McGUIRE, Lianne Laura (nee Cluney) - Passed peacefully away in Edmonton, Alberta, October 12, 2002, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Leaving to mourn husband Doug; three daughters, Tammy (Jon), Priscilla and Candace; two granddaughters, Bella and Kendra; her parents, Fred and Hazel Cluney of Kelligrews; nine sisters; five brothers and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place in Edmonton, Alberta. Special thanks to Daphne for her devoted loving care to Lianne.

MOSS, Vera Annie (nee Riddle) - Passed peacefully away at the Leonard Miller Centre on October 13, 2002, Vera Annie Moss, formerly of Cambridge, England, in her 90th year. Predeceased by her husband, Howard in 1988. Leaving to mourn daughter Jacqueline Petrie and husband Bob; very dear friend Margo Evans at St. John`s; sisters-in-law, Hilda Tilley of North Bay, Ontario and Doris Riddle of Harlow, England; nieces and nephews in England as well as long time friend Hilda Howse of Grand Falls. No visitation. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Rd. with interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery , Kenmount Road. SCOTT, Terrence (Terry) Michael - Passed peacefully away on Monday, October 14, 2002 at L.A. Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit in the presence of his family, Terrence Michael Scott, age 55 years. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Eileen Scott; and his niece, Angela Scott. Leaving to mourn his wife and best friend of 30 years, Theresa (nee Doyle); his three sons, Darren (Jenny), Terry Jr. (Lisa) and Jeffrey (his best buddy); three loving and precious grandchildren, Tyler, Desiree and Jessica; two brothers, John (Rose) and Brian (Debbie); two sisters, Betty Atkinson (Jim) and Marita Scott in Ontario; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph (Jenny), Peter (Isabel), John (Rosalind), Edward (Val Jean), Patrick (Tina), Maxwell (Jean), Michael and James, all in St. John`s, Helen Kirby (Robert), Florida, Agnes Rablin (John) Washington, Laura McCabe (Martin), Edmonton, Lorraine Webber (Mark), Toronto and Gilbert, Toronto; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday. Cremation to follow. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 1 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Terrence`s memory may be made to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation or the Janeway Children`s Hospital.

Predeceased by his son Dominic 1988. Leaving to mourn his wife of 47 years, Beth (nee Kelly); two sons: William (Cherie) and Edward; two daughters: Rose Trahey (Harold) and Kelly; seven grandchildren: Tracey Lynn, Harold, Angie, and Trevor Trahey; Betty Rose, Christopher and Brandon Woodford; two sisters: Frances, New Jersey; Carmel, Hamilton, Ontario; two sisters-in-law: Agnes Hawco and Mary Gushue; two special friends: Heather Dalton and Harry Tulk; also, other relatives and friends. Resting at Hickey`s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Funeral to take place on Saturday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Church, Harbour Main. Interment in the R.C. cemetery , Chapel`s Cove.

Left with fond and loving memories, her daughter Linda Bartlett; son-in-law Eric; and cherished granddaughter Suzanne; her sisters: Mrs. Jean Clarke, Mrs. Shirley Squires and Mrs. Mabel Counsell; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Ruth Tapper, Mrs. Alice (Frank) Rowe, Mrs. Norma Jones; special friends: Rita Morgan and Jean Bartlett; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 4th from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, August 5th from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral Service from Cochrane Street United Church on Monday, August 5th, 2002 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cochrane Street United Church Building Fund.

SIMMS, Ettie P. - Passed peacefully away July 27, 2002 at the Valley Vista Seniors Home, Springdale, Ettie P. Simms. She was 68 years of age. Predeceased by husband Francis; brothers: Elijah and Ray. Left to mourn are sons: Frank (wife Daphne) of Scarborough, ON and Ivan (wife Kim) of Pilley`s Island, NF; daughter Arlene (husband Bruce Payne) of Pilley`s Island, NF; also leaving to mourn sister Dorothy Roberts (Neil) of Gander, NF and brothers: Alex Cassell of Pilley`s Island, NF and Harold Cassell (Wendy) of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Capts. Blaine and Darlene Hopkins conducted funeral services at the Salvation Army Citadel, Pilley`s Island, NF on July 30, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was at Salvation Army cemetery , Pilley`s Island. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Ethel Fifield, Doris Payne, Paula Rideout, Miranda Fudge, Margaret Tizzard and Bride Osmond.

Leaving to mourn his loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Florence (King); two sons, Gerry (Anne), Dartmouth, N.S., Glenn (Gert), St. John`s, two granddaughters, Michelle and Allison, one sister Elizabeth (Charles) Maw, Toronto, also many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents Ballington and Amy Ann (nee Green) Tilly of Hant`s Harbour, Trinity Bay, sister Marion and brother William. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held on Monday Aug. 5, 2002 at 2 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant cemetery . Donations in his memory may be made to the Waterford Dialysis Unit, or to a charity of one`s choice.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Mary; sons: Eric (Barbara) of Chamberlains, CBS, Lorne (Yvonne) of New Brunswick and Peter (Yvonne) of Chamberlains, CBS; eleven grandchildren; sisters: Elizabeth (Neville Burt) of Gander and Doris Ash of California; plus a large circle of other family and friends. Resting at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin Friday, August 2nd from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.; August 3rd from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Funeral service to take place from St. Peter`s Anglican Church, Rock Harbour on August 4th at 2 p.m. with interment following at the Anglican cemetery , Rock Harbour. BURRY, Margaret Henrietta - Passed peacefully away August 1, 2002 in the presence of her family, at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Care Centre at Hr. Breton, Margaret Henrietta (Williams) Burry, in her 88th year, of Pool`s Cove, Fortune Bay. Survived by son Jack [John] (Myrtle), St. John`s; daughter-in-law Laura, Maddox Cove; Elizabeth (Dave Talarico), Anten Mills, Ontario, Jocelyn (Keith (Hoss) Manley), Stratford, Ontario, Jennifer (Doug Caines), Pool`s Cove; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Catherine Hancock, Pool`s Cove; brothers: Roy (Enid), John, St. John`s and Ged (Bessie), London, Ontario and a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband Hubert in August 2001; son Pat in 1994 and daughter Trixie in 1947. Mrs. Bury was a devoted wife and mother, who participated in community events, especially involving education and her church, as an organist and as a soloist and choir member. She had a particular passion for music and enjoyed performing as well as listening. During her husband`s 41 year teaching career, she served as nurse and caregiver in many remote areas of the province. She was an avid reader and a creative knitter, having created patterns for NONIA in the 1940`s while living at Fair Island, Bonavista Bay. She also found great joy in the familys` pets, being outdoors, loving to walk, pick berries and watch the birds that came to her feeders. Funeral services to be held at MacDermott Memorial United Church, Pool`s Cove Saturday, August 3, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to MacDermott Memorial United Church, Pool`s Cove or to a charity of one`s choice.

Butler, March 1997; son Douglas C.W. Butler, May 2002; son-in-law John Champion, March 1993; daughter-in-law Sylvia Butler, July 2002. Leaving to mourn two daughters: Alliston Champion, Bernice Smith (Kevin); seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters; two special nieces: Bernice Clarke (Gus), Amelia Cook (David); other nieces and nephews. Resting at Holloway`s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation Thursday 2-10 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral service from Markland United Church Saturday, August 3 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at United cemetery , Markland.
