Archie Mardell
January 26, 2002
ARCHIE MARDELL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Archie Mardell, on November 28, 2001, with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 71 years. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Gertrude; and one infant brother Ian. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Lil; his children, Diana (Dan) of Inuvik, NWT, Jim (Laura-Jean) of Thompson, MB, Beverley (Troy) of Sylvan Lake, AB; his grandchildren, Jamie, Josh, Alyssa, Amanda; his brothers, Adrian (Darlene) of Crows Nest Pass, AB, Hubert of Grand Forks, BC, Allen (Irene) of Flin Flon, MB; and his sister Evadnee (Alvin) of Birmingham, AL; as well as numerous other relatives. Archie also leaves numerous friends in the Thompson, Flin Flon and Shipman areas. Educated in Shipman, at a young age, Archie boarded a train to Ontario and began his place in the work force. From Ontario, Archie mined in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon and the North West Territories, and later bought land and farmed in the Shipman area, harvesting his final crop shortly before his passing. Archie made his home in Flin Flon for the past 26 years. Archie will always be remembered as a kind, considerate, generous man with a great sense of humour. Archie loved to laugh, visit with friends, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and loved nothing more than to tease his grandchildren. Archie was the soul of generosity and he has left us with many happy memories. His passing has left a hole in our hearts; we will miss him greatly and love him forever. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Flin Flon, MB, with Rev. Ed Pullam officiating. Urn bearer was Archie's best friend Ross Svenkeson. Honorary pallbearers were Willy Klapenbach, Albert Prince, Richard Mardell, Andy Wasyleiw, Ron Dernogas, Paul Abrahamson, Jack Bouteiller, Dale Smith, Dave Wasyleiw, Walter Long, Otto Bindle and Emil Sklar. Ushers were Reg Bouteiller and Fred Bouteiller. Register attendant was Kaitlyn Wally. The family would like to thank the medical staff who cared for Archie at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. As well as Dr. Amin, the Palliative Care Unit and a special thank you to Helen Wally of the Flin Flon General Hospital whose gentle kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you to Rev. Pullam, Dana Dadson and the pallbearers. And also thank you to the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for the wonderful lunch. The family is sincerely grateful to all the relatives, friends, and neighbours for gifts of food, flowers, cards and donations in Archie's memory. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Flin Flon General Hospital to the attention of Darby Johanson. Dadson Funeral Home of Flin Flon, Manitoba, was entrusted with the arrangements. (204) 687-5821.
Christine Marie

CHRISTINE V. STE MARIE Surrounded by the love of her family, Christine passed peacefully on January 24, 2002. Christine was born in Edmonton, AB, on February 26, 1953. After a few moves, the family settled in Winnipeg in 1965. Christine and Stan Werle married in 1989. After living in Regina, SK, they moved to Brandon in 1994 with their two children. In 1995, Christine was treated for breast cancer. As a testament to her love for life and other people, Christine became actively involved in the Canadian Cancer Society's Reach for Recovery program. As a fighter from the beginning, Christine joined the breast cancer survivor Dragon Boat teams in Brandon and Winnipeg. She thrived as part of these rowing teams, and the many special friends she made gave her strength. Christine was a loving mother and wife. She had strong family values and always put the needs of her family ahead of her own. She cared deeply for all of the people in her life, and in the hearts of all, this will leave behind a warmth that only Christine could impart. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 12 years, Stan; and her young daughters, Sarah and Chloe. Very special memories will be cherished by her parents, Fred and Irma Ste Marie; her siblings and their families, Don and Pauline, Reg and Joanne, Audrey and Dave Roberts, Joan Ste-Marie and Catherine Chatterley; Stan's mother Margaret; Stan's siblings and their families, Tom and Maxine, Jim and Elsie, Roy and Nancy, Hazel Werle and Jeff Morin. ROBERT W. McKNIGHT Peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2002, after a lengthy hospital stay, Robert William McKnight (Bob to his friends and family) moved on. The best dad that anyone could ask for is survived by his three children, David, Richard, and Susan; and his loving sister Gwen While. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Lillian in 1999. He was born in Glenboro, MB, in 1925 and moved to Winnipeg in 1939. Bob enlisted in the Royal Canadian Merchant Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. Mary Mcquaid
January 26, 2002
MARY W. McQUAID (Willi Pineau) July 29, 1939 - January 24, 2002 Peacefully, after a courageous battle, this warm, compassionate mother, grandmother and friend of the community passed on her way. Known by most as "Willi", this respected member of the Manitoba nursing community tirelessly assisted the sick and the needy in Winnipeg's North End and throughout the city. Although she will be sadly missed by her sons, her daughters, her grandchildren and her countless friends, Willi's acceptance of her calling made her transition less painful. Her striking white hair and big blue eyes, her incredible smile and unique sense of humour, and even a bowl of Willi's chili, all combined to make her a unique and wonderful person. The family will gather privately to remember her. An announcement will be made in early March for a public celebration of her life to be held later that month. Donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association.
