JOHN TURCHEN Suddenly on July 19, 2004, John passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86. He was predeceased by one sister, Mary; and a brother, Gerry. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 56 years, Clara; daughter Janice (Bob Nantais); son Barry (Gigi); grandchildren, Lisa (Gary), Suzi (David), Robert (Helen), David (Casey) and Tim; six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad worked in the fur industry and later he was self-employed as an upholsterer. He loved the outdoors, spending his time golfing. He was a great family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. People loved his generous heart and wonderful sense of humour. At John's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held at this time. CONSUELO MORTELA VELASCO December 10, 1926- July 21, 2004 Consuelo (Inang Conching) Mortela Velasco suddenly passed away due to an undiagnosed illness. Inang Conching leaves to cherish her memory her son Rev. Alfredo Velasco (Lourdes), grandchildren, Lester, Arlee and Arnel of Winnipeg, and son Teofilo Velasco (Emmeline), grandchildren, Jeffhraim and Teofilo Jr., in The Philippines, as well as her youngest sister Alejandra Laurea also of Winnipeg. Inang Conching was born in The Philippines, and resided in Winnipeg for the last four years. Lamay will be held on Sunday, July 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, and a "Homegoing Service" will be held at 8:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m., at the Filipino Community Church of the Nazarene (FCCN), 214 Henderson Hwy. (at Noble Ave.), with Rev. Dr. Daniel S. Gales, Superintendent of Canada West Church of the Nazarene, and Rev. Pastor Manoj Ingle of New Hope Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. The Velasco and Laurea families wish to thank the many friends for your loving support at this the saddest time of our lives, during our mother and sister's passing, especially the congregation of the FCCN. GLICERINO VENDIVIL VILLANUEVA It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, Glicerino (Bong) Villanueva, on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the age of 37 years. His memory will be forever cherished, and he will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 10 years Ruth; and his precious children, Yahweh (9) and Raphael (7); his mother Teresita Villanueva; sister Annalisa (Mandy); and niece Adriana; sister Marife (Vergel); and nephew Vince. Bong was born on Wednesday, December 21, 1966 in Bulacan, Philippines. At 21 years of age he immigrated to Canada in September of 1989, returning to the Philippines to marry the love of his life, Ruth on Tuesday, February 8, 1994. As they made their home in Winnipeg with their two sons, Bong was employed as a mechanic at C & E Motors for five years, and most recently New Flyer Industries. His passion involved repairing cars for his family and friends, and spending quality time with his wife and children, taking many family road trips together. Lamay (viewing) will be held on Saturday, July 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight (with prayers being said at 8:00 p.m.), at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 818 Arlington St., with Rev. Fr. Mariano Batucan presiding. Interment will take place at a later date in the Philippines. Active pallbearers will be messrs, Paul Figueroa, Max Figueroa, Lorenzo Lans, Nestor Panganiban, Joseph deLima, Cesar Figueroa, Ed Munoz and Elmel Pilapil. Special thanks to the following people who are his longtime friends for their love and support during this difficult time, godparents, Ralph and Dolores San Juan, Joseph deLima, Paul Figueroa, Henry Cabalu, Uncle Jamie (Bella) and children. On behalf of his wife and children, many thanks to Grace, Agnes, Joy, Alicia and Carol, the R.C.M.P. and many others who gave their support, sympathy and condolences. KEN R. WALSH After a courageous battle with COPD, Ken passed away on July 20, 2004 at Deer Lodge Centre. His memory will be cherished by loving wife of 49 years, Lillian and children, Barry (Wendy); granddaughter Katie; and Scott (Brenda). He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers, several nieces and nephews and extended family in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba. Ken was born in Bathurst, NB on February 5, 1925 and grew up in Montreal. He served 25 years in the Armed Forces, including four years overseas in the Second World War, Korea and Egypt. Following his retirement from the military, he enjoyed 11 years with Scotiabank. Ken and Lillian spent 10 wonderful years in Mission BC and returned to Winnipeg in 1997. The past seven years, living at The Courts of St. James, have been very special to them. Ken loved to laugh and had a sense of humour which didn't diminish, even in his last hours. In keeping with Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. ALBERT WALTER WILSON Albert passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the age of 73 years. Al will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Kim; grandchildren, Kelsey and Colin; daughter Judi; longtime friend Marie; and many relatives and friends. He retired to Moth Lake, ON in 1991 after 45 years with Stovels, later known as LGM Graphics. Al enjoyed sharing his zest for life and many wonderful years snowmobiling, quadding, and fishing at the lake. Special thanks to Dr. Czaykowski, Kristie, Pat Gray and Eva at CancerCare Manitoba. Thanks also to the staff on 3East at Riverview for their great care and compassion. At Al's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. A reception will follow. ISAYAS ZERU July 18, 1973 - July 14, 2004 Isayas Zeru, son of Mr. Habtemariam Zeru and Mrs. Zeharia Asfeha was born on July 18, 1973 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he attended his elementary and junior high. He moved to Asmara, Eritrea and completed his high school there. In 1998 Isayas left for South Africa where he lived for two years. He immigrated to Canada on October 17, 2000. Isayas died on July 14, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada. He was preceded by his father Mr. Habtemariam Zeru and mother Mrs. Zeharia Asfeha. On behalf of all his brothers, sisters, other family members and my self I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff on ward 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital, to all his friends, acquaintances and other persons who have visited, comforted and supported him during the time of his sickness. Special thanks to the members of the Eritrean and Ethiopian Communities, to the Holy Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Winnipeg, and other Canadians who have given me unconditional support since the time of my arrival from Sweden to look after my brother. I would also like to express my genuine gratitude for the donations that have now made possible to send Isayas' body back home. Rest in Peace Isayas dear, we all love you!
