D. Merle Smith
1920-2007

The death of D. Merle Smith occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton on September 3rd, 2007, at the age of 87. Born May 8, 1920 at Doak Settlement, NB, she was the daughter of the late Clarence & Elizabeth (Lord) McConnell.
She lived in Waterville, NB for four years following WW II, moved to Presque Isle, ME in 1949, returning to Fredericton in 1977. Merle was an accountant and secretary. She was a member of the Olivet Wesleyan Church in Marysville and while as a member of Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, she served in various ministries. They included 20 years on the board of administration; 17 ½ years as Sunday School Supervisor and Director of Seniors. One of Merle’s passions was music and she sang in the choir and the King’s Daughters Quartet.
She is survived by her children Joanne Johnson of Fredericton and Wanda Prather of Easton, ME, Nina Haywood (Eric), Muriel McGuire (Owen), Merle (Annabel) Smith, Viola (Wally) Lewis, Clara (Murray) Bickford, Melvin (Faye) Smith; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother Eugene McConnell of Jacksonville, NB; one sister Donna Wallace of Lincoln, NB. She was also predeceased by her husbands James McIsaac and Edward J. Smith; children Durrel Smith, Hartley Smith and Lillian Frost; brother Alvah McConnell; sister Leona Harvie; sons-in-law Dale Johnson and Bryant Cummings; grandson Rev. Lyndall Frost; brother-in-law Sterling Wallace and sister-in-law Jean McConnell and a very special childhood friend Bill Hewitson.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday September 6th, 2007 from the Olivet Wesleyan Church in Marysville at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tim Guptill officiating, assisted by Rev. Tim Johnson. Interment will be held at the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, ME on Houlton Road on Friday at 2:00 pm American time. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Bethany Bible College Scholarship Fund or Riverside Camp.

Frank Malachi MacPhee
1917-2007

The passing of Frank Malachi MacPhee of Kingsclear, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 12th, 2007. He was born in 1917 at Monticello, PEI, the eldest child of the late Mel and Annie (Cummings) MacPhee, and husband of the late Victoria C. Larkin.
He was a member of the St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Kingsclear, NB. He began his carpentry career very early in his life in PEI and from there moved his family to NB in 1955. He was well known for his carpentry skills and took great pride in his workmanship. He will be remembered as being a hard worker who constructed many homes and buildings. He was employed at Jardine Renovations for the latter part of his career until his retirement in 1982.
He is survived by four sons; Gerard (Sylvia) of Fredericton, Arthur of Fredericton, David (Gail) of Kingsclear, John (Marie) of Keswick and one daughter Sandra (Don) of Ontario. Frank was also survived by three brothers; Joe (Norma) of NS, John (Mary) of ON, George(Gladys) of PEI and four sisters; Emmalena (Leverett) Crossman of PEI, Teresa Wilson of PEI, Gloria McInnis of PEI and Mary Warren of PEI, also by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife’s passing, he was predeceased by one son Edward, three brothers; Roddie, Gerard, and Wallie and two sisters Etta (Vic) and Minnie MacPhee.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Rd. with visitation on Tuesday from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 15, 2007 from the St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church Kingsclear, NB at 11:00 am, Father David Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s society would be appreciated by the family.

William "Bill" Spares
1931-2007

Passed away peacefully at The DECH on August 21st, 2007 Son of the late Gardiner and Amelia (Franklin) Spares, he was born in Northfield, Hants County, Nova Scotia on October 2nd, 1931. Bill served in the Canadian army for 25 years and retired with the rank of Warrant Officer. He was a veteran of The Korean War and also served with Emergency Force, Egypt. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4. After his retirement from the military; Bill worked an additional 18 years with the University Press of New Brunswick.
He is survived by his wife Zella (Anthony) of Fredericton; one brother Kenneth of Lower Selma, N.S.; one Son; Tony (Debbie) of New Maryland; Four daughters; Sandra (Brian) MacLean, Fredericton, Patricia (Andre)Hamilton, St. Stephen, Janet (Garth)Thomas, Fredericton and Pamela (Robert) Schnarr of New Maryland: 12 grandchildren, Jessica, Michael and Jenny Maclean, Taylor and Blake Hamilton, Kaitlyn and Colin Spares, Amanda, Meghan and Colby Thomas, Rebecca and Jacob Schnarr. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one brother, Lewis (Lillian), of Hantsport and two sisters; Claire (Weldon)Cole, Meaghers Grant, N.S. and Elsie (Hugh) Richards, Oromocto, N.B.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, where visitation will be held Saturday, August 25, 2007 from 7pm - 9pm.
The funeral service will be held at The Christ Church Parish Church, 245 Westmoreland Street on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm. The Venerable John Sharpe will officiate. Burial will take place immediately following the service in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. There will be a graveside Legion Tribute Service. A reception will follow at the church hall. For those who wish to make a donation in Bill’s memory, Bill has suggested the Parkinson’s Society or the Canadian Cancer Society. Bishop’s Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements._

Blanche Gertrude Muise
1933-2007

The passing of Blanche Gertrude Muise of Oromocto NB occurred on July 24, 2007. Born on May 7th, 1933 in Yarmouth NS, she was one of 17 children born to the late Fred & Gertrude Muise.
Devoted to her family Blanche is survived by her 4 children, Arnold Leblanc (Susan) of Geary NB, Sandra Chappelle (Eric) of Geary NB, Paul Leblanc of BC & Darlene Leblanc (Nick Hould) of Moncton NB. Five grandchildren; Shea, Korilee, Adam, James & Nicholas, as well as 4 great-grandsons, Tristan, Reid, Cohen & Jack. Also her wonderful friend Fred.
She will be fondly remembered as nanny banana to her great-grandchildren and best known for her love of life, her special hugs & kisses and her old family favorite recipes. She will be sadly missed and always held close to the hearts of her loved ones.
There will be no visitation at the request of the family. A small memorial service will be held for immediate family at St. Vincent de Paul Church.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Maureen Devoda Cavanaugh
1941-2007

At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, July 5, 2007, Maureen Devoda Cavanaugh of Fredericton passed away at the age of 66. Born in Marysville, she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Allie (Estey) Pond. Maureen enjoyed knitting & other crafts, bird hunting, fishing, bingo and loved to travel. Her greatest love was her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by Doug, her husband of 48 years; 2 sons Bob (Joanne) Cavanaugh, Todd (Kathleen) Cavanaugh; 2 daughters Dixie Archibald (Bill), Pam Webb all of Fredericton; 2 granddaughters Megan and Jennifer; 5 grandsons Jamie, Dabney, Brad, Billy & Duncan; 1 sister Debbie Patterson (Stan) of Hanwell; 1 brother Carm Pond (Connie) of Fredericton; sisters-in-law Joanne “Duane” Pond, Sylvia “Goldie” Pond, Mary “Dale” Pond, Marg Brideau; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by 4 brothers Goldwyn “Goldie” Pond, Dalton “Pudge” Pond, Dale Pond, Duane Pond; sister-in-law Mary “Pudge” Pond; brother-in-law Phil Brideau; niece Lisa Pond; nephew Michael Pond.
The family will receive friends at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Marysville Baptist Church on Monday, July 9, 2007 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Laurie Fenerty officiating assisted by Pastor Chris Price. Interment will be held at the Marysville Baptist Cemetery. Donations to the IWK or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

Donald Earl Green
1937-2007

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Donald E. Green age 69, of Fredericton on July 20, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Fredericton he was a son of the late Harold Green and Minnie (Sewell) Green and husband of the late Sylvia (Beattie) Green. Donnie volunteered his musical entertainment at York Manor (where his mother is about to celebrate her 98th birthday). Proud to be a “Rabbit Towner” he could often be found at Burger King early in the am with his fellow Rabbit Towners.
He is survived by his sons Kevin wife Laura, their children Christopher (Tina), great granddaughter Alyssa, Kerry (Luke), Marissa, Gary and Jordan; Tom wife Lise, their children Cassie and Jake; step daughter Donalda; his mom Minnie; companion Margaret McGrath; brother Allan (Bea) Green; sisters Nancy Hodgson and Thelma Chessie; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, friends and fellow musicians. Predeceased by a daughter Cynthia, sister Frances Kenny, brother in law Tyler.
A time of celebration will be held on Tuesday July 24, 2007 at the home of Steve and Gail Green 11 Beaverdam Ct. Hwy. 101 Beaverdam NB (ON THE LEFT JUST PAST THE O’LEARY RD.) from 4-6pm followed by a memorial service. A reception will be held immediately following. Bishop’s Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Myrtle C. MacDonald
1913-2007

The passing of Myrtle Charlotte MacDonald of Scotch Settlement, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Friday, June 29th, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. She was 93. Born August 18, 1913 in Doaktown NB, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Martha (Young) Parker. She was Pentecostal by faith and was an avid knitter and quilter. One of the greatest enjoyments in her life was traveling to Ontario to visit her daughters and grandchildren. Her family was her life and she will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Myrtle is survived by 6 daughters, Bertha Foster (late Eastman) of Black’s Harbor, Lillian Guiggey (John) of Fairbanks, Alaska, Betty Porter (late Charles) of Woodstock, Ont., Frances Merrill (late Dell) of Scotch Settlement, June Yerxa (Philip) of Scotch Settlement, Carolyn Lively (Patrick) of Ingersoll, Ont., 2 sons, Herman MacDonald (late Margaret) of Scotch Settlement and Roy MacDonald (Jean) of Scotch Settlement; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband William D. MacDonald (1973), 3 infant sons – Murdick, Stanley and Philip, 2 grandsons, Maynard Foster and Gregory Hughes and 2 brothers George and Dow Parker.
The family will receive friends at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Monday evening, July 2nd from 7-9 PM. A private funeral service will be held. Honorary pallbearers will be her 8 children. Active pallbearers will be grandsons Ryan McLeod, Adam Guthrie, Charles MacDonald, Colin Leger, Darrell Marr and John Mazerall. Interment in the Scotch Settlement cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Myrtle’s memory can be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
