CROUCHER, John Edgar ­ Born in Battle Harbour, Labrador, February 19, 1917. Passed peacefully away April 11, 1997, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Predeceased by his wife Hazel (Stone); sons: Victor and Roy. He was a Retired Blaster for Wabush Mines, Wabush. Leaving to mourn daughters: Dora (Clifford Strangemore) of Main Brook, June (Thomas Astle) of Astle, NB, Lillian (Russell Corey) of Wabush, Labrador; and sons: CWO Rod (Peggy) of Noonan, Carl (Debbie) of Fredericton, NB; two daughters-in-law: Shirley (Victor) of Oromocto and Daisy (Roy) of St. Johns; two sisters: Margaret (Jim White) of Chamberlains, and Mabel (Carl Peterson) of Pasadena; brothers: Victor (Anne) of Harbour Grace, George (Jesse) of Burlington, Ont., Graham of Botwood, Adolphus of Grand Falls, Bruce (Dorcas) of Lewisporte, Keith (Josie) of Burlington; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a number of friends and relatives. Resting at James J. Hickey's Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews, Nfld., on Sunday, April 13, between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Funeral from All Saints Anglican Church, Foxtrap, with Rev. Robin Barrett officiating. Interment at the Anglican cemetery, Foxtrap, at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14. Donations may be made to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation.

DOYLE, Gerald Joseph ­ Passed peacefully away after a short illness at the Health Sciences Centre on Friday, April 11, 1997, Gerald Joseph Doyle, retired member of the Canadian Forces, age 68 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Mary (nee Curtis); three sons: Frank, Michael (Angela), Kevin; two daughters: Ann Marie Farmer (Brad), and Sheila; three grandchildren; brother Bernard (Patricia); sister Maureen Fahey (Larry); sister-in-law Joan Ducey; also other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Funeral Mass on Monday, April 14th, 1997 at 9:30 A.M. from Mary Queen of Peace Church. Interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. GREEN, Marjorie ­ Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, April 10, 1997, Marjorie Green of Carbonear, age 77 years. Predeceased by husband J. Maxwell, 1994. Leaving to mourn: two daughters: Patricia (Clarence) Baldwin, Victoria and Margaret (Eugene) Buckle, Labrador City; two sons: Gary (Genevieve), Mount Pearl and Marvin (Triffie), Carbonear; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Garlie Parsons, Masonic Park, Mount Pearl and Alma (Bonnell) Pilgrim, Carbonear; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at NOEL'S FUNERAL HOME, WATER STREET, CARBONEAR until 12:00 noon Sunday, April 13, 1997. Funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church and cemetery, Carbonear. HAINES, Edgar Earl ­ In sorrow for the loss of a father, brother, uncle and friend, but in thanksgiving for the gift of his presence in our lives, the family of the late Edgar Earl Haines wish to announce his passing on Wednesday, April 2, 1997, one day before his 77th birthday. A veteran of W.W. II, Earl died peacefully at the Caribou Memorial Pavillion, Miller Centre, St. John's. He leaves to mourn one daughter, Winnifred (Edward), and four grandchildren; two brothers: George (Edna), Kelligrews; Harry, Masonic Lodge, St. John's; one sister, Mac Bailey (Ted), Sackville, N.B.; one sister-in-law Carrie Haines, Kelligrews; and many loving nieces and nephews especially Dallas, Dora, Paul and Arnold. Mourning his loss also are the Follett, Porter and Adams families, Byrant's Cove, who were his special, devoted friends for many years. Burial was from Young's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay, with interment at Byrant's Cove cemetery. May he rest in the peace of Christ.

HANCOCK, Robert John ­ Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, April 9, 1997, Robert J. Hancock, age 75 years. A Veteran of World War II and long time employee, now retired, with the C.N.R. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife Mary (Gardner); sons: Fred (Anne), Doug (Margie); daughters: Marion (Ian Janes) and Helen (Jim Ryan); sister Isabel Clark; brother-in-law Arthur Gardner (Minnie); sister-in-law Jean Gardner; his loving grandchildren: Cynthia (Shawn Seward), Robert Janes, Vicki, Jeffrey and David Hancock, Sandy, Erin, Jennifer and Jimmy Ryan; also many other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2-4 and 7-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday. Funeral Service from St. Thomas' Anglican Church on Saturday, April 12, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the Anglican cemetery, Forest Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada.

HAYES, Laurence V. ­ Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, April 9th, 1997 at the Health Sciences Center, Laurence V. (Lar) Hayes in his 80th year, retired C.N.R. Locomotive Engineer. Predeceased by his wife Alice (nee Monck), 1975. Leaving to mourn his loving daughter Rita Barrington (Ed); two grandsons: Ted (Annette) and Larry; sister Joan Dunphy, Mass.; and a very special friend and companion, Mary Kiss and her family; also many nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses of the C.C.U. at the Health Sciences Center for their care, kindness and consideration. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. Funeral Mass on Saturday, April 12th, 1997 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa's Church. Interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. PIKE, (nee Noseworthy) Doris G. ­ Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, April 8, 1997 Doris G. (nee Noseworthy) Pike of Harbour Grace, age 91 years. Predeceased by husband, Lorenzo and son, David. Leaving to mourn son, Philip (Babs); grandson, Rory (Kim); great-granddaughters: Sarah and Victoria; daughter-in-law, Sandra; Raymond "Nipsy" Perry and family; and also a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace until 12:00 noon Friday, April 11. Funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. from the Coughlan Memorial United Church and cemetery, Harbour Grace. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife Joan (Donnelly); four daughters: Patsy (Fred Reddy), Maureen (Jim Barron) of Nanaimo, B.C., Donna (friend Campbell), Sharon (Gerard Hayes), all of St. John's; 8 grandchildren: Dawn, Krista, Danielle and Karl Reddy, Christopher Barron, Dana and Colin Hutchings, Courtney Hayes; two brothers: William (Phyllis), Jim (friend Lillian); three sisters: Mary (Orville Britain), Colorado Springs, Margaret (Jim Kennedy), Anne Joyce, St. John's; brothers-in-law: Bill Donnelly (Phyllis), Ont., David Dunne (Betty), Mt. Pearl; and sister-in-law Betty Simpson, N.S.; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home. Funeral will be held from Corpus Christi Church on Monday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. RALPH, Howard ­ Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on Tuesday, April 8, 1997, Howard Ralph, age 79 years. Left with fond and loving memories: His wife May and three daughters: Millicent (husband Gerald Oldford, Salvage); Patricia (husband Albert Oldford, Port Blandford), Ruth (husband David Ralph, Gander); grandchildren: Roxanne (Baxter Babstock), Dean (Renee), and Kent Oldford, Todd (Tracy), Craig (Brenda), and Patti Oldford, Dustin and David Ralph; one great-grandchild, Emily Babstock; two brothers: Donald in Burnside and Claude (Grace) in St. John's; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Burnside, April 10, 1997. Interment at the Anglican cemetery in Burnside, NF.

SHUTE­ Linda L., age 47. Passed suddenly away March 31, 1997 at the Capt. William Jackman Hospital, Labrador City. Predeceased by her parents Francis and Stella Barron. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories husband Gary; daughter Marrium; sons Robert and Randell; sisters Grace Fagan and Judy Higgins; brothers Frank and Paul Barron; father and mother-in-law Alistair and May Shute; brother-in-law Glenn Shute. Funeral service took place April 4th at Labrador City - Archdeacon Francis Buckle officiated.

WILLIAMS, Hilda ­ Passed peacefully away, after a short illness, at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, April 9th, 1997, Hilda Williams in her 84th year, of Holyrood. Predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1987. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her three daughters: Shirley Cronin (Mike), Upper Gullies, Bridget Walsh (William), London, Ont., Carmelita (Tom), with whom she resided; her two sons: Cyril (Bud), Edmonton, Alb., Lawrence (Angela), Holyrood; her six grandchildren: Neil, Dion, Chris, Blair, Michael, and Renee. Also leaving to mourn her brother Alban Barnes, Montreal; and her sister, Annie Nash, St. John's; also a circle of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the CCU staff at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association. Resting at Dunphy's Funeral Home, Holyrood. Funeral will take place on Saturday, April 12th, 1997 following 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Cross Church, Holyrood. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Holyrood. WISEMAN, Agnes ­ Passed peacefully away at St. Clares Mercy Hospital, St. John's on Thursday, April 10, 1997 in the presence of her family, Agnes L. Wiseman of Musgravetown, aged 70 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband Chesley; six sons: James (Lilas), Gander, Marvin (Edna), Bloomfield, Gerald (Mary), Rogers Cove, Gander Bay, Roland (Eleanor), Campbellton, Hedley (Joan), Musgravetown, and Enos (Vicki), Fall River, N.S.; one daughter Cynthia Matthews (Gary), Musgravetown; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; three sisters: Ethel Moss, Cannings Cove, Myra Oldford, St. John's and Pearl Hickman (Lloyd), St. John's; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer's Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 1997 from Salvation Army Citadel, Musgravetown with interment at Salvation Army cemetery, Musgravetown.

CARBAGE, Frances ­ It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frances Carbage announce her passing on April 15th, 1997 at the Dr. Walter Templeman Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, age 67 years. Predeceased by husband Vincent in 1983. Left with fond and loving memories, three children: Tina King (Gary), Bob (Brenda), both of Bell Island, Michael (Ruby), Waterloo, Ont.; one sister Elizabeth Rose, Bell Island; two brothers: Martin Butler, Labrador City and Walter Butler, Niagara Falls; two sisters-in-law: Sr. Mary Regina, Mercy Convent and Mrs. Vicky Carbage; 7 grandchildren: Amanda, Michael, Daniel, Dennis, Justine, Robert, Christopher. She will also be greatly missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Resting at Pendergast's Funeral Home. Funeral Mass on Friday, April 18th, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment in the Roman Catholic cemetery, Bell Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Walter Templeman Hospital or St. Michael's Parish, Bell Island.
