The death of James Douglas Hickman, age 75, husband of the late Joan (Downs) Hickman of Wickham, NB, occurred at the Great Oaks Special Care Home, on April 7, 2009. He was born on June 29, 1933, in Saint John, NB, the son of the late Harold and Nettie (Craft) Hickman.
James was born in Saint John, June 29th, 1933, and grew up in the "North End". He was the youngest son, number 8 in a family of 11 children. Growing up in the home of a plumber, he was taught the trade at a young age and worked with his father and brothers for many years.
In 1955, he married his love, Joan, and they started their family of 3 boys. After the tragic loss of their oldest son, they needed to make a change so they moved to Wickham, buying a farm in the Fall of 1967. Ten years later it was expanded to the Dairy Farm. He loved the land, the animals, and the socializing farming brought. There were always meetings that "needed" to be attended!
He always enjoyed a good political debate, and was very involved in the Conservative Party for many years.
James was a real "people person", and loved to laugh. Even after a stroke changed life as he knew it at the age of 64, he teased and tormented anyone who came in his path...Joan....his sons...the daughter-in laws ...the grandchildren...his sisters ....even his care givers!!!
We are going to miss his great sense of humour, and mischievous grin.
