Jessie Galaugher

July 31, 2003

JESSIE ELIZABETH GALAUGHER (nee CRERAR) July 2, 1914 - July 26, 2003 With heavy hearts we grieve the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Jessie Galaugher, in the early morning of July 26, 2003. Jessie (Jaye), born in Goven, SK in 1914, delighted in telling stories of her childhood of growing up in Clandeboye where her parents raised Clydesdale horses, of winters spent around the fireplace with her father reading Dickens, of Christmas mornings with her siblings, of snowshoeing all night with friends to have breakfast at her uncle's cabin, of schoolgirl mischief and teenage romance. She also shared with friends and family stories of her trying but rewarding years raising her children on Radford Street while working as a head nurse of the ICU at Misericordia General Hospital, from which she both graduated in her early twenties and retired in 1979. She also loved to tell of her many summer adventures that came of driving her way to British Columbia for family visits, visits to Matlock, camping in the Whiteshell, and of her winter escapades with friends to the more exotic Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, and Hawaii. Whether it was during the annual summer visits from her son Peter, the frequent outings with her daughter Lynne, the Sunday dinners at her son Brent's, or the regular Crerar Clan reunions, Jessie enjoyed the company of her family and took great pride in being its wise and seasoned matriarch. Her fascination with history and politics, her love of literature, appreciation of nature, and interest in sports and current events combined with the richness of her personal experience and her relentless sense of humour made her a captivating conversationalist and an inspiring example of courage and of the fullness of life. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Peter (1928) and her mother Clara (1969); her husband Bud (1970); her brother Stewart (1978); sister Jean (1994); and brother-in-law Bert Hall (2002) and also her cousins, Wilda, Harvey and his wife Mabel, Bill and his wife Alice and Sheila and Keith. Through her spirited and colourful stories, Jessie kept the memory of these generations alive, and will, in turn, be lovingly remembered by those who survive her: her children, Lynne (Greg), Peter (Mary) and Brent (June); grandchildren Jodie, Lindsey, Shawn, Heather and Glen; Jolen, Tara and Bryan; and great-grandchildren, Kevin, Alyssa, Kirsten and Courtney; and by her special nieces, nephews and cousins, Dave, Joan and Sue; Mary Jordan; Linda, Tom, John and Cheryl; Jake, Karen and Randy; Gail and James, and also by Tommy in Victoria and Linda in Saskatoon. While her keen intelligence, sharp wit, broad-minded tolerance, light-hearted optimism, unswerving support, and remarkable strength and independence will be sadly missed, our heavy hearts will be lifted by the sweetness of her memory. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 31 at 1:00 p.m. in Neil Bardal Inc, entrance on Aubrey Street, with interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949 - 2200
