HOWELL, Ethel – In loving memory of Ethel Howell, age 87. Passed peacefully away on September 15, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. Predeceased by her husband Eldon (1991) . Leaving to mourn with fond memories, sisters and brother: Emily, Robie (Howard) and Lindbergh; daughters: Vera (Vic, Valerie, Vanessa), Frances (Wayne, Jill, Jana, Kara, Jonathan) and Judy (Gary, Jeremy, Amy); sons: Leonard (Sharon, Judy, Tyron), Winston (Geraldine, Jacqueline, Stephanie) and Roy (Kay, Kirk, Mark, Gregory); and 12 great-grandchildren: Nicolle, Ellen, Jordan, Hilary, Coady, Taylor, Ethan, Brooke, Nathan, Kate, Leah and Ella. Resting at Hopkins Funeral Home, Old Perlican, friends and family are welcome to visit. Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 on September 18th 2007 at St. Andrews By The Sea United Church, Old Perlican. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to "The Lift Fund", St. Andrews By The Sea.

MAY, Phyllis – Passed peacefully away at Clarke’s Beach Pentecostal Senior Citizen’s home on Sunday, September 16, 2007, Phyllis May of Bay Roberts, aged 78 years. Predeceased by her parents Simon and Annie Ivany (nee-Garland) and brother William G. Ivany. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Eric of 52 years, sons Eric (Jean), Robert (Rowena), and David (Liz) . Sisters, Dolores (Realf) Saxton, Mary (Walter) Finch. Brothers Gerard (Dulcie), Raymond (Mary), and Doug (Dorothy) . Grandchildren, Erin (Justin), Allison, Ericka, Rebecca, Nicholas, and Jonas. Great-grandchild Leah, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Special thanks to Verna Bowering for all her care and support, as well as to all of Phyllis’s caregivers over the last number of years. Visitation will take place at Moore’s Funeral Home, Bay Roberts 2 PM - 5 PM; 7 PM - 9 PM, Tuesday, September 18, 2007, 10 AM - 12 Noon, Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Funeral Mass 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2007 from the Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, Bay Roberts. Cremation has taken place. Interment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

McGRATH, Jack – Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander on Saturday, September 15, 2007, Jack McGrath aged 83 years. Predeceased by his wife Martina (1999) . Leaving to mourn his daughter Marlyce Greene (Arthur) of Gander and son Tony (Linda) of Dartmouth NS; his grandchildren Martina, Daniel and Shannon Greene and Aaron, Sarah, Keegan and Michaela McGrath; his two sisters, Anna Cotter of Melrose TB and Catherine Foley of Grand Falls-Windsor; his brother Patrick of Grand Falls – Windsor; brother in law Urban Williams of Shoe Cove; special nephew Andrew Williams of Conception Bay South and many other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road on Tuesday, September 18th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Torbay Road on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 9:30 am with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

SQUIRES, Mary M. – Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex on Sunday, September 16, 2007, Mary M. Squires age 85 years of St. John’s, formerly of St. Philip’s. Predeceased by her husband Raymond Squires in October 1989. Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life, two daughters; Dallas Barnes (Ches) St. John’s; Eleanor Tucker (Barry) of St. Philip’s. Two sons Winston (Ena) of St. Philip’s; Clifton (Lela) in Vancouver; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one sister Ethal Tucker (Charlie) . Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Tuesday September 18, 2007, from 2 pm-4 pm and 7 pm-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, St. Philip’s. In liue of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

TRAINOR, William J – Passed peacefully away at his home in Port Kirwan, Fermeuse on Thursday, September 13, 2007, aged 75 years. Predeceased by his parents James and Catherine Trainor, brothers Dennis and Michael Trainor and brother-in-law Jack Power. Leaving to mourn three daughters Kathleen (Richard) Chenette, Helen (Vern) Bolton, Patricia, son Shawn (Lindy), two grandsons Kurtis and Matthew. Two sisters Mary (Patrick) Fennelly and Winnie Power. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Fahey’s Funeral home, Fermeuse. Visitation on Sunday, September 16, 7-9 PM, Monday, September 17 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday September 18 at 10:30 AM from St. Charles Borromeo Church, Fermeuse. Cremation to follow private inurnment.

CLENCH, Raymond – Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Monday, September 17, 2007, Raymond Clench of Shoal Harbour, aged 87 years. Predeceased by wife Dollie; son Billy; grandson David Ploughman. Left with fond and loving memories his daughters: Edna Ploughman (Bob), Verna Pelley (Brian), Velma Percy (Roy); sons: David (Juanita), Don (Audrey Ann), Charlie; daughter-in-law Betty Osmond; special friend Dolly Peddle; special sister, Barbara Warren; sister Florence Tuck (Baxter); brothers: Alex Clench (Ruby) Ed Clench (Phyllis); fifteen grandchildren: six great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Visitation Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the United Church, Shoal Harbour with interment to follow at the United Cemetery, Church Road, Shoal Harbour. In his memory, flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Daffodil Place, St. John’s.

LAHEY, Shirley Elizabeth – 1929 -2007 - Passed peacefully away on September 15, 2007, Shirley Lahey, at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Center, at the age of 77 years old. Shirley is predeceased by her husband Peter (July 1, 2002); parents, John and Martha Lewis of Deer Lake; brother Wilson Lewis; mother and father-in-law. Patrick and Emeline Lahey; special sister-in-law Mary O’Reilly; brothers-in-law: Patrick O’Reilly, Ambrose Morgan, and Walter Morgan of Bishop’s Falls. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons: Patrick (Karen) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Ronald of Bishop’s Falls; daughters: Emeline (Freeman Rideout) and Denise of Bishop’s Falls and Mary of Bishop’s Falls; also leaving to mourn her brothers: Raymond (Ena) Lewis and Otto (Olive) Lewis, both of Deer Lake; brother-in-law Ronald (Theresa); sisters-in-law: Josephine and Julie Morgan. Father Linus Coady conducted the funeral service at the Sacred Heart Church in Bishop’s Falls, on September 18, 2007. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were Tony Morgan, Leo Morgan, Neil O’Reilly, Johnny Roberts, Ron Lahey and Lindsey Williams. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

LIDSTONE, Edith C. – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on September 17, 2007, Edith C. Lidstone, aged 74 years. Predeceased by her husband Edward Charles, 2002. Leaving to mourn sons: Frank (Patricia), Dan (Judy), Paul (Sue), Gordon (Kim); daughters: Edith, Debbie, Gail (Tom), Laurie (Steve); grandchildren: Darryl, Gary (Danielle), Frank (Melissa), Matthew, Jadah L., Christopher, Matthew D. Angela, Jessica, Jennifer, Michael and Brandon; great-granddaughter Natalie; special niece Barbara Vinicomb; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.; on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service on Friday, September 21, 2007 from Barrett’s Chapel at a time to be announced. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to Wesley United Church.
