Olive Carter
1921-2008
Suddenly after a tragic accident on Friday, September 26, 2008 in her 88th year.
Beloved wife of the late Herbert (1963). Loving Mom to Janice and her husband Roly. Proud Nanny of Jillian and Arianne. Sadly missed by her brother Gerald Schofield and his wife Marion of Saint John, New Brunswick. Predeceased by her brother Donald and sister-in-law Louise. Fondly remembered by all her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at BISHOP’S FUNERAL HOME, 540 Woodstock Rd., Fredericton on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Gladys Steeves
1899-2003
Gladys Steeves, 103, of Forest Dale Home, Riverside-Albert, NB, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2003 at the home.
Gladys was born in Albert County, NB, on Dec. 8, 1899 her parents were Herbert and Eliza (Robertson) Taylor, who married in 1888 in Kansas City. Gladys was a very special lady and had many unique experiences in her long life. Her grandfather fought in the civil war after the war he became a US Marshall in Dallas, Gladys as a young child met Theodore Roosevelt in Kansas City. She also remembered meeting Frank James, Jessie James's brother, Gladys also was able to see the Haley's Comet twice. She married in 1927 to Mr. Allison Steeves who was Superintendent of Forbes Construction Company and helped in the building of the Moncton and Scoudouc airport and several highways across the province of New Brunswick. Gladys was an active member of the Salem Baptist Church, she belonged to the Order Of The Eastern Star and also was a founding member of the Albert County Hospital Auxiliary. Gladys loved all animals especially horses and dogs, she loved the farm. After the death of her husband in 1960 she resided with her family in Kansas and Maine. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is predeceased by three siblings, Clyde Taylor, Clara Swett and Dwight Taylor. Gladys was a beloved mother and grandmother who loved her family very much. She also took in several foster children over the years and gave many children a good home, that's the kind of special person Gladys was.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Dr. John Steeves and his wife Eva of Skowhegan and Kansas City and by her loving grandchildren, Linda Steeves Haith (Myron) of Kansas, Susan Steeves Fry (Mike) of Palm Desert, California and Wyoming, John Steeves (Diane) of Skowhegan, Dr. Kimberly Steeves Schlehr (Dr. Frank) of Amherst, New York, Jeremy Steeves (Christina) of Skowhegan; also 9 great grandchildren, Joshua, Jacqueline, Jane, Spencer, Julia, Madeline, Eva, Isabel and Jack. She will also be deeply missed by foster daughter, Nellie MacPherson of Nova Scotia.
The remains will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm the funeral service to be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at 2pm. Internment will be held in the Shenstone Cemetery, Shenstone at a later date.
Donations to the Salem Baptist Church or Forest Dale Home would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Bert Cairns
1931-2008
At the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on October 5, 2008, Bert Cairns age 76 of Fredericton, NB passed away peacefully. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late James and Janet (Bertram) Cairns.
Bert served with the Royal Canadian Service Corps in the Korean War in Churchill NWT., Egypt, Germany and other parts of Europe retiring from the military in 1965. He then went to work for Atmus Equipment and later with Fredericton City Transit until his retirement. Bert was a 35 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #15, Marysville as well as a life member.
Survived by his wife of 49 years Joyce (Munn) Cairns; three children Angela Cairns (Roger) of Fredericton, Ron Cairns (Cindy) of Toronto, and Clara Elliott (Wilbur) of Fredericton; special grandson Ronald Elliott of Fredericton; sister Jean Eddington of Hanwell Road; several nieces and nephews; special friends Ralph Beek (Genevieve), Fraser Stafford (Betty), Willis McAlwee (Helena), and Gary Keddy. Predeceased by a brother Jim Cairns.
A tribute in Bert’s memory will be held on Sunday October 12, 2008, where family and friends may gather at the Marysville Legion, 60 Veterans Drive from 2-4 PM. Internment will be held in the Doaktown Pentecostal Cemetery on Sunday at 5:30 PM. Memorials may be made to the Marysville Legion branch # 15 Poppy Fund.
George Lawrence Boyko
1940-2006
All too soon, George Lawrence Boyko, our beloved husband, father, and Grampie was taken from us on July 29, 2006 at the age of 65. He was born on November 15, 1940 in Port Alberni, BC, the son of the late Fred and Helen Boyko.
George joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 17, and spent time as a peacekeeper in Egypt and Cyprus, as well as postings to the Canadian Embassies in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and Moscow, USSR in the 1970s. He retired as a Captain in 1987, and then began his second career in real estate.
He was employed most recently with Century 21, earning 3 Platinum awards from the New Brunswick Real Estate Association, as well as the Century 21 Centurion award for the past three years.
George was an avid golfer, traveling around the province for a good game. He was a very busy man, involved with many organizations including the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (Atlantic), Royal New Brunswick Regiment (Carleton and York) Regimental Association, Fredericton and Area United Services Institute, the Oromocto Public Hospital Foundation, the Fredericton branch of the Peacekeepers, the Oromocto Sports Wall of Fame, the Canadian, New Brunswick and Fredericton and Area Real Estate Associations as well as the Chambers of Commerce for Gagetown, Oromocto, and Fredericton.
George was also a strong supporter of Canadian Blood Services. He was set to make his 100th blood donation later this fall.
George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Helene (Anderson), daughter Angela of Calgary, son Stephen (Christine) of Fredericton, brothers Fred (Diane) and Al (Jean) both of Port Alberni, BC, grandchildren Nicholas, Lauren and James, of Fredericton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road where visitation will be Monday, July 31 from 2 to 4pm and again from 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, August 1 at Wilmot United Church, 473 King Street with Reverend Bob Jones officiating. Interment will follow in a private ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oromocto SPCA or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Charles (Chuck) Lindsay
1927-2008
Died peacefully at home on December 26th, 2008 at the age of 81 after a series of recent illnesses; born near Windsor Ontario, Chuck experienced a wonderful life; at times full of challenges he met with courage and acceptance. He was a sharing husband and partner to his wife Shirley and a loving father and friend to his daughter Robyn.
A member of the Wesley United Church Lincoln N.B, Wesley United Church Men’s Club, GFB Gagetown Tankers SCUBA Club, International Union of Operating Engineers; Veteran of Canadian Armed Forces, he was a former crane operator in his early years; his mark was left on some of New Brunswick’s largest bridges. Later he became proprietor and friend to many for at Robin Village Mobile Home Park. Chuck was involved in many community and church associations over the years. He was an accomplished carpenter, with many other skills he shared with others. He was comfortable on the water at the helm of s sailboat, as he went under it, exploring marine life in various local and foreign locations as a SCUBA instructor. His main regret in life was that his Lindsay tartan kilt had trouble accommodating either passion, but he gave it his best shot. He loved to travel especially to visit his mentor and brother, Tom J. of Florida. Above all else Chuck instilled the values of righteousness and respect for others in all those that had the privilege of crossing his path. He will be missed, but not forgotten as his life continues through his family and those who knew him.
Survived by Shirley wife for 61 years; Robyn O’Keefe, daughter (John), Harvey Station N.B; Tom Lindsay, brother from the Villages Florida USA; three nieces and four nephews residing in Ontario and USA, and cousins in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
No visitation. A memorial service will be held from the Wesley United Church Lincoln, N.B on Tuesday December 30th 2008 at 1 PM. With Rev. Brian MacDonald officiating. Interment to take place in the Lower Lincoln Cemetery in the spring of 2009. No flowers please, for those who wish donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Arthritis Society of Canada or to the Fredericton SPCA.
Jane Babstock
1940-2009
Surrounded by her loving family, Jane Babstock of Fredericton, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on January 7, 2009 at the age of 68. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Maggie Devine (McDiarmid).
Jane was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, member of the Eastern Star Society and the Retired Nurses Association. She also was a volunteer worker with the Wheels to Meals program.
She is survived by her husband Tom, two daughters Shona of Ontario and Lindsay (Martin) Hann of Fredericton; grandchildren Kirk and Alexandra Gilbert and Rowena Hann; one brother, Thomas Devine (Jean) and nephew Scott Devine and many cousins of Scotland, as well as many in-laws in Cape Breton who she frequently visited. She will be missed by all.
Following cremation, a funeral service will be held on Saturday January 10, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel, 540 Woodstock Road, with visitation from 1-3 with Rev. Doug Blaikie officiating. Interment at a later date. Eastern Star will hold a tribute service at 2:30 PM, prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mary Tryphenia Caroline (Walters) Gilliland
1916-2009
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Gilliland, January 11, 2009, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. She was 92. Born in St. John’s, NFLD, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel Maude (Richardson) Walters and wife of the late Harold Robert Gilliland. Mary was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Nashwaaksis, as well as the St. John’s Anglican Church Morning Out Group, Nashwaaksis 55 plus Club where she enjoyed playing cards and until recently attended Wheels to Meals functions every week.
This special lady who was very loving and devoted to her family, is survived by her daughters Jean Stewart (Don) of Fredericton, Shirley Barker (Phil) of New Maryland; 5 grandchildren Tammy Johnson (Dan) of Moncton, Angie Chatterton (Andrew) of Quispamsis, Rob Stewart (Michelle) of Queen Charlotte, BC, Marjorie Barker (Jason Brewer) and Meghan Barker all of Fredericton; 4 great grandchildren Jacob and Benjamin Johnson, Katelyn Brewer and Carson Chatterton; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 7- 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Nashwaaksis on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bill MacMullin officiating. Reception to follow. Interment at a later date. For those who wish memorials may be made to the St. John’s Anglican Church Bldg. Fund, NB Heart and Stroke Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
