ANTHONY FEHR
July 20, 2004
ANTHONY (TONY) FEHR It is with great sorrow we announce the unexpected passing of our dear dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and brother. Dad died peacefully at his home in Winnipeg on July 15, 2004. He was 71 years old. Dad was predeceased by his wife Beatrice; parents, Anna and Jacob Fehr; sisters, Susie, Kay, and Helen; and brothers, George, Ben, Henry and Abe. Left to mourn are his children, Sandra Clark, Louise Charette, Tracy Fehr (Bill Griffin), Audrey Fehr, Kimberly van Raalte (Mike), and Patricia Recksiedler (Ed). Grandpa will also be missed by Kisori and Bala, Leah and Julia, Jenna, Jason, Amanda (Julianne and Jeremy), Andrew, Ashley and Cheyenne, and Selena, Paige, and Timothy. Dad also leaves behind sisters, Bertha, Eva, Elma, Agnes, Gertie and Mary; and brothers, Bill, Dave, Neil and John. Dad joined the navy as a young man, and loved the experience. He got to see so many parts of the world; places he never would have travelled to as a country boy from southern Manitoba. He held many jobs over the years, but spent much of his working life as a pipefitter. For many years he operated a business as a contractor, building gas stations. When he retired, Dad moved back to the country, near Grand Marais. There he was happiest. He created and tended several beautiful large gardens, and provided his family with organic produce. He coaxed finches and hummingbirds to consider his space, theirs. This year Dad made the difficult decision to move back to the city because of failing health. Dad was in some ways the original "Mr. Mom". In 1966, after his wife died, he chose to raise his six children by himself. It was a decision almost unheard of in those days. He learned to cook, wash clothes, and shop for a houseful of girls. One of the most treasured memories we have of those days is listening to Dad play his guitar and sing to us kids. Dad's sister Bertha Janzen helped him cope in the early years. She remained his closest friend. Dad, when we hear the chattering of birds or see the flash of a hummingbird's wing, your dear soul will be with us again. A celebration of Tony Fehr's life will be held Friday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 603 Wellington Cres. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Manitoba Division, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1S6, or to a nature charity of one's choice which would reflect Dad's deep love of God's world. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220
