Born in Winnipeg, Kay was the second child of Bill and Mary-Anne Kennedy and was raised in the Norwood area. She attended Prince Edward School and graduated from Norwood Collegiate. During the war, Kay worked in a factory in Windsor, Ontario, with the three women, Edie, Pat and Terri, who were to become her lifelong best friends. Kay met her husband-to-be, Wally Kerr, at the Knights of Columbus Hut in Winnipeg and they were married in 1946. Wally predeceased her in 1983. Kay is survived by three children and their families, Marianne, husband Bruce, and daughters, Angie and Katelyn; Barry, partner Elaine, and Barry's children Justin and Corrine; Debbie, husband Alfie, and Debbie's son Brian; her younger sister Wilma, husband Jack, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her older sister Phyllis. Kay loved to dance, and she and Wally spent many happy years attending square-dancing events across Canada and in the northern U.S. Kay also loved to party and socialize with people. She made many friends over the years, and until the onset of Alzheimer's, made an effort to keep in touch with all of them. Kay was blessed to have spent the last 13 years of her life in the care of the exceptional staff at the Bethania Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg. The family extends their deep appreciation and thanks to all of the staff members of the North Wing of Bethania who cared for Kay over the years.
