Eileen M. Phee, R.N.
1929 - 2008

Eileen Mary Phee, widow of the late Courtney D. Phee, of the South Napan Road, passed away at her residence, on Monday afternoon, July 21, 2008, at the age of 78. Born in Chatham, on September 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lillian (McBride) O'Donnell. She was an RN by profession and worked in nursing as well as in nursing administration in the Toronto area, prior to retirement. She attended St. Michaels Basilica, Miramichi. She is survived by one daughter, Darlene M. O'Donnell (Gerald), of Toronto; one grandson, Jean Paul O'Donnell (Erika), of Toronto; two sisters, Marie Flynn, of Glenwood and Elizabeth Wood, of Toronto, Ont.; three brothers, Patrick O'Donnell (Barbara), Herman (Buddy) O'Donnell (Norma), and William O'Donnell (Mary), all of Glenwood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Courtney, in 2002; one brother, Edward O'Donnell. Visitation was at the funeral home on Wednesday, with vigil prayers on Wednesday afternoon, led by Father John Fraser. Mass of Christian Burial was held from St. Michaels Basilica, on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 11 am, conducted by Father John Fraser. The music for the mass was supplied by Mrs. Norma Sudgen and the hymns were "Come To Me", "InThe Sight Of The Angels", "My Soul Is Longing For Your Peace", "Magnificat", "Be Not Afriad", "Peace is Flowing Like A River". The Scriptures were read by Kelsey Redmond and Brenda Brennan and the Prayers were led by Maurine Redmond. The honorary pallbearers were Edward Phee, Anita and Roy Gilliss. The active pallbearers were Daryl O'Donnell, Raymond O'Donnell, Greg O'Donnell, Brian Savoy, Philip Jardine, Pat Phee. Interment was in St. Michaels Cemetery, Miramichi. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone 773-3492, or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca

Mark Charles Williston

Mark Charles Williston, aged 51 of Dartmouth, passed away July 22, 2008 at QEII - V.G. Site. Born in Chatham, NB he was the son of the late Carmen and Renee (Van Marsenille) Williston and step mother, Nellie (Waye) Wililston. Mark graduated from James M. Hill Memorial High School, Chatham in 1976 from where he started his electrical training and then continued to apprentice under local electricians to obtain his license. Along with his cousin Kerry Williston, they traveled to Calgary on their motorcycles where Mark apprenticed and received his industrial electrical certification as well as his inter-provincial license. Mark returned to Nova Scotia in 1984 where he obtained employment with MTT (Aliant) as a cable splicer. One of the things Mark loved was being outdoors where he enjoyed camping and fishing. Other than his family, Mark's biggest passion was computer programming in which he was self taught. His innate sense of curiosity enabled him to completely understand the inner working of any computer system. He was highly regarded by his peers at both his work and in the computer programming Community. Survived by his wife Wanda (Wojcik), Daughter Victoria and son Kyle both at home.

Alex Norris Curtis
1940-2008

Mr. Alex Curtis, of Blackville, passed away Tuesday July 22, 2008, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 68. Born in Blackville, he was the son of late Norris and Germaine (Sullivan) Curtis. He was a woodsman and attended Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Blackville. Alex is survived by Anna Chapman; two daughters, Rosalie Mullin of C.I. Rd, and Joanne Chapman (Sterling Crandell) of Hilltop Rd; three sons, David Chapman (Heather Hopcraft) of C.I. Rd, Stephen Chapman of Maple Glen, and Clarence Chapman of C.I. Rd; eight sisters, Jackie (Sheldon Nash), Zelda (Joseph), and Treva (John Coughlan) all of Grey Rapids, Diana of Miramichi, Dorothy (Derrick McEvoy) of Barnettville, Mae (Derrick Stewart) and Laverna (Perley McEvoy) of White Rapids, and Marg (Ernie Fournier) of Miramichi; six brothers, Norris Jr. (Nancy) of Barnettville, Robert (Lou), Scott (Wanda), Allan (Miranda), and Sidney (Helene) all of Grey Rapids, and George of Fredericton; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family received relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Northumberland Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral service was held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, in Blackville, on Thursday July 24, 2008 at 11am with Father Douglas Barrett officiating. Organist Margaret Craig led the congregation in the singing of the hymns. The pallbearers were his nephews Malcolm Stewart, Randy Fournier, Darren Fournier, Jeremy Curtis, Tommy Curtis, and Hal Coughlan. Burial was at St Agnes Cemetery in Grey Rapids. The funeral arrangements were in the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St. telephone 622-7741.

Melvina "Vina" Doucet Bathurst

Mrs. Melvina "Vina" Doucet, 96, wife of the late Fred N. Doucet, of West Bathurst, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (July 22, 2008) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. Born in South Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Anna (Theriault) Melanson. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Fred N. Doucet, in 1992 and is survived and will be sorely missed by her daughter, Janice and son-in-law Guy of Bathurst; baby brother, Louis Melanson (Odille) of Bathurst; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was pre-deceased by half brothers, Philias, Benoit "Benny", Thomas, Arthur; half sisters, Frances (Mrs. James Kenny), Pricilla (Mrs. Amos Doucet), Sylvie, Marguerite, Ida, brother; Reginald, sisters, "Carmelita" (Mrs. Herb Landry), "Leona" (Mrs. Louis Roy). Proud mother and home-maker, she received her correspondence Diploma in invisible re-weaving and opened her own business from home. An expert gardener, she loved flowers and called them "Food for the Soul". She was also an avid Genealogist, excelled in a multitude of crafts and loved making her own Christmas displays. She was a member of the Nepisiguit Geneology Society, Bathurst Gardiner Club and the NB Scottish Cultural Association. The body will rest after 7:00 p.m. Monday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday morning (July 29, 2008) at 11:00 a.m. from the Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral. Donations in memory of Vina may be made to the CNIB or the Nepisiguit Geneology Society.

Margaret Joan McCuaig

Margaret Joan McCuaig, died July 22, 2008 at The Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Margaret Joan Stewart May 24, 1932 in Chilliwack, B.C. Daughter of Charles Lyle Stewart and Harriet Mary Grace Bustin. After graduating high school in 1950, she joined the R.C.A.F. as an Administration Technician and served in England with the First Fighter Wing until her discharge, in 1955. She took time off to raise a family and rejoined the workforce in 1969 as a secretary for Consolidated Bathurst pulp and paper in New Richmond, Quebec. In 1976, she resumed her career with the Public Service as a supervisor with HRSDC in Bathurst N. B. She retired after 20 years and settled in Saint John N.B. She was an accomplished singer and enjoyed being a member of the choir with her church, St Joachim's, as well as with The Carleton Choristers of West Saint John. She is predeceased by her first husband of fourteen years, Romeo Donald Roy (1930-1969), her second husband of twenty nine years, Allan McCuaig (1922-2005), a brother Ronald Frederick Stewart (1930-2002) and a son, Gerald Arthur Roy (1957-2003). She is survived by a step sister, Shirley Peyota of Williams Lake BC, two daughters, Nola Lorraine Roy-Comeau, Dorothy Joan Roy-Nini, sons Richard Stewart Roy, Brian Alden Roy, Allain Charles Roy. She is also survived by five stepsons, Roger, Leo, Paul, Barry and David McCuaig. 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her spirit will be with us forever. The family would like to thank the staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital for providing such great care and support during this difficult time. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, 2008 from St. Joachim's Church at 10:00 am. Interment to take place at a later date. Elizabeth Cormier

Bathurst - Mrs. Elizabeth Cormier, 88, wife of the late Lionel Cormier of Hillside avenue in Bathurst, passed away on Thursday, 24 July 2008 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Abraham Boudreau and the late Rose-Anna Doucet. She is survived by four sons, Isidore (Carmen) Cormier of Quebec, Omer (Kelly) Cormier of Edmonton, Alberta, Henri Cormier, Fernand Cormier, both of Bathurst; five daughters, Anita Drisdelle, Thérèse Cormier, Rosanne Cormier and Maria Cormier, all of Bathurst, and Anita Cormier of Lasalle, QC; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Jeannette, a sister Rose-Anna and a brother, Harry, predeceased her. Elizabeth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The body rested at Elhatton funeral home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, 26 July 2008 at 11:00 am from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst. Interment was in the Holy Family Parish cemetery, St. Peter Ave, Bathurst.

Laurina Marie Couture

Quispamsis, NB - Laurina Marie Couture passed away July 10, 2008. Born in Bathurst she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Dorothy (Cormier) Hachey. Laurina is survived by her children: Bertha (Robert) Bently of Toronto, Annette (Harry) Follett of Saint John, Yvon of Calgary, John (Darlene) of Rothesay, Monique (Paul) Broderick of Kingston Penninsula, Lisa Couture (Kenny Warren) of New Hampshire, Simone King (Bill Hanna) Calgary; and Andre (Mary Lou) of Tentalon NS, one daughter-in-law, Lynn Couture Watson. 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Beloved friend Jim Smith. One sister Eleanor (Albert) Jacques of Bathurst. She was predeceased by her husband Louis J. Couture and a son Robert. Brothers: Alex, Leonard and James. Sisters: Elizabeth Pate, Mary (Minnie) Gray, Elva Legacy, Margaret Stever and her twin, Stella Couture. Anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy the family request that donations be made to the Kidney Foundation. Funeral Service was held July 14, 2008 from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay NB.

Pat Curry

The death of Pat Curry of Belledune occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the age of 70. Born in Belledune, he was the son of the late William Curry and the late Margaret (Boyle). Pat was an employee of Brunswick Smelter for 30 plus years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lorraine (Landry); daughters, Caroline Curry Oldham (Sam) of Moncton, Ann Curry of Moncton; brothers, Daniel of The Pas, Manitoba; William of Halifax; Richard of Moncton; Sisters, Mary Eva Maine of Guelph and Margie Dehart of Naramata, BC. He was pre-deceased by a brother John and sister Catherine. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home, a private graveside service in Belledune is to be held at a later date. Mathilda Roy

Bathurst - Mrs. Mathilda Roy, 77, wife of Adélard Roy of Packard St. Bathurst, passed away on Thursday July 31, 2008, at Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. Born in Bathurst, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. Doucet and late Marie Anne Couture. She is survived by her six children, Jean Claude Roy (Marielle Thibeault) of Balmoral, Suzanne Roy, Jacqueline Arseneau both of Bathurst, Monique (Fernand) Chiasson of Allardville, Daniel Roy (Sylvie Bernatchez) of Beresford and Rachelle (Johnny) Robichaud of Allardville; her seven grandchildren, Eric, Karine, Gaëtanne, Mylène, Mélanie, Stéphanie and Sophie; her two great grandsons, Samuel and Kaël; her brothers and sisters, Albina Burnside of Australia, Edmond (Raymonde) Doucet of Bathurst, Lorraine (Normand) Godin of Beresford, Antoinette Roy of Petit Rocher, Jeanne D'Arc (Paul) Thériault of Petit Rocher; Diane Doucet of Bathurst, Denis (Marie) Doucet of Beresford. She was pre-deceased by one son; Patrice, one grandson; Jason, three sisters; Évangéline, Stella and Anita, two brothers; Théofred and Ronald. Visitation was at the Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral St. Andrews St., Bathurst, Saturday August 2, 2008 at 2:00. The burial was in the St. Mary's cemetery.
