HOLLYWOOD, Eileen T. – Passed peacefully away at her home in St. Lawrence Wednesday, September 5, 2007, Eileen Hollywood of St. Lawrence in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Brian Hollywood. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sister Maureen Yule of Dublin, Ireland; sister-in-law Philomena (Patrick) Carville; brothers-in-law: Patrick (Patricia), Raymond (Pat) and Kevin Hollywood; long time close friends: Blanche Slaney, Irene Stacey, and Rosalee Dupree; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral Mass took place at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church Saturday, September 8, at 2 p.m. Cremation followed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

KEAN, Job – Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Captain Job Kean, aged 77 years. Predeceased by his wife Theresa; brother George; sisters: Doris, Virtue and Vera. Leaving to mourn sisters: Julie and Patsy; son Charlie (Bonnie); daughters: Julie (Russell), Lydia (Craig), Joanne, Philly and Carol; seven grandchildren and a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. Visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held from Corpus Christi Church on Monday, September 17, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted.

KNEE, Augustus – (December 12, 1909 - September 13, 2007) : Passed away at 2 East, Escasoni on September 13, 2007 in his 98th year, formerly of Badgers Quay, Bonavista Bay. Predeceased by his wife Margaret (Humphries), 1999; infant son Wilson; brothers: Frederick, Edgar and Samuel. Left to mourn two daughters: Ruth Sim (Richard), Boiling Springs, NC and Katie Haws, St. John’s; one son Jack (Lottie), Gander; seven gradchildren: Gerald, Fla., Richard, Mary, Cathy, Jean, NC, Derrick, Gander and Jim, ON; sister, Mary Acreman, Mary’s Harbour, Lab; several nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service on Monday, September 17, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Augustus’ memory to the St. Alban’s Anglican Cemetery Fund, Badgers Quay or St. Augustine’s Anglican Church or to a charity of one’s choice.

KOSKI, Dr. George R. – In loving memory of George R. Koski, 70 years, who passed away peacefully, September 14, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. Son of the late Reino Koski and the late Martha Liekki (nee Laine) . Beloved partner and best friend of Doreen Scott. Loving father of Christopher (Eva Janssens), Lisa (Marshall Melnychuk), David and Jordy. Loving grandfather of Sarah and Luke. Loving brother of Helen Koski and Allan Paananen (Anne Marie) . Sadly missed by many cousins, nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces in Canada and Finland, and extended family comprising the Gainers and Bouchards. George was formerly a Professor in the Faculty of Education of Memorial University in St. John’s, NL. He began his working life as a mining technician in Elliot Lake after graduating from Haileybury Mining School. However, George felt that his future lay in the field of higher education and ultimately attained the level of PhD at Michigan State University. To George, life itself was a continuing learning experience. In his younger days George was an accomplished athlete in paddling, swimming, basketball and track & field. A love of gardening and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays replaced athletic prowess in his senior years. Having lived on both coasts of Canada he chose to return to his beloved Sudbury where his roots lay and felt he belonged. He shared a loving relationship with Doreen on the shores of Lake Ramsey. With his giving and generous spirit he influenced all who knew him. In spite of continuing medical adversity he had a great strength of character and stoicism. This allowed him to live each day to its fullest and remark “Life is good.” A celebration of George’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 111 Larch Street, Sudbury, Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 11 a.m. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lupus Foundation, c/o Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury P3B 1M2 or online at lougheed.org (Friends may gather at the church after 10:45 a.m. Tuesday) .

MELTON, James Russell – Suddenly, after a brief illness, at his home in Oakville, Ontario, on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at the age of 16 years. Beloved son of Donna of Oakville and William and his wife Victoria of New York City. Loving brother of Siân and Erik of Oakville. Dearly loved grandson of William and Anne Battcock of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Betty of Kansas City and the late Woody Melton. James will also be missed by a loving circle of aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as by his fellow students at St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School in Oakville. Family and friends will be received Saturday, September 15, 2007 at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, 1150 Monks Passage in Oakville from 9 a.m. until Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Ignatius of Loyola Social Justice Club, 1550 Nottinghill Gate, Oakville, Ontario L6M 1S2 would be appreciated by the family. O’TOOLE, Jeremiah Michael — Passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 13th, 2007 at his late residence in Holyrood, Jeremiah O’Toole (Jerry) in his 64th year. Predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Jeremiah O’Toole. Left with fond and loving memories are his devoted wife of 37 years, Anne (nee Barron), his daughter, Janette (Leo) Patterson, Fort MacMurray, AB, grandchildren: Caitlyn and Jordan Patterson, his son Sean, his sisters: Mary (Bob) Threeton, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Maureen Beck, St. John’s, his sister-in-law: Linda (Francis) Costigan, his brother-in-law: Frank (Mary) Barron, all at Holyrood, numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation on Saturday from 7 - 9 p.m. and from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m.. on Monday, September 17th, 2007 with Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Cross Church, Holyrood. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will be in the family plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, St. John’s.

PRITCHETT, Kenneth Reginald – Passed away unexpectedly at Glenwood on September 12, 2007, Kenneth Reginald Pritchett at the age of 73. He leaves to mourn his wife Rita (nee Warren); five daughters: Melissa Pritchett (Richard) of Alberta, Marina John (Roger) of Glenwood, Christine Burt (Steven) of Alberta, Bernice Pritchett of Gander and Yvonne DeCaire (Leon) of Winnipeg; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters: Beaulah Horlick (Gordon) of Dunville, Louise Pritchett (Bruce) of Gambo, Faye Butler (Jack) of Alberta and Linda Dwyer (Jack) of Gambo; and one brother Augustus Pritchett (Nell) of Gambo. Predeceased by his parents, Annie and Augustus Pritchett; brother Nathan Pritchett (Shirley); sister Zita Noseworthy (Jim) and brother Baxter Pritchett (Phyllis) . Open for viewing at Anglican Church in Glenwood from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Friday, September 14th and Saturday, September 15, 2007 and also in Gambo at Pritchett’s Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2007. Memorial Service at the Anglican Church in Gambo on Sunday, September 16th at 2 p.m.

RYAN, Dennis Joseph – 4 Bruce Blvd. (Dee’s Variety), Stephenville (formerly of St. John’s) . It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dennis Joseph Ryan announce his passing at Stephenville on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the age of 60 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Judy and two daughters: Deanne Ryan and her two children: Branden and Heidi of Stephenville, Dana (Philip) Combden and son Ryan of Bristol’s Hope/Harbour Grace; brother Ron Ryan and sister Elizabeth Hollett, both of St. John’s and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Gregory and Josephine Ryan of St. Brendan’s Island, Bonavista Bay; brothers: Kevin and Tom Ryan of St. John’s. Friends may call at Russell’s Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, September 17th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Parish, West Street, Stephenville with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. STENTAFORD, Ralph Seymour – Passed away peacefully on August 25, 2007 at age 85. Surrounded by his loving family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in Oshawa, ON. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth of Whitby, ON. Dear father of Dianne Stentaford of Toronto, ON, Gerry Stentaford and his wife Wendy of Oshawa, ON and Evelyn and her husband Peter Gorus of Brooklin, ON. He will be truly missed by his grandchildren: Brent, Brad and Bryan Gorus and Nathan and Aaron Stentaford. Beloved brother of Ruth Pike of St. John’s, NL. A memorial service will be held at Victoria United Church Cemetery, Victoria, NL on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations to the Parkinson’s Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
