Dorothy Mabel Thorpe
April 26, 2001
The death of Dorothy Mabel Thorpe occurred at Pine Grove Nursing Home on Thursday, April 26th, 2001. She was 84 years old. Born in Woodstock, NB., she was the daughter of the late H. Beecher and Clarissa (Perkins) Durost and wife of the late Arthur W. Thorpe.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters: Marilyn Rowan (Charles) of Fredericton, NB., Evelyn Mann (Brian) of Halifax, NS. and Jeanne Lee of Milltown, NB.; one brother Dr. Henry B. Durost of Toronto, ON.; one sister-in-law Evelyn Marsden of England; eight grandchildren; one cousin John Hayes (Janice); several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both parents and her husband.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, April 29th, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 30th, 2001 at Christ Church Cathedral at 2:00 PM with Rev. Elaine Lucas officiating. A reception will be held at the Church Hall, immediately following the service. Interment will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
For those who wish, donations may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer Society, Christ Church Cathedral (Restoration Fund) or The Grove Foundation, would be appreciated by the family.
Jean Claude Philippe
1942 - 2001
The death of Jean Claude Philippe occurred at his residence, Fredericton on April 26th, 2001. Born in Kedgwick, New Brunswick on October 13th, 1942, he is the son of the late Andrew and Juliette (Dumoulin) Phillips. Jean Claude Philippe enjoyed a distinguished career serving as an intelligence officer in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1960-1972. His later career to date was President of his own company, Brothers/Freres Management Associates, Inc. with over 20 years of providing training and development to foremen, supervisors, and managers in all sectors of the economy. He was known as a passionate man who deeply influenced the lives of all those he met. He is and will always be missed. He is survived by one daughter Claudine Philippe (Jules) of Vancouver, BC one son, Gordon Philippe (Anne) of Vancouver, BC, one sister, Viola Babb (Phil) of Calais, Maine, nieces and nephews and by Shirley Roux of Vancouver, BC, Anne Lowe of Moncton and Gary Moore of Fredericton. Predeceased by his father and mother, one brother Gordon, and two sisters, Andrea and Gertrude. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at Ste.-Anne-des-Pays-Bas Catholic Church, Fredericton on Monday, May 7th at 11:00 AM. Rev. Stanislas Paulin will officiate. Interment will be in Milltown Catholic Cemetery, St. Stephen, NB. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Eva May Coburn
The death of Eva Coburn occurred on Thursday, April 26th, 2001 at York Manor Nursing Home. She was 94 years old. Born in Ripples, NB, she was the wife of the late Ernest Coburn and daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Fulton) Lunergan.
Eva was a member of Gibson Memorial United Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Celestial Chapter #3 for over 50 years and was also the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by son-in law Allan, step-son: Neil, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers, sisters and four children: Robert, Helen, Don and Eleanor.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28th,2001 at 11:00 AM at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, Fredericton, NB. with Peter Somerville officiating. A tribute service will be held by members of the Order of the Eastern Star Celestial Chapter #3 immediately following the memorial service. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to York Manor Nursing Home.
Holly Joseph Wood
April 22, 2001
The death of Holly Wood occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home on Sunday April 22, 2001. Born in French Lake, NB, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Hogan) Wood. Predeceased by his parents, Smith and Elizabeth (Haney) Wood.
Holly served in World War II in Europe with the Medical Corps. An avid gardener and constant reader, in later years he became a published poet, with a book entitled "Wandering Winds". He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 for over 55 years, and a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus #9496, St. Francis of Assisi.
Predeceased by three sisters, Agnes, Annie and Theresa; three brothers, Allan, James and Wilfred; and one grandson, Greg Jones.
Besides his wife Elizabeth, Holly is survived by one brother Arthur of Fredericton; three daughters, Joan Jones (Milton) of Quispamsis, NB, Sharon Chellis (Robert) of Red Deer, AB, and Judith Wood of Hampton, NB; two sons, Michael (Judy) of Fredericton, NB, and Joseph (Lise) of Madawaska, ME; seven grandchildren- Laura (Greg) and Danny, Ian (Kiran),Chris and Leigh, Sarah and Justin; two great-grandchildren, Daryl and Holly; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute service on Wednesday 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 26th at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 12:00 noon with Father Don Savoie officiating. Interment will be at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes to the St. Francis of Assisi Building Fund, or to a charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated by the family.
Mary King
The death of Mary King occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 24th, 2001. Born in Hebden Bridge, England daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Tennant, wife of the late Rev. John Cecil King.
Survived by two sons; Dr. Russell King (Lorraine) of Fredericton, and David King (Barbara) of Upton, Massachusetts, one daughter June Bidgood (Douglas) of Oshawa, Ontario, nine grandchildren; Stephen King, Jennifer DiGirolamo (David), Amy Olmstead, Elaine Bidgood, Paul Bidgood, (Tara), Allison King, Kevin Bidgood, Sarah King and Stephen Bidgood, and two great grandchildren,
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 25th, from 5-6 PM. Funeral service at 7:00 PM in J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Rev. Reginald Miller officiating. Interment will take place at Cataraqui Cemetery, Kingston, Ontario. Marcel Eugene Latouche
The death of Marcel Eugene Latouche occurred at home on Sunday, April 22, 2001. Born in Lisbon, Maine, son of the late Joseph Telesphore and Florida Blanche (Michaud) Latouche, husband of Lillianne (Caron) Latouche. Marcel was a registered Professional Land Surveyor, in the State of Maine, and was a registered Professional Electrical Engineer in both the State of Maine and Province of New Brunswick. While in the USA he worked for Stone and Webster Consultant Engineers in Boston, Mass, Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick Maine, and Wright & Pierce Civil Engineers in Topsham, Maine. He also did survey work for the Maine Turnpike Authority and he did Land surveying for Howard Babbidge & Sons of Freeport, Maine. He was an Electrical Engineer for Delta Electric in Fredericton, NB and an Electrician at Base Gagetown. He worked for ten years at New Brunswick Housing in Fredericton, NB and for the last ten years of his employment he worked with J.B. Real Estate in Fredericton, NB. Marcel most enjoyed spending time with the family he loved, reading, discussing politics, languages, doing crosswords, fishing and gardening. Marcel was known to be a good handyman and his grandchildren knew that Pépé could fix anything. He also enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sports activities and concerts; he was their biggest fan! Survived by his wife Lillianne, six sons; Mark D. Wells, of Toronto, Ontario and his son Robert of Bathurst, NB, André (Marjolein) and their children Anneke, Breanna, Carouna of Fredericton, NB, Richard (Linda) and son Michael, of Keswick, NB, Claude (Tina) and their children, Ashley, Emily, and Jordan, of Atmore, Alabama, Eugene (Dianna) and their children, Jason and Mark, of Charters Settlement, NB and Laurier of Kitchener, Ontario, (Fiancée Peggy Jacques of Fredericton, NB); two daughters Jeannine Carr (Terrence) and their children Amy, Sarah, Jeffrey, and James, of Fredericton, NB, and Monique Barriault (James) of Fredericton, NB, one brother, Roland (Lucienne) of Sabattus, Maine and one sister, Annette Coté (Hubert) of Lisbon, Maine and many nieces and nephews.
No Visitation or flowers by family request. Memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 28th, at 2:00 PM at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Rev. Monte Peters officiating. With a reception to follow the service. For those who wish memorial tributes made to NB Extra Mural Program or charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
Keith Ian Rivington
1930 - 2001
Keith Ian Rivington of Fredericton, New Brunswick died peacefully at his home Sunday, April 22, 2001. Born November 19, 1930 in Nottingham, England, he was the son and only heir of the late Thomas and Barbara (Glazebrook) Rivington. He was an executive with Montreal Engineering Company (Monenco) for many years and with Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL) later in his career. He had many interests and pursued new endeavors with a vengeance.
Keith is survived by his wife Eileen (Chapman) and two daughters, Susan Lynn (Richard) Ryan of Woodstock, NB; and Jill Melissa (Don) Swinton of High River, AB; and three sons, Neil George Edward (Patricia) of Pitt Meadows, BC; Thomas (Micheline) of Woodstock, NB; and Bruce (Sherry) of Fredericton, NB. He was a special grandfather to Genevieve and Jillian Ryan, Ian and Marissa Swinton, Keifer and Tyler Rivington, Abbigail and Isabelle Rivington, and Gavin Rivington.
Funeral Service will be held at J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, April 25 at 11:30 AM. Reverend Robert Barry will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
Bev McDougall
Bev McDougall passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmer’s Hospital on Monday, April 16th, 2001. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick he was the son of the late William and Blanche (McLeod) McDougall and husband to the late Gertrude (Harrison) McDougall.
Bev is survived by his daughter, Margaret (David) Slade of Fredericton, NB; sons, Robert (Andrea) of Charlottetown, PEI and James (Donna) of Guelph, ON; and seven grandchildren Alexander (Sandy), Kaitlyn, Aaron, Christine, Justin, Jessica and Nicole.
Predeceased by his parents, wife and brother, William.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at 2 PM with Rev. Peter Short officiating. Memorial tributes made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Dr. Ray Goodine
February 24, 1923 - April 13, 2001
The death of Dr. Ray Goodine, husband of the late Margaret Edith (Dowling) Goodine occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home , Fredericton N. B. on Friday, April 13, 2001.
Born in Red Rock, N.B. on February 24, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Mary (O’Hara) Goodine.
Ray is survived by four sisters; Doris (Jack) Ryan of Mississauga, Ontario, Phyllis Mitton (Wally Schwartz) and Barbara (Willian) Rowan of Fredericton and Loretta (LeRoy) Washburn of Oromocto; one brother, Ronald (Doreen) Goodine of St. Stephen, N.B. and several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by a sister, Thelma Monahan, niece Grace Rowan and brothers-in-law Earl Mitton, Hayden Monahan and William Timmins.
Ray practiced dentistry in St. Catharines, Ontario from 1950 until his retirement in 1994. He returned to his native Fredericton, N. B. in April 1999. While residing in St. Catharines he was an active member of the Cathedral of St. Catharines of Alexandria.
He will be sadly missed by his many friends in St. Catharines and particularly by the member’s of the Niagara Peninsula Dental Association, the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club, The Gyro Club of St. Catharines and the St. Catharines Club.
Resting at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, N.B. with visiting on Sunday, April 15, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The mass of christian burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Church, Fredericton at 12:05 PM on Monday, April 16, 2001 with Monsignor Brian Henneberry VG celebrating. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Cemetery at a later date.
Pallbearers will be nephews David Timmins, Rick Mitton, John Rowan, Michael Washburn, Derek Washburn, Steven Goodine, Michael Goodine, and Brian Mitton. Honorary pallbearers include John Ryan, Kimberly Howe, Greg Rowan, Lori Washburn, Teri VanIderstine, Patrick Washburn, Sandra Goodine, Jennifer Goodine, and Dr. David Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of the one’s choice would be appreciated.
