Victor Garnet McLean
The death of Victor Garnet McLean of 26 Montgomery Crescent, Saint John, husband of Audrey (Adams) McLean, occurred on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Arthur and Hazel (Jenkins) McLean.
Mr. McLean was an Industrial Mechanic with Irving Paper for 25 years, before his retirement. Prior to working with Irving Paper he was employed with Metropolitan Life Insurance. He was an avid hunter and a former member of the Saint John City and District Dart League, member of the Adanac Club and was a 50 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert W. (Diane) of Saint John and Mark A. (Janet) of Willow Grove, two daughters, Nancy A. Estabrooks (Robert) of Saint John and Lorna J. Hargrove (Bradley) of Rothesay, one sister, Helen O’Neil (James) of Saint John, six grandchildren, Ross and Robyn McLean, Bradley and David Estabrooks, Donald McLean and Adam Hargrove, mother-in-law, Margaret Adams of Saint John and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Donald and one brother Clement.
Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, the Saint John Boy’s and Girl’s Club or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated.
Isabelle Bessie Irene Meikle
The death of Isabelle Bessie Irene Meikle, of 10 Durham Street, Saint John, occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at her residence. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William Wallace Meikle and Elizabeth (Riley) (Meikle) MacKenzie.
Miss Meikle was Anglican by faith and attended St. Paul’s (Valley) Anglican Church and was a member of the Golden Harps Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by one son, Raymond of Halifax, NS, one daughter, Pat Aiton (Gary) of Saint John, one brother, Harold Meikle of Fredericton, two grandchildren, Lorena Belliveau (Kevin) of Fredericton and Sean Collicott and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her companion, Thomas Durning, one daughter, Sharon Collicott an infant daughter, Roberta Irene and one brother, Roland Meikle.
By her request, there will be no visiting at the Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. Remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Nenita L. Politico
The death of Nenita L. Politico, of 310 Woodward Avenue, Saint John, occurred unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Manila, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Inocencio and Esperanza (Lacerna) Politico.
Nenita was a School Teacher in the Philippines for many years, before moving to Canada, where she taught for over 20 years before retiring from M. Gerald Teed Memorial School in 1993. She enjoyed extensive travel especially on the Queen Elizabeth II.
She is survived by one brother, Dr. Jovencio “Ben” Politico (Zenen) of Phoenix, AZ, one sister, Evelina Guzman (Dr. Roger Guzman) of Saint John, nieces Rolyne Butler (Mike) and their children, Michael and Sarah Butler, Roevel Guzman, Jeanette Johnson, Josie, Abboud, Joan Politico, Karen Politico, Shirley Politico and Jennifer Politico, nephews, Carl Politico and Jeffrey Politico, several grand nieces and nephews and many relatives in the Philippines.
By request there will be no visiting at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Friday, June 6, 2003 at 12:00 Noon. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances to the Saint John Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the Staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit for their care and kindness over the past year. Fraser Weston
Fraser Weston of Fairfield, NB, passed away on June 2, 2003 at the age of 74. He was the son of the late Harry and Frances (Armstrong) Weston. Fraser is survived by his good friend, Maysie Hunter, two sons, Paul (Pam) and Kevin (Kathy), one daughter, Sharon, nine grandchildren, Michelle (Darren), Rebecca, Courtenay, Ryan, Aaron, Braydon, Rebecca, Cheyenne, and Jocelyn-Sue (Keith), and three great-grandsons, Alex, Nicholas, and Ryan. He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth (Al), Mary and Leitha (Herb), brothers, Arnold (Rita), Charlie (Dorothy), Arthur (Kay), and Jimmy (Barb), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was predeceased by his loving grandson, Corey, and four brothers, Edison (Hig), Lawrence (Helen), Wellesley (Jane), and Joseph (Mary).
By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 11:00 AM from Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424. Pauline Beatrice McCumber
McCumber, Pauline B. - The death of Mrs. Pauline Beatrice (Donovan) McCumber formerly of Hillcrest Drive, occurred on Friday June 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (Mullins) Donovan. Pauline was employed in the Assessment Office for the Provincial Government until her retirement. She was a member of the Rothesay R.C.L. Senior Citizens, Kennebacasis United Baptist Church, a life membership to the United Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union of the Atlantic Provinces and an avid bowler. Pauline is survived by two sons Harold (Bonnie) McCumber of North Carolina, David (Margaret) of Hampton, one daughter Joan (James) Crozier of Barachois, NB, seven grandchildren Tricia and Stephen, Ryan, Regan, Reid, Todd, Alanna, six great grandchildren Taylor, Laney, Nicholas, Shanyn, Bryce and Cabe, several cousins, members of the Walsh family, Sharon, Mark, Johnny, Michael and Brian. Besides her parents she was predeceased by one brother Harold.

J. Edwin Achorn
The death of Mr. Joseph “Edwin” Achorn of Old Black River Road, Saint John, NB, husband of Betty F. (Bartlett) Achorn, occurred on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born in Glen William, PEI, he was the son of the late Joseph Wellington and Emily Amelia (Conrad) Acorn. For 35 years, Edwin had been enlisted with the Armed Forces as a field engineer, from where he retired. During his career with the army, Ed had been stationed in Japan and USA. He had taken part in the Atomic Bomb testing in Nevada in 1954. Ed was presently active with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #53, the Atlantic Retired Sappers, Atlantic Korean Veterans, and the Armed Forces Retired Civil Service Workers.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, James E. and Gary P. (Claudette), all of Saint John, two daughters, Donna J. Runtz of Fredericton, and Brenda L. Thorne of Saint John, NB, one brother, Vernon Acorn of Glen William, PEI, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Minnie Munn, Lena Conway, Myrtle Buchanan, Ella MacKay, Winnifred Gillis, and Mildred Acorn, and brothers, Lawrence, Arthur, Harold, and Nathan Acorn

Raymond Garfield Albert
Albert, Raymond G. - The death of Mr. Raymond Garfield Albert of Prince Edward Street, husband of Louise (Doiron) (Cyr) Albert occurred on June 18, 2003 at his residence. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Allan and Jenny (Wilkinson) Albert. Raymond was employed with the City of Saint John as a heavy equipment operator, a veteran of WWII he had served in the Army from 1939-45 with the Saint John Fusiliers and overseas with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry and joined the Air Force from 1950-70 were he went overseas to Europe. He was a past member of the Markland Masonic Lodge Kingston, NS, R.C.L. Branch # 69.
Besides his loving wife Louise, Raymond will be very sadly missed by his twenty children whom he bragged about to everybody he would talk to.
He is survived by six sons; Stephen (Jo-Ann), Robert (Gladys) Crossman, Danny Metzler, Timothy (Joann), Allan (Angela) all of Saint John, NB, Raymond Jr. (little Ray) of Portage La Prarie , MB and Daniel of Moncton, NB, two daughters; Jenny Strain of Terrace, BC and Cynthia Thorne of Gibsons, BC, stepchildren Linda (Ronnie), Lorna (Bill), Lorraine (Wilfred), Laura (Frank), Lois (Gill), Leona (Wendell), John (Aileen), Gary (Debbie), Mary (Al), Marlene (Bill), Darren (Louise), Luanne (Greg), Sandy (Mike), two sisters; Lillian Stein and Joy McKenzie both of Saint John, NB, grand children; Ashton, Ronalda, Donald, Adam, Tamara, Tinishia, Trent, Tyler, Tara, Robert, Cassandra, Jakob, Jasmine, Tanisha, Shawn, Cynthia, Tanya, Evangeline, Rebecca, Dustin and several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers; Allan (Bubs), Donald and Percy and two sisters; Norma, Gladys and Stella.

Leslie Freeman Carson
The death of Leslie Carson of Saint John occurred on Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Ingleside, NB the son of the late Ora and Viva (Ward) Carson.
Leslie was employed with Canada Post as a Letter Carrier until his retirement. He was an ardent hat collector, enjoyed fishing and was active with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 2 and attended First Wesleyan Church, Boar’s Head Road.
Leslie is survived by his wife, Arlene (Kierstead)(Charlton); two sons, James (Louise) of Hunter Lake and Kenneth (Trena) of Saint John; one daughter, Joan (Fred) Stilwell of Sydney; four stepchildren, Lloyd (Marie) Charlton of Hoyt, Elizabeth (Robert) Shepherd of Saint John, Barbara Charlton of Saint John and Cheryl (Scott) Shillington of Saint John; twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, one brother Frank of Guelph, several nieces, nephews and one aunt. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia; an infant son, Paul; a daughter, Linda Doucet and a sister, Almeta McFadden.

Lana D. Dann
Lana Dorothy Dann of Saint John died in hospital on Tuesday, May 13, 2003. After entering the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 28, 2003, Lana lost her brave fight with cancer.
She is survived by her mother, Helen (Russell) Godin, her daughter, Lees (Dann) Doley, and her step-mother, Eva Tomlinson of Montreal. She was predeceased by her step-father, Alfred Godin.

Donald Leith Dean
The death of Mr. Donald Leith Dean occurred December 19, 2002 at Frederick, Maryland, USA, formerly of Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, Donald was the son of the late Thomas and Ruby Dean. He is survived by his wife, Edna (Shaw), son Donald B. (Jenifer) Frederick, Maryland, daughters, Colleen Emenau (Paige) of Saint John, NB, Sharon Marr, Greensboro, North Carolina, one sister, Judy Chatterton, Saint John, NB, two brothers, Douglas (Nelda), Saint John, NB and Raymond (Margaret), Fredericton, NB, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Ralph and two sisters, Thelma and Barbara.
Mr. Dean served with the Carleton and York Regiment during the Second World War, in Sicily, Italy and Holland, where he was wounded. He was awarded the United Kingdom Defense Medal, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-1945 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. In October 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Peter van Binnenkijk, Assistant Military Attache Royal Netherlands Embassy, presented him with the Medal of Remembrance by the Royal Netherlands Government for his service related to the liberation of Holland in 1945. He was a life long member of the Carleton York regimental Association.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s (Valley) Anglican Church, St. Paul Street, on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at 2:00 PM, with interment following at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Field of Honour.
