Mrs. Mary Irene Doucet
October 4, 1907 - March 3, 2008
Mary Irene Doucet passed away peacefully at her residence in People’s Park Tower on Monday, March 3rd, 2008.
Born in Campbelton, NB on October 4th, 1907, Irene was the daughter of the late Narcisse and Esther (Bijeau) Levesque.
We were very fortunate to have had two wonderful celebrations of her 100 years this past fall.
She will be greatly missed by her four sons, J.A. “Duke” Doucet (Dee) of Florida, J. Maurice (Ann) of Halifax, J. Raymond (Beulah) of Moncton and V. John (Judy) of Kingston, Ont.
She was very proud of her grandchildren, Kevin, Marc, Peter, Ingrid, Jason, Cathy, Jeff, Dan, Joyce and Troy and her thirteen great grandchildren.
Her sister, Amanda “Nin” Levesque, also of P.P.T., will miss her dearly.
There are numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will remember her with affection and admiration.
Irene was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, A.J. “Fred” Doucet (1986) and their only daughter, Joyce (1932).
There were three brothers and three sisters who also predeceased her, as well as her dear friend, Frank McGrath.
During her remarkable life, she was involved in numerous activities, including choir, bridge, lawn bowling, line dancing, golf and her favorite, curling.
She was a Charter Member of the Ladies Division of the Beauséjour Curling Club, a lifetime member and a former past President.
She became a member of the Catholic Women’s League 75 years ago, recently receiving the prestigious Maple Leaf Pin in recognition of her service.
However, her musical talents of singing and playing the piano/organ with such joy and enthusiasm, is what many will remember.
There were numerous masses, wedding, funerals, etc in the early years and then many fun times at the P.P.T., where her “magic” fingers brought pleasure to many celebrations.
There were many years spent with her family and Friends in Florida.
Irene may have been small in stature but was larger than life in spirit.
Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Thursday, March 6th, 2008 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm, with parish prayers at 8:30 pm. from the funeral home.
