Anne leaves us a legacy of humour, forgiveness and a gentle loving acceptance of what life had to offer. She faced each obstacle in her way with a stubbornness and determination that we will all remember, and managed to win most of her battles. All who knew her loved and admired her for this trait, even though at times it was exasperating. There will be a celebration of Anne's life at her daughter's home, 207-10 Inkster Garden Dr. for family and close friends on Sunday, July 4 from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. It will be a come and go gathering. Mom: You gave all that you could to remain with us this long. You were my teacher, my closest friend and my confidante, my Angel here on earth. I hope that you know how much you were loved by us all. You are now a real Angel, and may God keep you safe until we meet again. You will always be in my heart. DOREEN HODGES
July 03, 2004
DOREEN CECILE HODGES (WAKEHAM) After a five year struggle with Alzheimer's, with her family at her side, Mom freed herself June 30, 2004 to join her beloved Vernon. Mom was born in 1920 in London, England, "within the sound of Bow Bells." She came to Canada with her parents at an early age, and the family quickly settled in Winnipeg. After an incident involving a baseball, a bat, and a black eye, she met and fell in love with Vernon. They wed in 1944 and built their dream house on Royal Avenue in West Kildonan. To make the family complete, children, Gregory (Marianne) and Douglas (Cindy) came along shortly thereafter. Mom worked for a number of years at various companies in the insurance business. She and Dad instilled in their children a love of the outdoors thru many camping trips all over Canada; a love which lasts to this day and is being passed on. Mom took great joy in her grandkids, Sarah and Jackie, Matthew, Michael and young Adam. Even in the later years, you could see her light up when the kids were around. Mom cherished her many dear friends and family. Special thanks must go out to Mom's friend Sadie Peterson for her devotion, love and help to Mom. Also to the caring staff of Maples Personal Care Home, Ward 2E. We don't know what we would have done without you. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will be held. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society. Say hello to Dad for us Mom, and set out some treats for the Oreo Dog. We love you, Your Family. A life well lived. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
