Calder, Hugh Alexander
1923 - 2001
Hugh “Hughie” Calder passed away peacefully and surrounded by love and family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on January 14th, 2001. Born April 26th, 1923 he was the son of the late Janet and John Calder of Springhill, Nova Scotia.
Enlisted in the Military July 3rd, 1942 and served in Canada, Britain, Northwest Europe, Continental Europe and Cyprus. Retired as a Sergeant on April 26th, 1973 with an honourable discharge. Decorated throughout his years of service with the 1935-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and War Medal 1939-45, United Nations Medal, Special Service Medal, Peace Keeping Medal and Canadian Forces with Clasp. Hughie resided at the Veterans Hospital in Fredericton since August 2000 and was a member of Branch 93 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Hughie is survived by his wife, Jean (Doncaster) Calder ; four sons Hugh “Chuck” (Sandra) of Kingston, Nova Scotia, Lowell “Hubby” (Kathy) of Edmonton, Alberta, David (Arlene) of Bruderheim, Alberta, Brian (Chris) of Lumsden, Saskatchewan,, and one daughter Heather Loslo (Garth) of Edmonton, Alberta; eleven grandchildren, Lisa Calder, Susan Calder, Lesley Calder (Scott Campion), Jennifer O’Toole (Mike), Jared Calder, Aynsley Calder, Shawn Calder, Lindsey Loslo, Scott Calder, Jessica Loslo and Alexander Loslo; two great grandchildren Alexandra and Brett Campion and daughter in law Sharon Calder. Hughie is sadly predeceased by his grandson Bradley Calder.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 18th, at 3:00 PM at Oromocto United Church, with Rev. Margie Patterson officiating. Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93 will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Association or Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
Morton Archie Carr
January 25, 2001
Morton Archie Carr of Ritchie Road formley of French Lake, NB passed away at home on Thursday January 25th, at the age of 56. Born in Fredericton he was the son of Clara J. (Cogswell) Carr and the late Archie Carr.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Kelsie (Gahan) Carr.
He had been employed with the Department of Education District 17 for 26 years and for the past several years he was with the School Book Branch, Fredericton. Morton enjoyed people and loved to dance, joke, hunt, fish, canoe, sail and travel.
He is survived by his wife Diana (Gallagher/Aitken) Carr, daughter Anna Lee (Scott) Murphy and son Scott (Jennifer) Carr, both of French Lake, step-daughter Cyndi (Jason) Sullivan, Fredericton, step-son Gregory (Melanie)Aitken, Ottawa,grandchildren; Amanda, Jenna, Haley, Chandler and Fletcher; mother in law Edith Gallagher (Burton Springer),Fredericton, special grandmother Hazel Hawkins, Pine Grove, Fredericton, aunt Mabel Smith, Iroquois Falls, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will take place at Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 3:00 PM with Rev. Shant Manuel officiating, Rev. Dale Greer as soloist and Rev. Robert Barry conducting the committal. Honorary pallbears will be Marlene Wheaton, Bill and Jean Whitlock, Weston and Sandra Carr, Wilmot and Gail Smith, Clarence and Eleanor Willman, Jerry and Pam Grant and Ralph and Laverne LeBlanc.

Arthur Cogswell
August 2, 1920 - January 24, 2001
The death of Arthur C. Cogswell of Oromocto occured January 24, 2001 at the Victoria Health Centre DVA unit Fredericton. Born in Oromocto, August 2, 1920 son of Margaret (Flowers) Cogswell and the late Arthur Cogswell.
Arthur was a vetran of WW11, serving with the Allied Forces overseas from 1939 to 1945 with the Carleton York Regiment. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93.
Survived by his wife Alma, his mother Margaret Cogswell. Six sons Eugene, David, Bryan, Dean, Darren and Paul. Five daughters Mavis, Barbara, Karol, Anna and Janet, Three brothers Thomas (Mary), Delbert (Ruth), and Alva. Two Sisters Helen Shepherd and Elizabeth Beck, 27 Grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several Nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his father and 3 brothers Murray, Frederick and Robert and two sisters Mary Curtis and Darlene Pike.
Resting at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home 108 Winnebago St. with visiting hours Thursday 7-9 and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel Saturday at 2:00 pm. Rev. Norman Woodworth officiating. Interment will be made in the Burton Cemetery at a later date.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will hold Legion Tribute at the Funeral Home Friday at 7:00 pm.
Don Hayward
The death of Don Hayward, formerly of Campbelton, NB, occurred on Thursday, March 22, 2001 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB.
Don is survived by his brother, Doug (Vivian) Hayward of Rexton, NB; daughter Bonnie (Terry) Belliveau of Ontario; grandson, Tim Belliveau of Ontario; close friends and extended family; Angella Carberry of Geary, NB; Maria Carberry of Fredericton, NB; Wayne Carberry of Lawrencetown, NS; Michael (Donna) Carberry of Burton, NB; Edward (Jackie) Carberry of Oromocto, NB; Marguerite (Donnie) Wilkins and Madonna (Angelo) Delguercio both of London, ON.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 25th, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association would be appreciated.
George Home

The death of George Horne occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2001.
Born in Caithness, Scotland, son of the late John and Naomi (Ross) Horne. George was a World War 11 veteran and served in Britain, France, Scotland, Holland, and Italy.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Jack, Ian, two sisters, Christina, and Rena.
Survived by his partner, Edith Ball and step- daughter Judy and her friend Denis Anderson, three sisters; Mary Ellen, (Nellie) Clara, and Mary and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 24th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 will hold a tribute service at funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM.
The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, January 26th, at 2:00 PM from Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Hapeman officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Field of Honor in the spring.
For those who wish memorial tributes made to Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 would be appreciated by the family.

Edward Benoit Melanson
The death of Edward Melanson occurred on Thursday, April 12th, 2001 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, N.B. He was 77 years old. Born in Weymouth, Digby Co., N.S. he was the son of the late Israel and Amy (Belliveau) Melanson and husband of the late Mary (Hillman) Melanson.
After retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces, Edward worked with CFB Gagetown as a Vehicle Technician for base maintenance.
Edward is survived by two daughters: Catherine Anne Haines (Michael) of Ontario and Joan-Marie Gear (Patrick) of British Columbia; one son Ted Melanson (Mary) of Oromocto, N.B.; one brother Alphonse Melanson of Nova Scotia; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and wife.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 15th, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, N.B. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 16th, 2001 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Don Savoie celebrating. Interment will take place in the Burton Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to any charity of the donor’s choice.
Darrell L. Ward
The death of Darrell L. Ward of Oromocto, occurred at Oromocto Public Hospital on January 18th, 2001. Born in Blissfield, NB, he was the son of the late Dainie (Mountain) and Henry Ward and husband of the late Bernet M. (Hayes) Ward. Darrell was retired from the Town of Oromocto and had also worked for many years for Diamond Construction Ltd. Survived by his daughter Ellen Ward of Oromocto and son Greg Ward (Laura) of Fall River, NS, two brothers; Perley Ward (Doris) of Ludlow, NB and Richard Ward (Sabra) of Fredericton, NB, two sisters, Christina MacRae (Roy) of Blackville, NB and Diane Brennan (Ed) of Blissfield, NB, two grandchildren Chelsea and Dlyan Ward, several nieces , nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his wife Bernet M. (Hayes) Ward and infant son Micheal and infant daughter Mary Ann, two sisters; Joyce Parker, and Thelma Christie and one brother Allison Ward. Visitation will take place at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home. 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto on Saturday, January 20th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Sunday, January 21st, at 3:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Don Savoie officiating. Interment will take place in The Hermitage Cemetery at a later date. Marie Jeanne Carnell

The death of Marie Jeanne Carnell occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, July 27th, 2001. Born in Blind River, Ontario, daughter of Jeanne (Lemieux) and the late Edmond Ethier, wife of Wayne Carnell.
Marie was an avid Bridge player and was a member of the Fredericton Guild of Fabric Artists and the Embroiderers Guild of Fredericton, her generosity and giving spirit were appreciated by all who received her handy work and her love. She was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her father, and one brother Gilles Ethier.
Survived by; her husband Wayne Carnell, of Oromocto, her mother, Jeanne, two daughters, Dr. Michelle Marie Carnell (Matthew Crocker) of Saarbrueken, Germany and Monique Marie Carnell (Eugene Derényi) of Ottawa, Ontario, and her siblings; Jean-Paul Ethier (Huguette) of London, Ontario, André Ethier, of Blind River, Ontario, Alice Luke (Martin) of Saint Rose du Lac, Manitoba, Maurice Ethier (Susan) of Blind River, Ontario, her mother-in-law Alma Carnell of Oromocto, NB, special friend Patricia Miles, of Fredericton, and extended family.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, August 2nd, from 6-9 PM at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 3rd, at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Rev. Don Savoie as celebrant. The family requests that in lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
