B.A. Nursing Passed away suddenly on Sunday May 22, 2016 at the age 47 years. Leaving to mourn her loving daughter Erin, her parents Roy and Beverly Manuel, her sister Heather (Max Burke), brother Lewis Manuel, and nephew Benjamin, aunts, uncles and a large circle of friends. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. A private funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the S.P.C.A.
Holwell, James Edgar
James Edgar Holwell Passed peacefully away, May 22nd 2016, Jim Holwell at the age of 88 years old. Leaving to mourn his wife of 51 years, Carrie Holwell(Froud), his son Darin Holwell(Michelle), and Grandson Stephen Holwell. The family would like to send a special thank you to the PCU of the Miller Center for their care and compassion. A private funeral will be held on Saturday May 28th with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery Kenmount Road. Flowers gratefully accepted.
Quinton, Laura Blanche
Passed away suddenly on May 23rd, 2016 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, Laura Blanche Quinton formerly from Red Cliff, Bonavista Bay. Pre deceased by her sister Eileen. Leaving to mourn her sister Sarah, sisters in law Hilda (Gerald deceased), Dorothy (Dolph deceased), nieces Karen Quinton (Terry Mudry), Glenys Russell (Randy Knapp), nephews Leith Quinton (Rebecca), Gerry Russell (Bernice), David Quinton (Francoise), Don Quinton (Donna) and many more family and friends. Blanche (who preferred to be called Laura in her later years) spent most of her working life at the Bank of Commerce MUN Campus in St. John’s, then in the Gold Department in Toronto for over 20 years. Laura moved home to her beloved province upon retirement where she continued to enjoy music and art. She was an avid reader and always ready for a good debate, whether it was politics or questioning the meaning of life! Laura was a strong, regular giver to many worthwhile charities. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Michael’s Church Fund in Red Cliff or a charity of one’s choice.

Mate Florence M. 1936 - 2016 Passed peacefully away surrounded by her thankful family on May 24th, 2016. Predeceased by her parents Carl and Elizabeth Hooper and sister Alma. Leaving with fond and loving memories husband Bishop Martin; daughters: Carolyn (Dean) Tilley, Elizabeth (Betty) (Bruce) Downer and Phyllis (Paul - deceased) and sons John (Stephanie) and Carl (Laura); grandchildren: Evan and Olivia Tilley, Bethany, Matthew and Melanie Downer, Samson Mate, Gabriella (Ella) and Lucas Mate; brother, Clarence (Joan); brother-in-law, Max (Myrtle) and sister-in-law, Violet (Harvey - deceased). Florence leaves a large circle of friends including her nursing General Hospital class of '62 clergy wives and quilters. Special thanks to the staff at Tiffany Village and St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for the care and attention shown to Florence. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, May 26th, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Passed peacefully away surrounded by her family at the Leonard A. Miller Centre on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, Mary Melovene Wells (nee Ryall). Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Leaving to mourn husband of 60 years Lewis John (Jack) Wells; sons David (Sheila) Wells, Jack (Ruby) Wells; daughters Michelle Wells (Ford Pollard), Yvonne (Tom) Windsor; 8 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Pre deceased by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth Ryall. Passed away from natural causes Gerald (Jed) Long, aged 60 years. Predeceased by his parents Robert (Bob) Long and Rose James, and his brother Eddie. Leaving a tonne of memories for his brother and friend Gene; loving sister Valerie Long (Geoff Parsons); special niece Rosie Long Decter and her mom Ann Decter; nephew Robert Simpson; aunt Joan James; numerous other relatives, and a large crowd of friends. Originally from Gander, Jed was a retired employee (35 years) of Air Canada who regaled family and friends with his wit, storytelling, bad impersonations, sports trivia, great harmonies and unrelenting charm. The family will accept visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 from 5 – 9 p.m. A celebration of Jed’s life will be held at St. Teresa’s Parish Hall, Mundy Pond Rd, on Friday, June 3rd, 2016 from 7 – 9 p.m. BYOK (kazoo!). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross.

It is with great sadness the family of Robert (Bob) Carl Bursey wish to announce his peaceful passing Saturday, May 28, 2016 after a brief illness in his 66th year. Predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Ellen Bursey and brother John. Leaving to mourn his beloved wife of 48 years, Sharon (Summers), son David (Leann), daughter Jennifer (Paul) and love and joy of his life, grandsons Andrew and Ian. Brothers, Murl, Jim (Barb) and Gary (Laurie), sister in law Eileen; Bernice and Graham Carter, Arthur Summers and Betty Mills, David and Rita Summers and Doug and Hilda Summers. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and an extensive group of close friends and co-workers. We would like to extend special thanks to Dr.’s Corey Adams, Kevin Melvin, Mary O’Brien, John Tucker, Ian Marshall, Donald Fitzpatrick and Angela Pickles as well as the exceptional nursing staff at the CVICU and 5South A Units. Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital May 31, 2016, Fanny Janes, aged 85 years. Predeceased by her parents John James and Angelina Rodgers; husband Eric; brothers Hubert and Edward; and sister Marie. Leaving to mourn her devoted daughter Sharon; cherished grandchildren Crystal (Jamie), Candace, Trevor (Tara) and Eric; precious great granddaughter Lucy; sisters Alice Hoyles and Vera Blackwood; a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sincere thanks to all the staff of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their care and kindness during this sudden and tragic event.
