LOUIS JANIS 1924 - 2004 A beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 80. He leaves to mourn his wife Cecelia, daughters, Daphne and Heather and granddaughter Lara. Louis and Cecelia were married in 1945 and began farming in Montmartre, SK until they moved to Toronto. After a year in Toronto they resumed farming at Starbuck, MB. Louis was a member of the Manitoba Flying Farmers. Louis loved to farm and was a great mechanic never ceasing to find innovative ways to make life simpler and easier. In 1980 Louis and Cecelia moved to Winnipeg where he began a new challenge of being a loving and attentive grandfather. Louis and Cecelia celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1995 and their 59th on July 4, 2004. Louis and Cecelia enjoyed playing golf, camping and holidaying in the South during the winter months. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of 3 North at the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jocelyn House at 177 Egerton Rd. Ph: 255-1781. Interment will have taken place. Funeral service on Tuesday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Roblin at Grant.

DORIS MARY MACDONELL (nee FRASER) June 27, 1917 - July 21, 2004 Passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous two year struggle with bone cancer at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 22 years Gordon Thomas MacDonell; her mother Lillis Maude Webster; her father Oliver Stanley Fraser and her younger sister Margaret (Peg) Mitchell. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her cousin Joan Ross in Winnipeg; step-children, Joan Kullman (William), Douglas MacDonell (Lynn), Lynne Pinterics (Jean) and their families in Winnipeg and abroad; her nephew Fraser Mitchell (Sonja) in Calgary; her nephew Kirk Mitchell (Kathy) in White Rock, BC; her niece Tanny Fitzpatrick (Thomas) in Okotoks, AB; and her four great-nephews, Chad, Craig, Nolan and Scott and one great-niece Kylie. Doris was born in Gilbert Plains, MB on June 27, 1917. She was raised and educated in Gilbert Plains and at the University of Manitoba. She enjoyed a long and distinguished career in education teaching grades 1 to 9 in a rural Manitoba school, and teaching in Flin Flon before serving in the Winnipeg School Division as teacher, resource specialist, and school psychologist and in administration as Program Coordinator serving exceptional children. She spent one year on a teaching exchange in Los Angeles, CA. Throughout her adult life, Doris was member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in Winnipeg for more than forty years, serving as chapter president and provincial president of the society. She was a charter member of the Manitoba Psychological Association and the Council of Exceptional Children. She was a long time member of All Saints Anglican Church in Winnipeg. Her interests included the welfare of people, especially children; many sports but curling in particular; travel to all of the continents; bridge and actively supporting the visual and performing arts. She was a member of the Wildwood Club for many years where she enjoyed curling, golf and duplicate bridge. Following retirement, Doris devoted her time to family and friends, travel, volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, United Nations Association and the Misericordia General Hospital Auxiliary where she served as President for ten years. The family would like to thank the patient care staff in the Cancer Care Centre, in the Emergency Department, on the 7th floor Surgical Unit, the 6th floor Medical Unit and the 8th floor Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion provided to Doris throughout her cancer care treatments and during her recent hospitalization (May to July 2004). We would like particularly to thank Theresa and Ade, the private duty care attendants who assisted greatly in providing a quality of life for Doris in the final weeks. At her request, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join members of the family in a funeral service to be held at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel at 669 Broadway in Winnipeg on Tuesday, July 27. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested that charitable donations be made to one of the following organizations: All Saints Anglican Church, the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba or St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation.

LES ARTHUR McFEE Accidentally, on July 18, 2004 Les passed away near Sioux Lookout, ON. Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda; daughter Savannah; his dad and mom, Art and Audrey; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rhoda and John Cogswell. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Les moved to Sioux Lookout in 1987. Les owned and operated McFee's Tavern in Sioux Lookout. Les loved his community and his many friends and family. He was always lending a hand to those in need and frequently supported those within his community. Les married Linda in February, 2004. His pride and joy was his daughter Savannah. Les was an avid sportsman who loved golf, hockey and hunting. His smile and sense of humour will be missed by all those who knew him. Les was known for his wiggle on the putting green and his self proclaimed hardest slap shot in Sioux Lookout. He's made frequent trips to Winnipeg to visit family and friends, and his dogs Stormy and Thunder filled many hours of Les' time. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donation in Les' memory can be made to the Les McFee Memorial, in care of the Northern Lights Credit Union, Sioux Lookout, ON. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Sioux Lookout Hospital, and to friends and family for their support in this difficult time.
