FRANK OBERICK
August 10, 2004
FRANK OBERICK Mr. Frank Oberick, aged 89 years, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Though our hearts are heavy, we feel tremendously blessed for the precious years we had to live in the company of his gracious spirit and infinite devotion. Frank leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and the love of his life, Olga. Frank's love for Olga was steadfast and pure. For 60 years they walked hand in hand, as they faced every heartache and triumph with love and loyalty. In June of this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in the company of family and friends. Frank also leaves behind his four children, sons, Ron (Linda), Rick (Doreen), Wayne (Angel); and daughter Pat (Robert); as well as his grandchildren, Daryl (Caroline), Colleen, Shaena, Chantel, Shawn, Cory, Kyle, Matthew and Sarah; and his great-grandchildren, Trent, Brennan and Michayla. He is also survived by his sisters, Frances, Mary and Sally; and by his brother Paul; and sister-in-law Eleanor and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Michael; his mother Katherine; brothers, Mike and John; and great-grandson Dylan. Frank was born in Melrose on April 2, 1915. He farmed in Highland Glen before moving to Garson where he worked for Gillis Quarries for 28 years. Following that, he worked as a custodial supervisor for the Provincial Building in Beausejour. Frank was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Church in Garson, MB. His faith was unwavering and evident in the way he treated others. His most treasured times were spent visiting with his family, working in the yard, and enjoying the company of friends. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Golden Age Seniors' Club in Garson of which he was a member for 20 years. He will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him. Frank was held in high esteem by all, but it was the respect of his family that mattered most. Through example, he raised children who became parents worthy of the respect his own children held for him. His gentle kindness and gentle strength drew his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to him. Frank couldn't stand to see anyone hungry, and everyone who visited him left with a full stomach and a full heart. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, MB. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Cook's Creek, MB on Thursday, August 12 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Garson, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Health Science Centre Foundation, Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. MARY PICK Mary Pick (nee Prociuk), passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre, in Winnipeg, MB. Mary is predeceased by brother Mike; and sisters, Ann and Margaret; also by husband William (Bill) Pick; son Leonard; daughter Barb; daughter-in-law Marcia; son Archie; and granddaughter Susan. Survived by sister Eileen; grandchildren, David (Christine) Kirsten (John), Jennifer (Chris); great-grandchildren, Jake and Luke; and many other extended members of the Pich and Prociuk families. Mary was born in Stuartburn, MB on June 14, 1914. Her parents, Stephan and Nellie (Anastasia) Prociuk emigrated from Philpchia, Broschiu Ukraine. Mary was married to her lifelong love Bill on August 5, 1935 in Dauphin at Resurrection Ukrainian Church. Mary was the beloved and loving matriarch of our family. She was a wise, graceful and strong woman, who cherished life's joys, especially those shared with her family and friends. She was a woman of endless strength, who worked hard all her life, and yet never complained of being tired. Mary was a brave woman, who endured and thrived despite unbearable loss in her life. She enjoyed her long career as a dietician's aid for the Winnipeg Municipal Hospital from 1956 until she retired at 60. She was our grandma, our friend, our confidante and councillor, gardening pro and champion perogy-maker. Mary never tired of conversation, a good game of canasta and time spent with the people she loved. As her physical body aged, her spirit endured, in the sparkle of her eyes, in her sweet smile, and the soft giggle we will all miss so much. Above all else, Mary's kindness, selflessness and giving spirit set her apart from the rest. Her unconditional love and boundless generosity are a legacy to us all. Mary's spirit will live on in the hearts and lives of all who loved her. Donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Riverview Health Centre. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A reception will follow in the Fort Garry Reception Centre. GERTRUDE POIRIER
August 10, 2004
GERTRUDE (GERTIE) POIRIER (nee PELLETIER) Peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2004 Gertrude "Gertie" Poirier passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital with her family by her side. Besides her loving husband of 55 years, Ralph "Raoul", she leaves to mourn her two sons, Robert and Bernard "Berny" and his wife Marie (Deault) and grandchildren, Ronald, Natalie and Valerie; one sister-in-law Mrs. Juliette Pelletier. Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, Telesphore and Leda (Pedneault) Pelletier; as well as her brothers, Amedee "Jack", Gustave, Alfred, Jean-Baptiste, and Albert "Bert"; and sisters, Therese Marchand, Angeline "Toots" LaRiviere, and Sister Eva Pelletier (Soeur Gertrude-Marie, fdlc). Born in St. Boniface on May 19, 1915, Gertrude attended boarding school in St. Adolphe. As a young woman, she worked at Sovereign Life and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool where she made many lifelong friends including Marcelle (Rocan) Gaudry, Margaret Fraser and Gladys (Craig) Pavloff. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Raoul, and in her final days she always exhorted us to "look after her daddy". Being the youngest of the family, she was closer in age to many of her nieces and nephews, her welcoming spirit was always ready to accommodate one or more for supper at "Gertie's Inn." After Dad's retirement in 1981, Gertrude always looked forward to her daily breakfast at Salisbury House, where the staff were even more important to her than the meals. Gertrude and Ralph were able to take several trips to Florida and British Columbia, and in later years to Saskatoon to visit the grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their care and attention to Mom's needs, as well as Audrey and Dr. Jean Prenovault of Windsor Park Medical Clinic. Special thanks to her "angel", Wendy Hoffman. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, August 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 East and Navin Road. Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Precious Blood Church/L'Eglise Precieux-Sang, 200 Kenny St. (St. Boniface). Rev. Fr. Isaie Blanchette, o.m.i will preside. Entombment will follow in Holy Angel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 2nd Floor, 629 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
