NICK J. ZURBYK Nick J. Zurbyk of Elphinstone, MB passed away at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home on Friday, April 9, 2004, at the age of 87 years. Nick is survived by his son Rudy (Dianna) Zurbyk of Elphinstone; grandchildren, Janice (Darwin) Somerville of Hartney, MB, Brent Zurbyk (Keri Pfrimmer) of Shoal Lake, MB, Lisa Zurbyk (David Buchanan) of Elphinstone; great-grandchildren, Jaydene Somerville and Kyle Buchanan; brother Tony Zurbyk of Erickson; sisters, Kay Koltusky of Erickson, MB and Carrie Woytowich of Winnipeg. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elphinstone, with interment following in the parish cemetery. Prayers will be said from the church Wednesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m., Fr. Michael Tkachuk will officiate. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home. ILEEN EDNA BIGLOW (nee HICKS) Ileen Edna Biglow (nee Hicks) died at Poseidon Care Centre on December 1, 2003 at the age of 93. Predeceased by her husband Clifford Wesley Biglow; sisters, Nelda, Fern, Wilma and Ivy. She is survived by her son Barry A. Biglow as well as sister Elizabeth McComb of Hebron, Illinois, Patricia Hazelton-Taylor of Ottawa and brother Jack Hicks of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ileen taught in a one room school house in northern Manitoba before marrying and moving to Shoal Lake, MB. After moving to the Winnipeg area in the late 1930's, she taught as a substitute teacher during the Second World War and later taught full time elementary school in West Kildonan and the City of Winnipeg. Born in Fort Rouge on July 18, 1910, she was active for a number years in Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. She had an artistic nature doing needlework and sewing. WILLIAM "BILL" BLUM March 1, 1939 - November 28, 2003 Peacefully, surrounded by his family, it is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Bill Blum on Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Verna. Bill leaves to mourn his loving wife Laurette; sons, Chris (Shawn), Andy (Kalen); and stepchildren, Darlene (Ernie) Nolin, Kenny Lane, Carol (Jack) Sanders, Darren (Sherry) Lane; grandchildren, Kevin (Christine), Samantha, Chelsea, Lee, Kristen, Allan, Justin and baby Teeah; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Jordan. He is also survived by his brother Tom of Portage, Wisconsin; sisters, Mary (Larry) Walker of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Beverley (Bob) Doyle of Belleville, Wisconsin, Donna (Harvey) Meyer of Sauk City, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin and raised in Sauk City. In his youth he was very athletic and participated in various high school sports. He graduated from Sauk City high school in the class of 57, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1966, Bill received an honourable discharge from military services. His love of the great outdoors brought him north to Canada, where he guided in remote fly-in destinations in north-western Ontario. In 1975, Bill met the love of his life, Laurette, whom he married in 1976. Bill and Laurette purchased a fishing resort in Nestor Falls, ON, where they spent the next 17 years. After retiring from the tourism industry, Bill, Laurette and family moved to Winnipeg. A few years later, Bill became employed by Keystone Ford where he remained until his retirement. Bill will always be remembered for his good humour, practical jokes, and love of family and children. His big heart and love of life will always be remembered. You will be missed. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) with interment and reception to follow. Pallbearers are Lee Nolin, Kevin Lind, Glen Becker, Eddy Degagne, Dustin Chemerika and Bob Doyle. JOHN WILLIAM BRADLEY On Saturday, November 29, 2003 at the Deer Lodge Centre, John William Bradley passed away at the age of 80 years. John is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty); son Thomas and his wife Jo of Winlaw, BC; stepson Ken Schwabe; stepdaughter Barbara Juskow; two grandsons, Lawson and Nolan and one great-granddaughter. John was employed with the Canadian Grain Commission for 35 years. He served with the Royal Canadian Airforce in the Second World War and was a POW in Germany. John enjoyed his cottage and fishing in Kenora. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff, and caregivers at Deer Lodge Centre for all of your care. AUGUST CARLSON January 23, 1918 - December 1, 2003 It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of August Carlson, aged 85 years at the Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg. He was residing at the St. Adolphe Personal Care Home. August was born just north of Tyndall, MB on the family farm. August was predeceased by his parents, John and Regina Carlson; and siblings, Charlie, Alfred, Jerry, Anna; and infant sisters, Hilda and Tilda. He leaves to mourn one brother Albert of Selkirk; two sisters, Martha Bjornson of Vancouver and Julia Magnusson of Selkirk; as well as many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of August's life will be held on Thursday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m. from Russell Funeral Home, Beausejour, MB with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will be in the spring. The family would like to thank all of the people who have touched August's life and to the care givers for their care and compassion, it will not be forgotten.
