EDITH PYZYK (nee LEONHART) Peacefully, on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Red River Place, Selkirk, MB, Edith Pyzyk beloved wife of the late Wasyl Pyzyk. Edith was born in Poland on February 2, 1923. She immigrated to Canada in 1925, residing in Ashern before moving to Winnipeg. She was employed at The Bay for 34 years. Edith leaves to cherish her memory her nephew Lee and wife Gail; great-nephews, Chris and Jay; niece Lona and her husband Bob; great-nephew Gary; great-niece Karen (Mark) and great-great-niece Kyla; niece Gloria and husband Lloyd. She was predeceased by her husband Wasyl; father Michael, mother Adeline and brother August. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 11 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Fr. N. Yakiwchuk officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. ALMA RICHARDSON February 16, 1917 - August 6, 2004 After a tenacious hold on life, Alma Richardson passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at the Charleswood Care Centre surrounded by her niece and nephew, Murial Klause and Hugh MacTavish. She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 1992, four sisters and two brothers. Alma is survived by her children, Bruce and Darlene Corbett, Marlene and Gary Dutton; two stepchildren, Lois Jean Williams and Mel Richardson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister Ada; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends Born in Birch River in 1917, Alma worked for Eaton's at the Elizabeth Arden counter. She was a devoted wife and mother. Alma enjoyed having dinner parties, was interested in fashion, loved to travel, and had a special love for her dog Susie. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charleswood Care Centre, 5501 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G8. EDWARD ALFRED SOKALSKI Peacefully, with his loving family by his side, our dad and husband passed away on August 5, 2004. Ed will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Ardeen; daughter Monica (Scott); sons Derek (Janet) and Mike; grandchildren Janna, Courtney, Rayna and Shawn; brothers John (Karen), Tom (Francis) and Stan (Eileen) and many nieces and nephews and close friends. Dad was raised in Elkhorn, MB. At a young age he joined the Air Force and was posted to Gimli, MB. In 1955 her met and married Ardeen Dandy. He always cherished the time he spent at the Dandy farm. His employment with the forces transferred his family from Winnipeg, MB (in 1961) to Calgary, AB. to Trenton, ON. and back to Winnipeg, MB (in 1969), each time building a beautiful home for his family. After 20 years with the Air Force Dad decided enough moving, so he took early retirement. Dad then became employed with Air Canada. In later years he was fortunate to travel and see many different countries. Over the years, Dad was an avid golfer and loved playing for "snips"! He taught all of his children to golf and was always a strong supporter of all their sports. Ed's unique sense of humour will be missed by many. Those at his block will always remember "Ed's Rules". JOHN WILLIAM BRACKEN January 6, 1916 - January 5, 2003 On Sunday, January 5, 2003 at the Sunnywood Manor, Pine Falls, MB, John Bracken aged 86 years, beloved husband of Clara Bracken of Pine Falls, MB. Besides his loving wife Clara he leaves to cherish his memory a son Jack (special friend Kay Rochon) of Revelstoke, BC, and his children, Deanne Kelsberg (Brian), Tracy Carslake her son Jeff, Bill Bracken Jennifer and their daughter Carolynne, Shawn Bracken (special friend Kathy); daughter Pat Kropp (Richard) of Great Falls, MB and their children Tim Kropp (Tamara) and their daughter Taylor, Marni Dackiw (Steve). Also surviving are five sisters and seven brothers as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter Noreen, son Garry and a brother Howard. John was born January 6, 1916 in Tessier, SK and throughout his life he never was afraid of hard work, he farmed, worked for Manitoba Hydro and was a Seed Buyer. He served as Reeve for the R.M. of Alexander, on the Board of the North Eastern Health Association, belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club. He loved to go to the Threshermen's Reunion in Austin to see the antique farm equipment and the Morris Rodeo. John also enjoyed watching hockey and baseball in his free time. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of John's life will be held on Wednesday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. from the Pine Falls United Church, Pine Falls, MB with Rev. Bonita Garrett officiating. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Sunnywood Manor Council, Pine Falls, MB or, to the Alzheimer Society or to the Cystic Fibrosis Society. MAUREEN E. STACEY On August 1, 2004, Maureen Stacey passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Predeceased by her husband Bill in 1993. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kevin and David; her best friend Vicki; and her lodge sisters and brothers. Maureen was born in Winnipeg, grew up in the West End and attended St Mary's Academy and Success Business College. Maureen worked for several employers, including hospitals and hotels, until she married Bill in 1957. Maureen had held numerous volunteer positions, such as Noble Grand of Olive Branch Historic Rebekah Lodge No. 1, Queen Ashayhi of El Hagar Zuanna No. 132, was a member of the Sick Visiting Committee, the Navy League Ladies Auxiliary, and the Catholic Women's League. Maureen worked to build the new General Wolfe School in 1975 and participated in the sod turning ceremony. We would like to thank Julia, her home care worker for caring for her during her time at home. We would also like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital who cared for and comforted her while in the hospital. EDMOND LEO CARLTON SYMONDS (LEO) 1933 - 2004 Peacefully on August 8, 2004, Leo Symonds passed away at his home. Leo Symonds was born in Hammonds Plains, NS on July 20, 1933. He came to Winnipeg in 1951 while working for C.P.R., graduated from M.I.T. and became a baker. He also had a second career as a jazz guitarist. Leo was predeceased by his wife and fishing buddy, Addy; his parents, Edmond and Gertrude; his brothers, Charlie, Basil and Claude; and sister Corrine. He is survived by his sons, Richard and Michael; brother Ralph (Louise); sisters-in-law, Stella Symonds and Terry Sumter; and nieces and nephews. The family would like to give thanks for their friendship and kindness, Louie Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Zenchuk, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Friessen, Mr. and Mrs. H.C.
