GILL-the death of Marie-Monique Gill of 124 Black St., wife of Kenneth Wm. Gill, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Mrs. Gill was born in 1936 at Verdun, Quebec, where she was raised and educated, and had resided in Saint John since 1958.
Apart from teaching French as a second language for several years, Monique was involved through the years with a number of organizations:
Le Cercle Francais de Saint-Jean; SAANB; Toastmistresses; St. Pius X Parish Council; St. Pius X Choir; Saint John Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services as a board member; and also a co-founder of CHHA-NB Chapter. After training and receiving accreditation in Calgary, she initiated instruction classes in speechreading (lipreading) for the hard of hearing and instructed many classes. She was predeceased by her baby son, Sean in 1967, and her 15 year old son, Mark in 1975.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Celine Chagnon, her brother, Jean-Michel Chagnon (Monique), 2 nephews, 1 nieces, and several cousins, all from Verdun and LaSalle, Quebec. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Gail Kai (Darrel) of Langley, B.C., as well as two nephews. Her mission was accomplished and the Lord called her back.
Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Tuesday from 7 to 9. Service will be held at Fitzpatrick's Chapel on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,donations to the Canadian Hard of Hearing (Saint John Chapter/National) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
P. Geneva Teehan

TEEHAN-the death of P. Geneva Teehan, formerly of 319 Millidge Ave., widow of Walter J. Teehan, occurred at Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis, on Sunday, January 4, 2009, surrounded by her family. Geneva was born in Ward's Creek, a daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Gray) Kierstead. She had been employed at Marcus Furniture until beginning to raise her family. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Hilson Kierstead. She was a member of St. Peter's Bowling League for many years and enjoyed skating at the Saint John Forum.
She is survived by three sons, Walter (Laurel) of Sussex, Michael(Sandra) of Quispamsis, and Eric (Marilyn) of China; two daughters, Julie McGrath (Cecil), and Sheri Green (Mark), both of Saint John; one sister, Ruby Bison of Saint John; 16 grandchildren, Kelly, Jody, Michelle, Meredith, Matthew, Kristian, Shay, Tamara, MacKenzie, Amber, Aaron, David, Ben, Jenna, Zachary, and John-Eric; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrate at St. Pius X Church on Wednesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society, the Retts Foundation, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Sr. Mary B. Hurley

HURLEY-the death of Sister Mary B. Hurley (Sr. M. Assunta) of Ruth Ross Residence occurred at her residence on Friday, January 9, 2009. Sister was born in Semiwagon Ridge, N.B., a daughter of the late Daniel and Clara (Maher) Hurley. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on March 25, 1935. Sister served over twenty years in Vancouver as a Homemaker at Sacred Heart Convent, Our Lady of Mercy Home, and Immaculate Heart Convent. On her return to Saint John she assisted the sick and infirm at St. Vincent's Convent and the Mater Misericordiae Home. She also served at Marycrest and St. Joseph's Convents. While living at St. Pius X Convent, Sister Hurley was involved in Parish Ministry. She was predeceased by four brothers, Martin, John, James and Daniel Hurley; and one sister, Sister Phoebe Hurley, S.C.I.C.
She is survived by four brothers, Joseph Hurley of Gores Landing, Ont., Anthony Hurley of Georgetown, Ont., Peter Hurley of Deep River, Ont., and Colonel Raymond Hurley of Gloucester, Ont.; three sisters, Miss Clarissa Hurley of Saint John; Mrs. Alice (Cliff) Billington of Toronto, and Mrs. Stella Renneberg of Kamloops, B.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Vincent's Chapel on Tuesday mooring at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Prayer Vigil will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock.
Alphonsus L. Gallagher

GALLAGHER-the death of Alphonsus L. Gallagher of the Turnbull Nursing Home occurred at his residence on Friday, January 16, 2009. He was born in Saint John, a son of the late Charles and Genevieve (McKenzie) Gallagher, and had been employed at with Saint John Shipbuilding until his retirement a number of years ago. He is survived by one brother, Paul Gallagher of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews.

LOCKHART-the death of John M. Lockhart of 146 Germain St., husband of Margaret Ann (Coakley) Lockhart, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 18, 2009. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 14 and had served in the Canadian Army. Mr. Lockhart was employed with Irving Paper until his retirement a number of years ago. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jack (Yvonne) of Malmesbury, England; two brothers, Kenneth of Sussex, and Howard (Jean) of Quispamsis; one sister, Barbara Barry (Arthur) of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews.

SCOTT-the death of Alexander J. "Sandy" Scott, husband of Julia A. (Doherty-Brown) Scott, occurred at Loch Lomond Villa on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Sandy was born in Saint John, a son of the late Francis and Mary (Worden) Scott. He was a graduate of St. Vincent's Boys High School. He had operated Scott Bros. Grocery for 35 years and later was a member of the Corps of Commissionaires. He served as a wireless operator during the Second World War. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Rhoda Patchell; and two sons, Frank Scott and Robert Brown. Besides his wife, she is survived by four sons, John Scott of Saint John, Kenneth (Cathy) Scott of Edmonton, John (Susan) Brown of Saint John, and David (Heather) Brown of Quispamsis; two daughters, Andrea and Mary Claire Brown, both of Saint John; one brother, Leonard (Jacqueline) Scott of Montreal; one sister, Mary Mazerolle (Robert) of Saint John; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
