THOMPSON, Elsie Gwendolyn (nee Bussey) - Of Birch Hills, Bay Roberts (September 28, 1954 - June 21, 2001). A woman of quiet courage, deep faith and great kindness passed away at the Health Sciences Complex on June 21, 2001 in her 46th year. Predeceased by her father Louis Bussey (1995). Gwen leaves to mourn their loss and celebrate her life devoted husband of 25 years Leonard Thompson, son Murray, aged 23 years, daughter Emilie, aged 20 years, all of Birch Hills; mother Doris Bussey, sisters Betty Lundrigan (Doug), Marguerite Bussey (friend Peter), brothers Louis Bussey (Christine), Larry Bussey (Christine), all of Bay Roberts; mother-in-law Mildred Barrett Thompson, Upper Island Cove, sister-in-law Cavell Pilgrim (Calvin), Birch Hills; nieces Victoria Pilgrim, Desirée Bussey, Sarah Bussey; nephews Mark and Larry Lundrigan, Kurt Pilgrim and Matthew Bussey. Recalling many happy memories are other relatives and a large circle of friends, including the Beaver Bunch. Resting at Moore`s Funeral Home, Bay Roberts on Saturday 10 AM - 10 PM and Sunday 10 - 12 Noon. Funeral service on Sunday, June 24, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bay Roberts, Majors Clyde and Helen Guy officiating. Floral tributes or donations to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre would be appreciated. 'Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on His gentle breast, There, by His love o`ershaded, Sweetly my soul shall rest.'

WALSH, Margaret Mary - Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, June 21, 2001, age 82 years. Predeceased by her husband Edward (Ned) Walsh. Leaving to mourn son William, son Edward Tobin, daughter Elizabeth and special family friends Karen Parsons and Sheila Hookey. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, June 25th, 2001, at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica. Interment to follow at Belvedere cemetery . Flowers gratefully accepted.

BUTT, Gordon Sr. - Of Carbonear, passed away peacefully at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear, Nfld. Wednesday, June 20, 2001. Mr. Butt was 89 years old. He leaves to mourn his loving Family: wife Irene; children: daughters: Jean (George) Anthony, Grand Falls-Winsor, NF, Joan (Dan) Burke, Carbonear, NF; sons: Gordon (Florence) Jr., Moses (Francis), Bruce, Gary (Joanne), all of Carbonear, NF; a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Predeceased Family: wife Lillian; sons: George, Donald and Herbert; parents: Maude and George Butt. The Family will be receiving relatives and friends at Slade`s Funeral Home, Carbonear from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. The Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the Salvation Army Citadel, Carbonear, NF, followed by the interment at the Salvation Army cemetery , Carbonear, NF. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Slade`s Funeral Home, Powell Drive, Carbonear.

Resting at Hickey`s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Funeral to take place on Saturday, September 30, 10:30 a.m. from Holy Cross Church, Holyrood. Interment at the R.C. cemetery , Holyrood.

DAWE, William Albert - 92, of New Minas, Kings co. passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2001 in Wolfville Nursing Home, Wolfville, NS. Born in Port De Grave, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Morgan) Dawe. He worked as an office manager with Asarco in Buchans, Newfoundland for 40 years. In 1976 he and his wife moved to New Minas and spent their winter months in Florida. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, New Minas; the Gyro Club, and the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. He is survived by nieces: Lorraine MacLaughlin and Florence Pippy, both of St. John`s; Jean Boyd, Brantford, Ont.; Norma Elliott, Ottawa, Ont.; nephew Reg Elford, Bedford. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Olive Field; brother Harold; sisters: Winnie and Ella. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001 both in the H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Kentville. Father John Scott officiating. Interment in the Anglican Church cemetery , Port De Grave, Nfld. at a later date. Memorial donations to the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville.

Predeceased by parents: Thomas and Gertrude Fitzgerald; sister Eileen and brother-in-law Harry Kelly. Leaving to mourn wife Madeline; four daughters: Patricia (Noel) Murphy, Western Bay, Pauline Fitzgerald (Gary Noftle), Broad Cove, Anna (Keith) Jenkins, Western Bay and Bernadette (Richard) Preston, Western Bay; one son John (Roxanne), Western Bay; son-in-law Robert Fitzgerald, Western Bay; eight grandchildren: Paul, Jamie, Erin, Jason, Brian, Amanda, Mitchell and Robyn; one brother John (Mary), Western Bay; one sister Mary Kelly, Gambo; brother-in-law Stan Noftle, Broad Cove; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at NOEL`S FUNERAL HOME, MAIN HIGHWAY, WESTERN BAY and from where the funeral will take place on Saturday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. from Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, Northern Bay. Interment in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic cemetery , Western Bay. Predeceased by first husband Pierce Hindy (1964) and second husband Stuart Rockwood (1992), sons-in-law Leslie Stansford (1978) and Thomas Downey (March 2003). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, Velma Downey, Elsie Stansford, Doris Pryor (Ernie), Glenys Tuck (Larry), Robert Hindy (Debbie), Geraldine Harris (Don), Cyril Hindy (Audrey), Stanley Warren (Emma), Ruth Rowe (Doug), Barbara Pye (Tom) and Claude Rockwood (Ruby); 25 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Green`s Funeral Home, Winterton. Visiting hours Sunday 7-10 p.m., Monday 10 a.m.-12 p.m., 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m., and Tuesday 10 a.m.-12 noon. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. from the Salvation Army Lower Trinity South Corp. and cemetery . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Trinity South Corps Sunday School.

LANDELLS, Elizabeth (nee Cullen) - Passed peacefully away, after a courageous 33 year battle with breast cancer, at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Clare`s Hospital, on June 20, 2001, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents Stan and Matilda (O`Driscoll) Cullen; her brothers: Stan and Bob Cullen; and sister Peg Renouf. She leaves to mourn her husband of 50 years, Dr. David Landells; sons: Colin (D`Arcy) and Ian (Lisa); and her grandchildren: Catherine, Graham, Fiona and Elizabeth. She will also be sorely missed by dear family and friends in Newfoundland and around the world. Betty was born in St. John`s on July 23, 1923 and received her education at the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy and Memorial College. She selflessly dedicated her life to her husband and family, and her kindness and empathy touched the lives of many over the years. Her family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jennifer Hall, the staff of the Palliative Care Unit and the nurses of TLC. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation hours are from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at 9:45 a.m. from St. Pius X Church. Left with fond and loving memories, sons: Claude Jr. and Martin (Beverley), St. John`s; two grandchildren: Steven and Jenni; brother-in-law Allan Jerrett; niece Jean Gosse (Eugene); also other nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Special thank-you to the staff of St. Luke`s Nursing Home for their extraordinary care and support. Predeceased by his grandchildren George Harold, Robert Edward, and Roberta Kimberley. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Effie of 62 years; daughter Jessie Lachouich (Arthur), Sarnia ON; son Harold (Grace), Clarenville; two brothers Ernest (Annie), and Allan (Beatrice), both of Green`s Harbour; two step-grandchildren, Tina Spurrell (Mike), and Corina (Robin); one great-granddaughter, Jailen; and a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer`s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service will take place 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 from Memorial United Church, Clarenville with interment at United cemetery , Clarenville.
