Sandra Lynne Moffat

It is with deepest sorrow the family announces the passing of Sandra Lynne Moffat at the age of 52 years. Surrounded by her loving family, Sandy passed away on Sunday, March 07, 2004 at the Portage District General Hospital following a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by her mother Rose, Sandy leaves to cherish her memory her father Elmer Moffat of Portage la Prairie; children Kristin (Randy) Zasitko of Winnipeg, Brian (Dawn) Kowerchuk of Portage and Darren Kowerchuk of Portage; grandchildren Justin Zasitko, Trinidee and Hudson Kowerchuk and soon-to-be baby granddaughter Zasitko; Auntie Anne (Frank) Larsh of Kelowna BC; Uncle Ray Moffat of Portage; cousins and many, many special friends. Born on St. Patrick’s Day 1951, Sandy soon became known as “Patty” to her closest family members, an endearing name she retained throughout her life. Sandy was employed at the Portage Daily Graphic for the past 4 years where she very much enjoyed her work and was thankful for the many wonderful friendships made. A soft spoken and caring person, Sandy always found the time to offer a good hearted hello to all she encountered. Regardless of her own situation, she was far more concerned with how others were doing, ensuring you passed along a greeting on her behalf. Sandy always placed her hardships and problems aside, putting her family’s needs and wants ahead of her own. Whether the pleasure of a short visit with her beloved children or opportunity to further “spoil” her cherished grandchildren, Sandy perceived a positive from the smallest things in life, enjoying experiences to the ultimate. It is her kind smile, gentle demeanor and love for all living things (as the stray cats of Portage well know…) that set Sandy apart and will forever remain in our hearts and souls. Dear Lord, Put your arms around her, Hold her in your tender care. Make up to her for all she suffered, And all she had to bear. She went through so much in silence, Her spirits did not bend. She faced her pain with courage, Until the very end. It broke our hearts to lose her, But she didn’t go alone, For part of us went with her, The day God called her home. Amen. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Portage District General Hospital Medical Ward. The comfort and compassion you provided to Sandy and to us all cannot be adequately expressed in words. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening, March 9, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Road S. In keeping with Sandra’s wishes there will be a private funeral. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8 or to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Sandy by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements.
