WILLIAM R. CONNELL

The death of William R. Connell, of 74 Germain Street, Saint John, husband of the late Susan (Janes) Connell, occurred on Sunday, June 29, 2003, at his residence. Born in Saint John, on November 29, 1909, he was the son of the late William and Bessie (McEachern) Connell.

Mr. Connell was employed with the Bank of Montreal for many years before his retirement in 1972. He was a member of St. John Baptist (Mission Church) St. Clement and had attended the Cathedral.

He is survived by one son, Robert (Laureen) of Burlington, ON, one daughter, Joan Marie Stewart of Framingham, Mass., three grandchildren, David Stewart of Columbia, SC and Jane Powell, Alan Connell, and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Ryan Powell all of Hamilton Ont. and two special friends, John and Agnes Addison of Saint John, NB.

He was predeceased by one brother, Arthur.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held from Brenans Funeral Home, Monday, July 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances to St. John Baptist (Mission Church) St. Clement or the charity of the donors choice.

Frank (Frankie) Murray Chisholm

The death of Mr. Frank (Frankie) Murray Chisholm of Stephenson Tower, occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born in Saint John he was the son of the late S. Alexander and Dora (Goddard) Chisholm.

Frankie had been employed in sales for many years between Ottawa and Saint John worked at M.R.A.’s in sales. He enjoyed to make people laugh, playing cards, yard sales, golf and sailing.

He is survived by four sons Alexander, Darren, Christopher all of Calgary, James (Vicki) of Saint John, four daughters Elizabeth of Vancouver, Dawn of Calgary, Carla (Darrell) and Terra both of Saint John, two brothers Allan of Saint John, Douglas (Debbie) of Boynton Beach, Florida, four sisters Marlene Brideau, Judy (Tom) Boyle, Sandra (Ron) Levine and Mary Lou (Brian) Maguire all of Saint John, Jacqueline Chisholm, two grandsons Terran and Terrell, several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by three brothers Wayne, Bill and Donald, one sister Shirley Grass

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, July 31, 2003 from 7-9 PM. The memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, August 1, 2003 from Forest Hills United Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Interment will be held in Fernhill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Walter Ambrose Butler

BUTLER, WALTER A.- The death of Walter Ambrose Butler, of Rothesay, NB, husband of Gertrude (Walsh) Butler, occurred on Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late James and Mary Eleanor (Trainor) Butler.

Mr. Butler was the Regional Manager of National Drug Company for many years, before his retirement. Walter was a former member of St. Peter’s Parish, Holy Name Society of St. Peter’s Parish and active in the choir, before moving to Rothesay, where he was a member Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and their church choir, and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of U.C.T., and the Rotary Club of Saint John, where he was active with the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Saint John and a member of the Probis Club of Saint John.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ann Barbour of Rothesay, two sisters, Sister Agnes Butler, SCIC and Rosie McLaughlin, both of Saint John, three grandchildren, Mary Beth Barbour, Andrew (Drew) Barbour and Margot Stevenson, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Beth Stevenson, granddaughter, Sara Jane, brothers, Vincent Butler, Msgr. Joseph Butler, Leonard Butler and Father Albert Butler and sisters, Helen Holmes and Loretta Cormier.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Rothesay, on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at 12:00 Noon. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, at a later date. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. “To Love another person is to see the face of God”.

David L. Burnside

The death of David L. Burnside of Saint John East, occurred on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on May 26, 1932 he was a son of the late Hazen and Viney (Schofield) Burnside. He was employed with City Transit for over 30 years before retirement. He was a veteran of the Korean War. David is survived by Brenda Coes, son Kevin (Janet), daughters Brenda (Mrs. John Cooke) of Deer Island, Karen Erb, Linda McLean, and Terry Cook of Saint John, a brother Arthur of Rothesay, and sisters Helen, Mabel, Florence and Vi and Joyce, twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother James Burnside.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from where the funeral will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Friday with services at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donors choice. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Rev. Dr. Norman C. Burnett

Rev. Dr. Norman C. Burnett passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 27, 2003 at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late William Burnett and Florence (Ennis) (Burnett) Carr. Besides his wife Eleanor (Young) he is survived by his three daughters, Sharron Guptill (Murray) of Grand Manan, Pamela Ferguson (Robert) of Burlington, ON and Deborah Burke (Robert) of Halifax, NS; sister Clara Day, Burlington, ON; five grandchildren, Dennis (Louise) Guptill, Ward (Elaine) Guptill, Jason (Natalie) Burke, Jilaine and Amanda Ferguson; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Victoria Burnett, brother-in-law, Clyde Young (Marjorie); several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson, Galand Guptill and brother Gordon Burnett.

Rev. Burnett was a Baptist Minister serving in various churches throughout New Brunswick and Maine including Lower Millstream, Collina, Head of Millstream, Snider Mountain, Kierstead Mountain, Apohaqui, Flatlands, Mann Settlement, St. Laurent de Matepedia West, McDavid Mountain, Sillarsville, Quebec, Tracey Mills, Knoxford, Monticello, Maine, Deer Island, Fairhaven, Lamberts Cove, Chocolate Cove. Following his retirement, Rev. Burnett served at St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church in Saint John, to later be named as Honourary Minister Emeritus. He was president of Seagulls of Market Square Senior Citizens Club, Saint John, Former President of M.S. Society, Saint John City; Always helping the needy in their time of loss, supplying spiritual needs as well as food and clothing through the church. Provided food to various food banks, Romero House; Contributor to Citizen, Bugle, Sussex (Kings Co. Record); Observer (Hartland), Quoddy Tides (Deer Island); Weekly sermonetts, Saint John Telegraph Journal. Volunteer with the Red Cross. Served as Director Word of Faith Bible College, St. John the Baptist Fellowship; President of Home and School Association, Centreville, NB, Frequent visitor of radio stations with morning devotions – C.K.N.B., Campbellton, C.J.C.J. Woodstock, NB; Radio Program – president of the South Aroostook District Sunday School Association. W.H.O.H. – Bible story program for boys and girls. Welcome Home Mission, Montreal, Quebec; Montreal Expo- Counsellor for Billy Graham Pavilion. General Chairman, Canadian Red Cross Society Carleton County, NB. Telephone Counsellor, 100 Huntley Street, Crossroads Christian Communications.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Matthews Presbyterian Church, 90 Douglas Avenue on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 12:00 noon. Interment in St. Martin’s Community Cemetery. Remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Matthews Presbyterian Church or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan would be appreciated.

Murray E. Burley

The death of Murray E. Burley, husband of Margaret M. “Peggy” (Galbraith) Burley, of Smythe Street, Saint John, occurred on Friday, July 18, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late William (Will) and Florence (Morris) Burley.

Murray served during the Second World War with the N. B. Rangers in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe and was formerly employed with the Port of Saint John and was a member of the ILA Local #273.

Murray enjoyed golfing and fishing and was an avid sportsman. He was awarded a lifesaving medal for saving a child on the marine dock on the West Side. Besides his wife, he is survived by his twin daughters, Margaret and her husband John Schnieder of St. Andrews, NB and Marilyn MacDonald of Rothesay, NB; his brothers, James (Dot) of Fredericton, NB and Frank of Prince Edward Island; his sisters, Dorothy (Ditty) Burley of Saint John, Lorraine Comeau of Saint John West and Elsie Dwyer of Saint John West; his grandchildren, Jennifer Sulprizio of California, Roxane Streeter of Rothesay, Melissa Gadowsky of Fairbanks, Alaska, Michael MacDonald of Rothesay, Cail MacDonald of Rothesay, Jillian Chown of Churchill, NWT, Nathan Chown of St. Catherines, ON, and Melanie Chown of Saint John; his great-grandchildren, Brooke and Anna Streeter, August and Annabelle Sulprizio, Mac and Magnus Gadowsky; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Brian in 1981; brothers, Allison, Gordon and Vincent; sisters, Margaret Blagdon and Ruth Bawn; and a grandson, Kyle MacDonald in 1998.

Following cremation at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), Saint John, the funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 2:15 PM from Brenan’s Chapel.

Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.

Remembrances made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

McKinnon, Gerald (Jerry) M.;

McKinnon, Gerald (Jerry) M.;

The death of Jerry McKinnon of Saint John, NB, occurred unexpectedly at his residence, on Tuesday, July 8th, 2003.

A lifelong resident of Saint John, Jerry was the son of the late Gerald W. and Phyllis B. (McLean) McKinnon-Fennell.

Jerry is survived by his wife Joan (Jordan) McKinnon, his son Jerry of Halifax, and daughter Jessica and grandson Kyle of Saint John. His sisters Ann Marie McLellan (Cissy), and Crystal McKinnon, brothers Tom and Rick McKinnon, and several nieces and nephews, all of Saint John.

Jerry worked for Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd. for 14 years and then at R.M.H. until an accident in 2002, which left him unable to work. Jerry loved to play pool in his free time. He will be deeply missed by all, including his loving dog Rusty.

At the family’s request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634- 7424), on Friday, July 11, 2003 at 2:00p.m. For those who wish, donations can be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.

Ann F. (Campbell) Fairweather,

Fairweather, (Campbell) Ann F. - The death of Mrs. Ann Florence (Kelley) Fairweather, of Loch Lomond Villa and formerly of 270 Cranston Avenue, wife of the late William Fairweather occurred on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born in New Zion, NB, she was the daughter of the late George and Maude (Richardson) Kelley. Ann was employed with Sears Canada (Lansdowne Ave.) for many years. She volunteered for Hospice, Girl Guides and the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

Ann is survived by three daughters Patricia and her husband Graham Kaiser, Carol and her husband John Ellis and Heather Campbell and her companion Jerry Callahan, two sons Ken and his wife Elaine, and David, and one step-son Robert and his wife Penny Fairweather, two sisters Maude Gaudet of Brampton, Ontario, and Edyth Blair of Oxford, NS, one brother George Kelley, eleven grandchildren Steven Kaiser, Angela Kaiser Hansen, Kimberly Ellis, Dr. Catherine Ellis, Tom Ellis, Andrew Ellis, Bonnie Eadle, Stacy MacKinnon, Peter Campbell, Karen Simon, Alison Campbell, twenty great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by her first husband Hartley A. Campbell, two brothers Claude, Howard, four sisters Jean, Iona, Evelyn and Lois.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (5069-634-7424) with visiting on Friday, July 11, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 12, 2003 from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
