Mabel Taylor

MABEL TAYLOR Peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2002, Mabel Taylor passed away at Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 97 years. Mabel was predeceased by her husband Norval in 1991. Left to cherish her memory are son James and wife Marlene of Winnipeg and their children, Shauna (David Weise) and Gary of Vancouver; son Douglas and wife Audrey and their children, Kelly (Sherry), Tracy and Morgan of Sacramento, CA. Special thanks to all the superb staff at Golden West whose love and tender care made a home for our mother for ten years. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 22 at Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Rd. (corner of Ness and School Road). JEAN KERR

JEAN STEWART KERR Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday June 16, 2000 at the Lions Manor Personal Care Centre at the age of 91 years. Jean was predeceased by her first husband Frederick Richard Rodway, second husband Stewart Kerr, her father and mother, John and Francis Palmer, two brothers and older sister, John, Jim, and Margaret. Mom will be sadly and lovingly missed by son Frederick (Veronica) Rodway of Vancouver; daughter Georgina Green (Robert) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Robert (Kimberly), Catherine (Larry) and Debbie (Eric) all of Winnipeg, Tammy (Doug) of Victoria Island, B.C and Linda, Alice and Ginny and 12 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. Mother was born in Tacoma Washington in 1909 and she came to Canada at a young age. She was a devoted and loving mother and was a life long member of the Royal Purple. A special thanks to Kerron, Marie, Brenda, Maureen and all the staff on the third floor of P.P.C. Lions Manor. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. from Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Rev. Fraser Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire donations may be made to Lion's Manor Building Fund, 320 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg or to a charity of your choice. JOHN WIEBE Peacefully on November 17, 2002 at Donwood Manor, John Wiebe, beloved husband of Alma of Winnipeg, passed away at the age of 74 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marlene and Glenda (James); one son Lawrence; son-in-law Greg Gauthier; three grandchildren, five brothers, Jack, Henry, Peter, Walter and Werner; two sisters, Elsie and Johanna and their families. He was predeceased by daughter Wanda and brother George. Special thanks to the staff of Concordia, Riverview, Misericordia and Donwood for their excellent care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. ZOFIA WROBLEWSKI Zofia Wroblewski, aged 79 years, passed away in hospital on November 16, 2002. Zofia was born on February 19, 1923 in Poland. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1950 with her husband and children. She is survived by her two sons, Fr. Jozef of Wainwright, AB and Ted (Susan) of Lorette, MB. Her husband Jozef predeceased her in February, 1998. Many thanks to Dr. S. Kowalski and staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and support. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 20 at 10:30 a.m. with viewing between 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with Fr. Jozef Wroblewski officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice. DOUGLAS KERR

DOUGLAS L. KERR, C.D. B.A., M.D., C.M., F.R.C.P., F.A.A.P. Peacefully on March 2, 2002 at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, after an illness, at the age of 83. Surviving him is his much beloved wife Emilie L. Kerr, formerly of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. They had been married for 54 years. Also surviving him is his son Hans W. Kerr and his wife Arlene; his grandchildren, Heather Kerr (and Jason), Katherine Cherepak (and husband and son Vince and Jarrett), Sandra Kerr (and Blue Jay); and Robert Kerr. He was predeceased by his father the Rev. Dr. F. W. Kerr, a former minister of Knox United Church (Winnipeg, MB); and of St. Andrew's Church, (Westmount, PQ); by his mother Mary E. Kerr and sister Dr. Elizabeth Ann McDougall of Westmount; and by his brother Dr. Donald G. G. Kerr of London, ON Dr. Kerr graduated in medicine from McGill University in Montreal during the Second World War and after graduation enlisted in the army, serving for four and a half years. This included service overseas in Newfoundland, England, Holland, and Germany. Following this active service he was a member of the Militia for several years attached as a Medical Officer to the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, retiring with the rank of Major. Dr. Kerr practiced pediatrics in Winnipeg for 47 years. He was a past president of the medical staff of Winnipeg Children's Hospital, and served a term as Head of Pediatrics at Victoria Hospital. He was an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba; was a member of the first Perinatal Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba; and served a term on the Regional Advisory Committee of the Royal College of the Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was a long time elder of Knox United Church. For many years Dr. Kerr took a special interest in the health of Aboriginal children. From 1968 until 1996 he travelled regularly to remote Aboriginal communities of northern Manitoba to conduct Pediatric Clinics in the local nursing stations. In 1996 he received the Leighton Young Distinguished Pediatrician Award from the Department of Child Health of the University of Manitoba. Dr. and Mrs. Kerr enjoyed their cottage at Hillside beach on Lake Winnipeg and the time with family and friends there. They were also fortunate in being able to travel extensively, over the years, in Europe, the Middle East, North and East Africa, Northeast and Southeast Asia, North America and South America. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on March 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox United church (Winnipeg) with the Rev. Bruce Roberts officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital Research Foundation; the DuVal Foundation of Knox Church; or the charity of your choice. They would be appreciated. MORRIS ARTHUR ROY ZASTRE On Monday, November 18, 2002, at the Misericordia Hospital, Roy Zastre, beloved husband of Alice passed away at the age of 81 years. Besides his wife Alice of 56 years, Roy leaves to cherish his memory his son Erroll and wife Judith and their children, Matthew and Ruth. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Victoria and Tom; sister Lucille; and brothers, Paul and Lou. Roy served overseas for six years in the Canadian Army during the Second World War.
