Michael Clayton Halliday
1979-2016
Michael Clayton Halliday, 37, of River Glade passed away Thursday September 8, 2016 at his residence. Born in Moncton, he was a son of Dennis and Donna (Plume) Halliday. Michael attended JMA Armstrong High in Salisbury and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his daughter Maegen, playing cards with the boys and stock car racing. Survived and sadly missed by his parents Dennis and Donna of River Glade, his cherished daughter Maegen MacCallum of Riverview, sisters Kristal Perry (Nick) of Riverview and Stephanie Halliday of River Glade, his grandparents Robert and Thelma Plume and Ruth Halliday of Salisbury, nieces Morgen, Kayla and Sam and by uncles, aunts and cousins. Survived also by his canine companion Daisy. Predeceased by an infant brother Dennis and grandfather Russell Halliday.
A Celebration of Michael's life will be held from the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) on Tuesday September 13 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Smith officiating. Interment at the Loyalist Cemetery, Havelock.
Memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Norman Keirstead
1931-2012
Keirstead, Norman Dorsey, 80, of Moncton passed away peacefully March 13, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital with his family at his side.
Born in Portland Maine, he was a son of the late Elwell and Florence (Thorne) Keirstead. At an early age his family returned to Havelock where he graduated from the former Havelock High School. He worked for Sumner Tire & Automotive Ltd. and then became the Maritime Manager for Mister Muffler, later Speedy Muffler. He went on to be a self employed businessman and retired as an agent with Century 21 Real Estate. He was the last serving Mayor of the then Village of Lewisville where he worked tirelessly in the establishment of the Kay Arena. He was a member and Past Master of the Harmony Lodge No. 20 F& AM, Salisbury, a Shriner where he served as transportation chairman for sick children for many years and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. A cancer survivor he established the Moncton Cancer Support Group where he made many lasting friendships.
Survived by his beloved wife Lorna (Milner-Jones); his children Barry (Carol Ann) of Quispamsis, Brian of Lower Coverdale, Bonnie Redden (Keith) of Halifax, Brent (Fay) and Blake (Denise) of Moncton; step children Madge Hoar (Richard) of Salisbury and Dyson Jones (Andrea) Sussex Corner; his brother Herbert (Shirley) of Petitcodiac; 20 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; the mother of his children Rowena Brown of Moncton; his step mother Erma Keirstead of Petitcodiac and her family; brother in law Kenneth Milner (Marjorie) of Saint John, nieces and nephews.
Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Thursday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. The Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday March 16 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jonathan Gorham officiating. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Petitcodiac at a later date.
If desired memorials to the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Roy Ernest Alward
Mr. Roy Ernest Alward, of the Kiwanis Nursing Home, formerly of Lower Millstream, passed away at his residence on May 26, 2002. Born in Havelock, NB on March 10, 1913, he was the son of the late Ernest and Alphia (Thorne) Alward.
Roy was survived by his beloved wife Lorna (Hutchins-Dickie) Alward, step-daughters, Valerie Lloyd of California; Sharon and husband Peter Kraft of Denfield, Ontario, step-son, Kem and wife Stella Dickie of Moncton; 3 sisters, Gladys Holbeche of Saint John; Rilla Lisson of Sussex; Myra Alward of Lower Millstream; Margaret Sprague of Lower Millstream, sister-in-law, Marion Alward, 3 step-grandchildren, Kevin, Shawn, Darryl, 3 great grandchildren, Olivia, Meagan, Peter, several nieces and nephews. Special friends, Maureen and Peter MacLean of Fredericton and their children, Ryne and Julie.
Roy was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Donald and by 4 sisters, Helen Rivers, Annie Ward, Muriel Bailey and Nina Ravn.
He was a mechanic and radiator repairman in Lower Millstream. He served in the Canadian Army overseas during WWII. He was a member of Lower Millstream United Baptist Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20 and the Millstream Volunteer Fire Department. Roy was a very private man. He was quiet, accepting and non-judgmental. Most would consider him to have a great sense of humor and a good listener. He will be greatly missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where the family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday 2-4, 7-9. Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 will hold a tribute on Tuesday evening at 6:45.
The Funeral Service will be held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Allison MacLean officiating. The musical selections “How Great Thou Art” and “Saved by Grace” will be provided by Heather Bradley, Organist and Duane MacLeod, Soloist.
Interment at Pinegrove Cemetery.
The Honorary Pallbearers are: Gordon Bickerton, Frank Gaunce, Ernie Gowlett and Archie Dorie.
Robert (Bobby) Simmons
July 26, 1929 - April 9, 2001
Robert (Bobby) Simmons of Smith Creek, New Brunswick, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre, on April 9, 2001.
Born in Moncton, NB on July 26, 1929, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Simmons.
Bobby is survived by his sister, Dorothy Simmons of Hampton, and his sister-in-law, Doris McBride of Smith Creek.
He is predeceased by his foster brother, Frank McBride who passed away in 1995.
Bobby was brought up in his early years by the later Roy and Alice (Virtue) McBride. After their death Bobby continued to work on the McBride Farm for several years. He enjoyed farming, animals and gardening.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, from where visitation was held.
Funeral service was held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on April 12, 2001 with Rev. Bob Hussey officiating.
The musical selections “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden” where provided by Anne Williams.
Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery in the Spring.
Jennie Nicholls
1925-2017
Jennie Nicholls, 91, of The Golden Years and formerly of Salisbury passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Moncton Hospital.
Born in Summerside, PE she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Russell. Jennie was a hairdresser in her early working years and later a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, baking, had a lovely voice and loved to sing for family and friends and caring for her family.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Nicholls (Eldon), Calgary, AB; son Jeff Nicholls, Sarnia, ON; granddaughter Jade, niece Debbie Archer and sister-in-law Lizabeth Nicholls. Predeceased by her husband Russell P. Nicholls.
There will no service by request. Arrangements are in the care of Salibury Funeral Home & Crematorium (372-4800).
If desired, memorials to the Parkinson's Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
Howard Holmes
1932-2012
Howard E. Holmes, 79, of Fawcett Hill and recently of Jordan Life Care Centre, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital.
Howard worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia for 10 years before entering full time ministry with the PAOC in 1960. He pastored in Parrsboro Shore, Newcastle and East Jeddore before coming to Full Gospel Assembly, Killams Mills, where he ministered from 1974 - 2007. Rev. H.E. Holmes will always be remembered as a fun-loving, tender-hearted pastor who served his Lord, congregation, and community faithfully - laughing and sharing in the celebrations and weeping with you in times of loss. Those who knew him well, will not forget his love for music and God's creation. If he wasn't preaching or singing with the family and playing the accordion, you could find him in the garden, flowerbed or combing the beach for driftwood. Howard was a husband and father who spoiled his family with love, laughter and countless good times together. He sacrificed for the ministry, he sacrificed for his family - but he never sacrificed one for the other.
He is survived by his loving wife Rose Marie (Vienneau) Holmes; children Margie Lynn (late Bernard) Demont of Fawcett Hill, Myles (Valerie) of Collinsville, Illinois, Jody (Karen) of Tabusintac, David Holmes (Dawn) of Havelock and Charis (Daniel) Aubey of Fawcett Hill; grandchildren Jeremy (Alanna), Marla and Twila Demont, Jordan, Zachary (Ripley), Angela, Chantelle and Destiny Holmes, Jay, Kendra, Chelsea and Meagan Holmes and Brayden and Isaiah Holmes; great grandchildren Claire and Kate Demont and Preston Holmes. Howard is also survived by brother Kenneth (Emily) Holmes and sister Elizabeth Jean (Holmes) Simmons. He is predeceased by his parents Preston and Mamie (Hatt) Holmes; sister Pauline (Holmes) Leavitt and brothers Theodore and Clifford.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Sunday, March 18, 7-9 pm and Monday, March 19, 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held at Full Gospel Assembly, Killams Mills on Tuesday, March 20 at 2 pm with the service conducted by his loving family. Interment at Steeves Settlement Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials, if desired, to Full Gospel Assembly Youth Center or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
D. Bruce Williams
Williams, D. Bruce (1949-2012) Bruce Williams, 62, of Salisbury, NB, passed away at the Moncton Hospital surrounded by love on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
Born in Antigonish, NS he was the son of Marjorie (West) and the late Edmund Williams, Salisbury.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 41 years, Darlene (Colpitts) and daughter Melanie, Moncton; brother George (Carmella); sisters Jean Jensen (Karl), Salisbury and Tracy Busson (Reg), Chipman; brother-in-law Dennis Colpitts (Donna), Salisbury; nieces and nephews Tanya, David, Joanna Williams, Kelsey, Courtney, Denver Busson, Dean Colpitts (Paula) and great-niece, Chloe.
Bruce was a former helicopter pilot with the Canadian Armed Forces, owner of Nelderdale Fox Ranch and also operated a wildlife nuisance control company. He was involved in many areas of the wildlife and insurance sectors and served on many boards throughout the years. He was Chairman of Southeastern Mutual Insurance Company, Riverview, Past-Chair of United General Insurance Company, Fredericton, Chairman of the Fur Institute of Canada, Ottawa, Treasurer of the International Fur Trade Federation, London, England and Board member of Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan, Cambridge, Ontario. He was also a mason with Harmony Lodge #20, Salisbury.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home and Crematorium, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800), visitation will be Tuesday, March 20, 6:30 - 9:00 pm (Masonic service at 6 pm). A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, March 21, 2pm with Rev. Dan Compton officiating.
