McCoomb, Carl

Peacefully, at Country Terrace Nursing Home, Komoka, Ont., on Saturday, April 11, 2009, Carl McCoomb, of London, Ont., in his 74th year. Beloved husband of the late Rosina “Rose” McCoomb.
Much loved father of Jim and his wife, Teresa, and John McCoomb. Devoted “Granpa” of Stephanie and Breanne. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends whose lives he has touched.
A memorial service to celebrate Carl’s life will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ont., on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 3 p.m., with visitation one hour prior.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Carl are asked to consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Quigley, Milton Douglas

After a brief illness at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., on March 20, 2009, Milton Douglas Quigley, husband of Shirley Mabel (Eldridge, Storm) Quigley, of Back Bay, N.B. Born in Back Bay, N.B., on Oct. 25, 1931, he was the son of Milton and Freda (Cooke) Quigley. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Douglas (Rocky) Quigley, of St. Stephen, N.B., and Mick Quigley (Amy), of Newport Richey, Fla.; two daughters, Lori Quigley, of California and Shelley Quigley (Jerry Arsenault), of St. Stephen, N.B.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson; one sister, Darlene Robertson, of Back Bay, N.B.; several nieces and nephews.
Prior to retirement, he worked for an auto dealership in Florida. He also served in the American Army and RCAF. He was an avid sports fan. Doug was also a member of the Back Bay Church of Christ.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations of the donor’s choice (Heart and Stroke, diabetes, or church of your choice) would be appreciated.

Doyle, J. Edward

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Sunday, April 12, 2009, Jack Edward Doyle, of Queen Street, St. Stephen, N.B. Edward was born in Thornhill, Dumfries, Scotland on May 10, 1937. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Edward served with the British Royal Navy for 12 years as an electrician, leaving with the rank of Chief Electrical Artificier. Returning home, he worked in a number of different industries in the electrical field.
Edward is survived by his two sons, James Keith Edward Doyle (Sue Dawn), of St. George, N.B., and Joseph Kenneth Lyle Doyle (Melissa Amber), of Edmonton, Alta.; one brother, David; five grandchildren, Whitney Marie Davidson, Olivia Grace Davidson, Destiny Claira Doyle, Keisha Sue Doyle and Elizabeth Katrina Doyle.
By Edward’s request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home; however, friends are welcome to attend a memorial service to be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009 in the chapel of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B.
A light reception will follow in the Humphreys’ Community Room and Reception Centre.
Please check on the funeral home website or by phone for time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Ryan, Anne Bernadine

Anne Bernadine Ryan, R.N., of Fredericton, N.B., passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, N.B., on Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2009. Anne was born in Pennfield Parish, Charlotte County, N.B., and grew up in Black’s Harbour and St. Stephen, the daughter of George and Harriet Murphy, who predeceased her.
She was a retired Registered Nurse, having graduated in the class of 1953 from Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton, after leading the province in her R.N. examinations. She was an avid reader and enjoyed travelling.
Anne was married to the Hon. Patrick A.A. Ryan, Q.C., retired Justice of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal and currently the Conflict of Interest Commissioner for New Brunswick and an Officer of the Legislative Assembly.
Anne is survived by four children: Michael A.A. Ryan (Cindy), of Fredericton, N.B., Sean P.G. Ryan (Susan), Winnipeg, Man., Jamie J.K. Ryan (Paulette), Fredericton, N.B., and Peter T.S. Ryan (Karen), Miramichi, N.B.; several grandchildren: Shane and Keri Ryan, Fredericton, N.B., Meagan and Michael Ryan, Winnipeg, Man., Devin and Chase Ryan, Fredericton, N.B., and Justin and Amanda Ryan, Miramichi, N.B.; several sisters, Blanche Lee, Victoria, B.C. and her children, Eileen Groot (Tom), Penticton, B.C., and their children, Beth Haigh, Penticton, B.C., and her children, Shirley Spracklin, Sarnia, Ont., and her children, Myrna McCormack, St. Stephen, N.B., and her children, and Mary Murphy, of St. Stephen, N.B.; and brothers, Brian Murphy and his children, and Richard Murphy, of the St. Stephen area. Anne is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mardi (Marjorie T.) Cockburn, of Fredericton, N.B. (widow of Judge G. William N. Cockburn), and their children, William and Blair Cockburn, Fredericton, N.B., Blair’s children, and Beth (Émile) Savoie, of Sackville, N.B.; brother-in-law, Floyd Carr, of St. George, N.B., as well as her aunt, Eileen Sullivan, of Rexton, N.B.
She was predeceased by her parents, and one sister, Jane Carr.
The family will receive visitors at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, N.B., from 7-9 p.m., on Tuesday, March 24.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon, on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1500 Hanwell Road, Fredericton, N.B., with Fr. J.J. Dolan as celebrant.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Hermitage Cemetery.
For those who wish, donations made in memory of Anne to the Canadian Diabetes Association, CNIB or to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Langmaid, Sheila Rose

Sheila Rose (Maxwell) Langmaid died April 11, 2009 at Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., after a period of declining health. A resident of Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, for the past three months, she had previously lived her entire life in Canal, just outside St. George. Born in Canal, N.B., on March 23, 1931, Sheila was the youngest child of LeRoy and Della (Fitzsimmons) Maxwell.
Sheila is survived by her son, Wilfred Langmaid, daughter-in-law, Shelley Langmaid, and grandchildren Bethany, Jerome, and Christopher, all of Fredericton, N.B.; nephews, Patrick Kelly, of Nepean, Ont., Robert Wright, of Fenwick, Ont., and Peter Maxwell, of Caledonia, N.S.; niece, Ann Kinney, of Canal, N.B.; and several cousins. She also had a wealth of friends in the local area, many of whom were among the scores of former students who remained part of her life.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Wilfred R. (Si) Langmaid, in 1990. She was also predeceased by sisters, Beryl Kelly, Reta Bell and Eileen Wright; brothers, Lloyd Maxwell, Donald Maxwell and Clifford Maxwell; and her second husband, Jack Adams.
Sheila was a 1949 graduate of St. George Superior School, and graduated from Teachers College in Fredericton in 1950. Apart from three years at home after her son was born, she taught in Charlotte County schools until taking early retirement for medical reasons in 1979. She taught through the years at Canal School, Back Bay School, St. George Elementary School, Eastern Charlotte Regional School and Fundy High School.
A lifelong member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in St. George, Sheila was also a member of Granite Chapter No. 15 Order of the Eastern Star, the Charlotte County Retired Teachers Association, the New Brunswick Retired Teachers Association, and the Granite Town Senior Citizens Club.
Sheila is resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. Georg, e N.B., with visitation on Tuesday, April 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will take place Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 11 a.m., at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, with Rev. Mary Anne Langmaid officiating, assisted by Rev. Canon David Genge and Rev. Canon John Matheson.
Spring burial will take place in the family plot at St. George Rural Cemetery.
The Granite Chapter No. 15 O.E.S. will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospitals would be appreciated by the family. Sheila and Si had many wonderful years together at Luxor Temple AAONMS events, where Si was the captain of the Flag Unit.

Greenlaw, Angus John

Angus John Greenlaw passed away in San Francisco, Calif., on March 20, 2009. He was born the son of the late Samuel M. Greenlaw and Katherine McRaven, on Sept. 19, 1934 in Del Norte, Calif.
Angus was an avid sailor and he once owned and operated Chateau Aspia, an inn and touring barge on the Loing Canal, south of Paris, France, for several years of his life.
He is survived by his stepmother, Virginia Greenlaw, of North Head, N.B.; two sisters, Helena Greenlaw Mccullum and Susan Greenlaw, of North Head, N.B.; his three brothers, Samuel, Nathan and Joseph, all of North Head, N.B.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in California and Angus’ family has requested that donations may be made to the cancer foundation of their choice.

Calder, Chesley Maxwell

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on April 10, 2009, Chesley Maxwell Calder, of Welshpool, Campobello, N.B., son of the late Harry C. and Agnes Belle (Mitchell) Calder. Husband of the late Royis Elda Matthews.
Survived by one son, Brent Calder (Betty), of Oak Bay, N.B.; one daughter, Paula Speer (William), of Groveland, Fla.; one grandson, B.J. Speer, of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Genevieve Smith (Donald), Baileyville, Me., and Gertrude Lank, Saint John, N.B.; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral service will be held from the North Road Baptist Church, Welshpool, N.B., on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 2 p.m.
There will be no visitation by request.
Interment at North Road Cemetery, Welshpool, Campobello, N.B.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Nordstrom, Bernard (Sonny) Charles

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Saturday, April 11, 2009, Bernard (Sonny) Charles Nordstrom. He was born March 3, 1932 and was the son of the late Charles and Violet (Lobb) Nordstrom. He was the husband of Yvonne (Casey) Nordstrom, of St. Stephen, N.B.
Sonny’s passions included horse racing, baseball, hockey, hunting and spending time with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing sports and in later years, coaching minor hockey and baseball. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
Sonny was a member of the St. Peter’s Saints, winning Maritime Championships in 1963, and with this team was inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame.
After his retirement from Lake Utopia Paper, he took great pride in working around his property. He especially enjoyed decorating during the holiday seasons for the enjoyment of the community.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; his children: Charlotte (Tex) Giddens, Greg (Jackie) Nordstrom, Gwen (Bill) Borthwick, Allison (Anne) Nordstrom, Kenny Nordstrom and Andrew Nordstrom; his grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Scott Giddens, Hailey and Lindsay Nordstrom, Gregory Jackson, Cameron (Danielle), Cara, Bethany and Chrissy Nordstrom, and Colton and Sydney Nordstrom; great-grandson, Tanner Nordstrom; his brothers, Gerald (Marilyn) Nordstrom and James Nordstrom; his sisters, Winnie Hughes, Barbara (Allen) MacNeil; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Union Street, St. Stephen, N.B., at 11 a.m.
There will be no visitation by request.
Interment at Milltown Catholic Cemetery, St. Stephen, N.B.

Cook, Guilford Richard

COOK, Guilford Richard – The graveside service for the late Guildford Richard Cook, of Back Bay, N.B., who passed away March 21, 2009, will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 3 p.m., from the St. George Rural Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating.
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on March 21, 2009, Guilford Richard Cook, husband of Mrs. E. Valerie (Kinney) Cook, of Back Bay, N.B. Born at Back Bay, N.B., on Dec. 5, 1929, he was a son of the late Jesse and Pansey (Taylor) Cook.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife, Elinor, he is survived by one son, Scott (Crystal) Cook, of St. George, N.B.; one daughter, Joan (Richard) Beek, of St. George, N.B.; grandchildren, Christie Lynn Beek, Kyle Cook and Alex Cook, all of St. George, N.B.; one sister, Helena Cooke, of Back Bay, N.B.; one brother, Blois Cook, of Back Bay, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by brothers, Eldon, Donald, Kingston, Walter and infant brother, Reid, and by two sisters, Beulah Mitchell and Thelma Cook.
Prior to his retirement, Guilford worked as a carpenter throughout the province in various construction projects as well as lobster fishing and tending weir. He was an avid musician who loved to play the guitar and sing, and had a passion for country and western music. He loved going to the camp in McDougall and enjoyed being in the company of his friends. He was a great friend to all who knew him.
By Guilford’s request, there will be no visitation or service at this time.
Friends will be welcome to attend a graveside service at the St. George Rural Cemetery at a time and date to be announced.
In Guilford’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Hospital Palliative Care Unit, the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Charlotte County SPCA would be appreciated by the family.

Dorey, Ruth

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Saturday, March 21, 2009, Mrs. Ruth (Murphy) Dorey, wife of the late Thomas Norman Dorey, of Blacks Harbour, N.B. Born on March 5, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Ellen (Acker) Murphy.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and good friend, she is survived by two daughters, Evelyn (Ted) Hatt, of St. Andrews, N.B., and Deanna Morrell, of Quispamsis, N.B.; one son, George (Barbara) Dorey, of Eureka, Calif.; five grandchildren: Angela Hatt, of Edmonton, Alta., Thomas (Heather) Dorey, Selina (Chris) Athurst and Michelle McCullough, all of Saint John, N.B., and Ricky Dorey, of Eureka, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Helen (Percy) Foster and Peggy (Fred) Weirhers, of Aylsford, N.S.; her homemakers: Anna (Clyde) Thorne, of Canal, N.B., Betty Ann Doiron, of Blacks Harbour, N.B., Beth McLaughlin (John Stevens), of Pennfield, N.B.; special friends, Mayor John Craig, of St. Andrews, N.B., and Howard Justason, of Saint John, N.B.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Tom, Ruth was predeceased by grandsons, Roger Dorey, Gordon Hatt and Jaylin Fletcher; sisters, Thelma Veinott and Joyce Taylor; brothers, Stedman McKay, William, Cecil, George and infant brother, John Jr. Murphy.
Ruth loved cooking and giving gifts to everyone. She enjoyed getting out when she was able and conversing with her many friends. She was a member of Calvary Atlantic Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour and a former Sunday school teacher.
There will be no visiting at the funeral home. The service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating.
Interment at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring.
In Ruth’s memory, donations in lieu of flowers to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
