Whitney), Pat Hunt (Bob), and Johanna Effler (Barry). He will be missed by his grandchildren, Kim Siddall, Susan Sullivan, Tracy Hunt and John and Margot Effler; and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Julia, Whitney and Brooke. Jack was predeceased by his father Andrew; mother Isabella; stepmothers, Minnie and Jean; and siblings, Mary, Margaret and Tom. A D-day veteran, Jack, enlisted in 1939 and was immediately sent overseas with the Canadian Signals Corps, not returning to Canada and his fiancee until 1945. After his return he was employed with Western Flyer Coach, retiring in 1979. Jack had served as honourary president of the Rockwood Army and Navy and Air Force Veterans Unit 303 since 2000. On behalf of the ANAF, he became a volunteer driver for the Hugo Convalescent Home and, until the day of his death, a volunteer pianist weekly there and also at Deer Lodge Centre. ANAF Canada awarded him a Life Membership in 1992 "in consideration of outstanding service since 1974". In 1996 he received a Certificate of Appreciation from Rockwood ANAF Unit 303 "for continuous service and comfort to veterans at Deer Lodge Centre, Hugo Street Convalescent Home and in our own club". His long-standing volunteer activities later resulted in a Winnipeg Community Service Award, a Winnipeg Police Service Certificate of Appreciation "in recognition of the outstanding commitment and support you have shown for the Winnipeg Police Service and the citizens of Winnipeg" and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. MEL McKELVEY Mel McKelvey of Dauphin passed away with his wife and mother-in-law by his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer and renal failure, on August 11, 2004, at Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 60 years. Mel was born on February 28, 1944, in Eriksdale, MB, to Mary and Joe McKelvey. They lived on the farm east of Ashern until Mel was 13 and the family moved to Ashern. The whole family enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle, and Mel learned to fish, hunt and trap at a young age, which he enjoyed throughout his life. While living on the farm, he attended Parker School, a one-room school, which he had many fond memories and stories of. He then attended school in Ashern after moving to town, and after completing his education, he worked at several construction jobs: The Manitoba Department of Highways, the City of Portage la Prairie Transportation Department and the Department of National Defense. Mel also worked on the Nelson River Hydro projects, and erected steel power lines from Northern Manitoba to Southern Manitoba. Mel had a life long passion for hunting and fishing. He belonged to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation and Benevolent Brotherhood of Elks, and the Royal Canadian Legion (Portage and Dauphin Branches). Mel always considered that his greatest achievement in life was raising his son Ken from the age of five until he left home. Mel took immeasurable pride and joy in seeing what a fine man Ken had become, and what a wonderful family of their own Kim and Ken are raising. Mel met Debbie (Johnson) of Vogar in 1988, and they were married 1992. They resided in Portage la Prairie until 1996 and Dauphin to the present day. They enjoyed camping and fishing together, as well as music and going on trips to see the grandchildren. Mel was predeceased by his mother Mary in 1980; his brother Richard in 1992; and his father Joe in 1993. Left to mourn and cherish Mel's memory are his loving wife and best friend Debbie; his beloved son Ken and his wife Kim, their children Katlin and Kirsten of Lloydminster, SK; his daughter Kandace Reichert of Lloydminster, AB, and her three daughters, Jade, Desiree and Hannah; his mother and father-in-law Bev and Paul Johnson of Vogar; his sister-in-law Lorraine and husband Kelly Johnson of Eddystone; brother-in-law Greg Johnson and wife Teresa of Vogar; sister-in-law Marlene and husband Brian Whitby of Gimli; grandparents-in-law, Mae and Ralph Poston of Winnipeg, Annie Johnson formerly of Vogar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Mel's Aunt Nettie Geisler of Ashern and cousin Dennis Geisler of Winnipeg also survive him. Mel was a quiet individual most of the time, who did not show his tender loving side to all, but those of us who knew him best knew his tender heart. The 10 nieces and nephews on Debbie's side knew Uncle Mel as a patient and caring uncle whom they will miss. He often stopped to do a good deed for a stranger and would drop everything to do something needed for a friend. He also had a strong will which enabled him to fight his many health problems that he was burdened with from a young age. He loved to play the guitar and sing, he loved to hook a big rainbow, he loved to shoot his buck every year using only one shell, he loved to laugh and he loved his special cat Sam very much. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverside Evergreen Chapel. Rev. Ellen Wood will officiate. If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Mel may be made to CancerCare Manitoba (Volunteer Food Carts) and Dauphin Regional Health Centre-Dialysis Unit. The family would like to thank Eleanor Snitka for her support and caring compassion that she showed to Mel and Debbie over the last year, Dr. Trina Mathison for her kind and compassionate care, the other doctors and staff of the Dauphin Medical Clinic who have helped Mel over the last eight years through his illnesses, Myles, Pat and Trevor and the other pharmacists and staff of the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy whose service and advice have greatly eased the burden of Mel's illnesses, Debbie Hamilton, Sharon and Lil of Chemotherapy, Donna Prokopowich and the other nurses and staff of the Haemodialysis unit - all of your kindness and care to Mel will never be forgotten; Dr. D. Houston and Barb Hues of CancerCare Manitoba for your care and compassion over the last six years. The Sneath Strilchuk Funeral Service has care of the arrangements. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He closed His arms around you, And He whispered. "Come to Me." You do not deserve what you went through, And so He gave you rest, God's garden must be beautiful, For He only takes from the best. In time we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, Our hearts were almost broken, You fought so hard to stay. But when we saw you sleeping, So peacefully from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. If you had spoken before you died, These are the words you would have replied, "Weep not for me, but courage take, And love one another for my sake."
