VERNA ADA PALMER (nee WARREN) June 3, 1926 - August 11, 2004 On August 11, God put His arms around Verna and took her home with Him. She is now safe and comfortable in God's home, Heaven. Verna is survived by her husband Allen; sons, Tyson (Elaine), Warren (Sylvanna), Kap (Dawna); daughter Gloria (Douglas) and grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Jennifer, Rodney, Todd, Koren, Justin, Sean, Steven, Bryan; brother James (Doris); sister Donna (Hyman); many nieces, nephews and cousins. As well many friends in Canada and USA. She was predeceased by her parents, Amy and Walter Warren. Verna was born in Ninette, MB. At the age of 17 she came to Winnipeg for employment. She worked at the Royal Bank, Main Office, where she met Al in 1947. After marriage Verna supported Al's career living in Carman, Rainy River, Ontario, Fisher Branch and back to Winnipeg. She was a stay at home Mum until the children had grown up, when she worked part-time at the CIBC. After Al's retirement they settled in Gimli, spending summers there and winters in Yuma, AZ. Verna started quilting for those in need in Yuma with a group of the R/V Park ladies. She continued this idea in Gimli making between 40/50 children size quilts yearly for the Evergreen Basic Needs Xmas Hamper Program. As well she knitted toques, scarves and slippers for the same group. Her other interests were RVing and dancing which Verna and Al did a lot of over the last 17 years. The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by Dr. Jacqui Montoedi, nurses and staff of the Gimli Community Health Centre. As well as Shannon Pyziak. Their kindness to Verna and her family went beyond normal standards. Thanks. Also thanks to the many Gimli friends, especially Jennie, Darlene and Louise. A funeral service celebrating Verna's life will be held on Monday, August 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Dr. (at the corner of Cottonwood and Autumnwood), Winnipeg, MB. GILBERT (BERT) RANDOLPH PAULLEY We sadly announce the passing of our dear cousin Bert on Sunday, August 1, 2004 in Campbell River, BC. Bert was born in Winnipeg, MB February 19, 1919 to Gil (Gilbert) and Dolly (Doris) Paulley. He was active in sports and served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. In July of 1943 Bert married his beloved Bunny (Thelma) Johnson. During their 53 years together they resided in Winnipeg, New Westminster, Calgary and Campbell River. Bert was predeceased by his mother in 1947; his father in 1948; and his wife in 1996. He is survived by many caring cousins throughout Canada and will be long remembered by his friends in Campbell River. Bert's ashes will be scattered at a later date. Thanks are extended to Veterans' Affairs Canada and to all who gave him nursing care at home these past months. Bert appreciated it so very much. Sutton's Funeral Directors Ltd. PHILLIP PERTSON Suddenly, but peacefully, at his residence on August 6, 2004, Phillip Pertson, aged 72 years, a longtime resident of Winnipeg Beach. Phillip was born in Foley, MB, on November 24, 1931. He later moved to Winnipeg Beach, then to Thompson where he worked at Inco for a few years before moving back to Winnipeg Beach where he worked at various jobs throughout the years. Phillip was a very independent, free spirited man who lived his life by his own beliefs. He was very well known throughout the community, and was a friend to all. He will always be remembered most vividly by most people, riding his bike and visiting with his coffee friends. He was predeceased by his father Mike in 1966; his mother Nettie in 1983. He leaves surviving his only sister Mary (John) Troyan; and special niece Deborah; and his many friends. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg Beach with Father Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. GARRETT PIGDEN Beloved son of Josephine Kerr and Jim Pigden, cherished brother of Pamela and Allison, wonderful grandson, nephew, cousin, stepson, friend and co-worker. Garrett's suffering came to an end in Toronto on August 8, 2004 in his 34th year. Garrett was adored by everyone whose life he touched. He will never be forgotten and will always be missed. A celebration of Garrett's life will be held in Vancouver on Wednesday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 8140 Saunders Rd., Richmond, BC. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice can be made in Garrett's memory. Thank you to all our friends and family for your love and support at this time of incredible sorrow.

PHILIP JAMES POWER We are saddened to announce the passing of Philip on August 10, 2004 in Concordia Hospital at the age of 76. Blessed with his memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, Lillian, his daughter Tannis Power and grandson Keaton. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Sadie (Ces) Goddard of Mossbank, SK; brother-in-law Maurice (Agnes) Peltier of Gull Lake, SK, brother-in-law Alvin Shaw (predeceased by Ruth) of Pennant, SK, brother-in-law Ray (Sally) Moorhouse of Saskatoon, SK; sister-in-law Iris Moorhouse (predeceased by George); brother-in-law Harry Moorhouse, brother-in-law Ken (Jean) Moorhouse of Canmore, AB; sister-in-law Wendy (Phil) Brauen of Stonewall, MB; brother-in-law Lionel (Vivian) Moorhouse and many other relatives. Predeceased by his father David and mother Sarah, sisters, Norah (Charlie) Bell, Kath (Les) Laevens, Pat Peltier and brother David. Born on July 24, 1928 in Pennant, SK, Phil left at the age of 13 to make a living for himself in Winnipeg. From 1950 to 1952 he served on the Special Service Force in the 2nd RCHA in Korea. He met Lillian shortly after. Once married, they settled in the Morse Place community. Phil enjoyed being outdoors doing many activities including hunting, fishing, camping, travelling and time spent at the lake. After retiring from Standard Aero, he spent much of his summers at Sunshine Beach and his winters woodworking. Phil has donated his body to research and there will be no services at his request. If you choose, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

GENEVE MARY ROBERTS (nee BOYANOSKI) Our mother, grandmother and aunt Geneve passed away on June 11, 2004 in Calgary, AB following a brief illness. Geneve was born in Arborg, MB in 1917; the youngest daughter of Emil and Julia Boyanoski. After completing her high school education, she attended Success Commercial College in Winnipeg and went to work for Acklands, Canadian National Railways, and the T. Eaton Company as an accounting clerk. In her later years, she also worked for the Hudson Bay Company in a similar capacity. Geneve was married to Jim Roberts Sr. in 1950. In 1956, the family moved to Fort Garry, where Geneve lived until moving to Calgary in the fall of 2003. Geneve was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Jim Roberts Sr.; her brother Stanley Boyne; and her sisters, Victoria Smith and Wanda Whitehead. She is survived by her brother Frank Boyanoski of Brampton, ON; and her three sons, Jim Jr. (Jill) of Winnipeg, Bruce (Gwen) of Calgary, and John of Vancouver. She will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Brett, Erica and Christina Roberts of Calgary; as well as by her nieces, nephews and their families across Canada. Geneve took great pride in her home, her garden, and in the accomplishments of her children. She had many friends in the Fort Garry community, especially among the congregation at Fort Garry United Church, where she attended regularly for many years. In accordance with Geneve's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 19 at the Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Geneve's memory to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.

FAHMY SAAD SALEM It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather at Victoria General Hospital on August 11, 2004, at the age of 86, preceded by his wife Loulou Banoub of 36 years. Dad will be missed by his daughter Magda (Dr. Kamal); and his son Dr. Fayez (Inas) Salem. Gedo will be missed by his grandchildren, Maryse (Dr. George), Dr. Ihab Louis (Nancy), Tamer, Sandra and Danielle Salem; and his great-grandchildren, Habib and Valerie. He will always be remembered by the stories he told them and his love to teach them the Coptic language. Dad was a distinguished chartered accountant and a banker. He worked in different banks over the years, mainly the Central Bank of Egypt and the IMF, where he founded the Central Banks of Yemen and the Sudan. He leaves to mourn numerous relatives and friends in both Cairo, Egypt and Winnipeg, especially Adel Takla, Mario Costantini, Dr. Magdi Zaki, Dr. Amazis Louka and the rest of the members of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, where he was an active member. The family would like to thank the homecare workers, Golden Links, and the Rendez-Vous Club. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 15 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, 303 Lakewood Blvd., with Father Marcos Farag officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery at the Mennonite Memorial Gardens at Symington Road. A reception will be held after the interment at the St. Mark Church hall.
