BARRY MARCHESCHUK December 24, 1955 - October 5, 2002 It is with deep sadness that the family of Barry Marcheschuk announce his very sudden passing on October 5, 2002 while playing hockey, a game Barry loved since childhood. Barry's life was taken away from us all to play the game at a "Higher Level". Barry was born in Winnipeg on December 24, 1955; he was 46 years of age. Lovingly and always remembered by his wife of 19 years, Kathy; and his two wonderful children, Hayley and Nathan. Also survived by his mother Rita; brothers, Garry (Brenda), Butch (Louise), Rick; and sister Barb (Tim); nephew Trevor; and niece Nicole. Also by mother-in-law Olga Harrisko and many other relatives and friends. Barry was predeceased by his father John and his sister Beverly. Barry was raised in the North End attending Strathcona, Aberdeen and St. John's High School. He was an all-round top-notch athlete who participated in many various sports, with hockey being his favourite. Barry played on many teams in Manitoba, which included Flin Flon Bombers and Thompson King Miners, moving away to play in Cranbrook, BC and eventually played at a professional level in Toledo and Virginia. Barry returned to Winnipeg in 1980 and started his career with Weston Bakery, where he made numerous friends and was highly respected. Barry continued playing hockey locally in Winnipeg with the North End Flyers and winning the Hardy Cup in 1982-83. He also played men's senior hockey with St. Boniface Mohawks and various adult leagues. He also was a part of the Classic's Men's Slo-pitch League which took him on adventures across North America. Barry became an avid golfer and enjoyed these times with special friends. Barry was active in his community helping coach his son's hockey team contributing much of his knowledge and support. He was looking forward to being a part of Nathan's 12A1 team this season, and we know he'll be there with Nathan and his teammates always. Barry also was there to support and encourage his daughter Hayley in all her sporting events and was very proud to see her compete in this year's Indigenous Games. Barry's children were his pride and joy and they follow in his footsteps excelling in all they do. Barry loved to party with his family and friends. There were many week-end BBQs with steaks cooked to perfection; he was a great "BBQ'er". His heartfelt laughter and entertaining was enjoyed by all. He and his family also enjoyed many vacations and these memories are held dear to our hearts. "All the wonderful memories we have to hold on to are so dear and wonderful.
