RITA UNA MATTHEWS

CORNER BROOK, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita Matthews announces her sudden passing on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 at her family residence at the age of 82 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her 12 children: Tom (Debbie), Corner Brook, Wayne (Winnie), Corner Brook, Ralph (Shelley), Spruce Grove, AB, Gerald (Paulette), Corner Brook, Dave (Alice), Corner Brook, Bernie (Lavern), Brampton, ON, Brian (Chrissy), Orillia, ON, Pete (Sharon), Corner Brook, Gertrude (Jim) McCarthy, Brampton, ON, John (Tereska), Brampton, ON, Marguerite (Michael) Brightman, Brampton, ON and Des, Orillia, ON; 36 grandchildren, large number of great grandchildren; one brother: Father Bernard Buckle, Curling; and sister-in-law: Eileen Buckle, Corner Brook; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; son, John; brother, Edward Buckle and parents: Bernard and Gertrude Buckle. Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Thursday evening from 7-9:00 p.m. and on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 25th at 10:30 a.m. from All Hallows Church, Humber Road. Monsignor Edwin Gale and Father Bernard Buckle officiating. Cremation to follow, with urn burial at a later date. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shepherd’s Fund.

December 4, 1944 - September 23, 2010

Curling, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late David Henry Jones announce his passing on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at his residence at the age of 65 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Doreen of 34 years; daughter Lori-Lynn Lyver (Collin); grandson Cole “Papa’s Little Man”; sister Helen Shuler (Jack), Syracuse, Indiana; brother-in-law Max Sheppard; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Jessie Jones and sister Cynthia Sheppard. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Sunday 7-9 pm and Monday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 28 at 2:00 pm from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Curling Street with Rev. Edmund Laldin officiating. Cremation to follow at Humber Valley Crematorium. As expressions of sympathy no flowers by request donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Mary’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund or a Charity of one’s choice.

HILDA CHARLOTTE (LOTTIE) PARK (nee Noseworthy)

Cox’s Cove, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hilda Charlotte Park announce her passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, September 13th, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her loving and devoted daughter: Loretta (Joey Park); her two loving sons: Alex (Mona) and Monty (Chrissy); special granddaughter: Trena (Deon Noseworthy); grandchildren: Sandy (Mary), Barry (Judy), Donald (Diane), Darren (Brenda), Rodney (Donnie), Stephen, Corinna (Bob), Shelley (Kent), Crystal and Angie; 12 great grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren: sister: Janie Keating and brother Douglas Hussey (Dinah); aunt: Jean Payne; sisters-in-law: Dallas Hussey and Florence Brake; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband: Wilson Park (Sept. 9, 1991); parents: Alex, Emma and stepfather Bill Hussey; brothers: Stewart Noseworthy (Cedella) and Alpheus Hussey; sister: Phoebe Barnes. Visitation will take place from the Pentecostal Church, Cox’s Cove on Tuesday and Wednesday from where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 16th at 2:00 p.m. Pastor David Crane officiating, followed by interment at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Pentecostal Memorial Fund or to the charity of one’s choice. The family would like to express a warm Thank you to Dr. Robert Brake and to Jocelyn Payne.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband: James; four sons: Tim (Karen), Newmarket, ON, Steve (Cait), Glen Haven, NS, Barry (Audrey), French’s Forest, Australia, and Michael (Christine), Richmond Hill, ON; grandchildren: Amanda, Charlie, Jack, Declan, Zachary and Maya; brothers and sisters: Elizabeth “Bette” (Jerry) Cooke, Pauline (Jack, deceased) Myrden, Jean (Peter) Daniels, Mike (Barb) Quigley, Tim (Georgie) Quigley, Bill (Gen) Quigley, Maxine Quigley, Maureen (Tom) Brockway, Barb (Rich) Williams and Sheila (Les) Hoyles; brother and sisters-in-law: Gerry (Mona deceased) Myrden, Dallas (Doug, deceased) Penney and Dorothy (Dave deceased) Brown; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents: Timothy and Dorothy Quigley and brother, Thomas (Bud) Quigley. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Golda Lorraine (nee Butt) Briffett

Mt. Moriah, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Goldie Briffett announce her passing after a courageous battle with cancer on the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 28th, 2011 at the age of 64 years. She was surrounded by family and her faithful dog Daisy. She was a loving wife to Orvan (45 years); proud mother of Paul (Andrea) and deeply devoted grandmother to Noah, William and Benjamin. She had a great love of family, friends, laughter, her cabin and a good day of trouting. Predeceased by her parents Ethel and John Butt; brother’s Bill, Jack and David; her three special dogs: Bimbo, Casey and Sasha. She is survived by her brothers: Kevin (Dianne), Ron (Janet) and Jim (Gerarda); sisters-in-law: Lorraine Butt and Helen Butt; brothers-in-law: Wins Briffett (Elvie), Gus Briffett (Ruby) and sisters-in-law: Geraldine Powell (Jack) and Maisie Arnold (Lyndon); as well as a large circle of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, family and friends and special great niece Alicia Park (Nan loves you). Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Tuesday evening, 7-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 31st at 10:30 A.M. from Sacred Heart Church, Father Ambrose Hynes officiating. Emma Broomfield
1931-2011

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Emma Broomfield announce her passing on March 13th, 2011 at the Labrador Grenfell Health Facility at the age of 79 years. She will be sadly missed by her children: Margaret (Junior), Baun “Hayward” (Violet), Norman, Todd (Ruth), Lavern (Joan), Wayne (Tracy), and Elsie; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by husband Eldred, and son Brent. Friends may visit the Moravian Church, Mokkovik from where the funeral service will be held on March 16th at 2:00 PM.

Freeman Strickland

Burgeo, NL - Passed away on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Freeman Strickland of Burgeo at the age of 74 years. Friends may visit St. John The Evangelist church in Burgeo on Thursday evening and Friday from where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 2:00 p.m. Reverend George Childs officiating, followed by interment at the Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

William Michael (Bill) Park
October 23, 1932 - July 18, 2004

St. Andrew's, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late William Park announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 18th, 2004 at the age of 71 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving family & friends. Leaving to mourn his sister Florence Hektor, Toronto, ON; brother-in-law Leo Foley, Stephenville Crossing; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Agnes Park; sisters: Margaret McDonald (Michael), Dorothy Keough (Henry), Elizabeth Rochek (Tony) and Mary Foley; step-brother Jim Young (Helen); brother-in-law Peter Hektor; and nephew John MacDonald. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Wednesday, July 21st at 1:30 p.m. from where the Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Officiated by Fr. Bernard Buckle. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to The Lung Association of NL or The Kidney Foundation of NL.

Joseph Thomas George
1952-2011

Passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 Joseph Thomas George at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 58. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years, Donna (nee:Hall), son Joseph (Michelle); sisters & brothers: Joyce George, North Bay, ON, Marie Hutchings (Bill), Curling, Frank George (Barbara), Corner Brook, Helen Meaney (Jerome), Pasadena, Pat George (Gloria), Mt. Pearl, Ed George (Jill), Corner Brook, Tom George (Ruth), Stephenville, and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his sister Ann Ryan (Mike) and parents Thomas & Mary George. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 10th at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Benoits Cove Father Bernard Buckle officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 218 Curling Street Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2- 4 & 7-9 p.m. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to ALS Society of Newfoundland & Labrador.
