Mind Flight
I walk to the edge in a foggy squall
The surf gleams white below
The light beams pierce the dense
damp mist
To guide boats where they go
A bird on the wing in clean
salt spray
I'm riding the highest wave
As free as the wind to soar and drift
Soaked in a moment I'll save
For the call of gulls and the
dancing sea
And quiet island days
Long ago taught me to shed
my shoes
For a flight to sea-girt ways
– Kate Stanley, July 1988
