PENDERGAST, Michael Francis – Age 78 years. Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex on October 1, 2007 after a brief illness. Predeceased by his loving daughter Sandra (1995) . Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 51 years Elsie; five children: Wendy (Noel) Kavanagh, Glenn (Hilda), Randy (Cheryl), Rosalie (Harry) French and Brian (Enid); eleven grandchildren: Michelle, Danielle, Corina, Jason, Christopher, Matthew, Andrew, Paul, Angie, Shawn and Vanessa; three great-grandchildren: Bradley, Jayden and Breanna; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Tuesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Thursday, October 4th, 2007 at 11 a.m. from Holy Rosary Church, Portugal Cove. Cremation to follow.

SMITH, Rhodie H. – Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on September 30, 2007, Mr. Rhodie H. Smith of Bishop’s Cove, aged 85 years. Predeceased by wife Mary, daughter Flora, son Rhodie. Left with fond and loving memories his son Cyril (Jean) Smith of Bishop’s Cove; daughters Blanche (Ron) Robicheau of Nova Scotia; Joan (Clayton) Stone of Ontario; daughter-in-law Sherry Smith of Bishop’s Cove; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; special friends Winston and Lena Smith; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Young’s Funeral Home, Spaniard’s Bay. Funeral Service Wednesday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m., St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, Bishop’s Cove., with interment to follow at St. John The Evangelist Anglican cemetery, Bishop’s Cove, NL. It his memory, flowers are accepted or donations may be made to St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church in his memory.

SWYERS, Millicent – Passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, aged 83 years. Predeceased by husband Charlie (2003), daughter Debbie (1980), son Terry (1998) and brother Heber John (2005) . Left with loving memories, son Jim (Eliza), daughter-in-law Marjorie; grandchildren: Debra, Victoria, Lora and Jamie (Pauline); great-grandson Jordan; sister-in-law Gertie and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation at Strathie’s Funeral Home, Bonavista from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Tuesday, October 2nd. Service at Memorial United Church, Bonavista, 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007.

TRASK, Maxwell Watson William (Bill) – Newfoundland Baseball Hall of Fame. Passed peacefully away to the great baseball diamond on Monday, October 1, 2007, William Watson Maxwell Trask, formerly of Grand Falls, aged 71 years. Predeceased by parents Charles and Amelia; brothers Heber, Charles, Ralph; and sister Gertrude. Leaving to mourn loving wife of 50 years Lossie, daughters: Anne (John Ball), Patricia (Douglas Goodyear), Karen (Kevin Walker), Kathy and Sandra (Blue Lake); son David (Sharon Porter-Trask); four grandchildren Johnathon (Janine), Micheal, Beth Anne (Bill), and Laura (Paul); one sister Edna Bradley of Jamaica; special nephew Roy (Eleanor) of Ontario; life long friends Eric and Isabell Cumby, Dick and Jan Duder, Wayne and Peg Yarn and Marvin and Grace Pitts, as well as a circle of family and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Topsail United Church on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Interfaith Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Bill’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

FOWLER, Elizabeth – Passed peacefully away on Monday, October 1, 2007, age 48 years, of Chamberlains. Predeceased by her mother Marie (2002), mother-in-law Doris (2002) . Left with fond and loving memories her husband Jim; son Matthew (Megan); daughter Ashley; father Lloyd (Bridget); brothers: Wayne, David (Debbie), Kenneth (Beverley), Brian (Michelle); twin sister Charmaine; father-in-law James (Ada); sisters-in-law Gertie (Norman), Joyce (Matt) . Also, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Wednesday 7-9 p.m., Thursday 10-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in St. John the Evangelist Church, Topsail on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery, Topsail. Donations may be made to the Fowler Education Fund.

FRYE, Lily – It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lily Frye, age 83, from Summerville, at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on October 1, 2007. Predeceased by husband John, twin sons, sister Eva Humby and brother Albion Humby. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are her sons: Adrian (Norma) and Scott (Nellie); daughters: Loretta Mews (Bill- deceased) and Sharon Quinton (Dave Oakley); grandchildren: Kelly, Tammy, Tanya, Justin, Crystal, Kayla and Jessica; great-grandchildren: Alaina, Marlena and Rhea; brother James Humby (Florence); sister Laura Rogers; sister-in-law Jenny Humby and many other relatives and friends. Resting at the St. Marks Anglican Church, Summerville, from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Valerie Gillam will take place on Thursday, October 4, 2007 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

GREENE, Michael (1918-2007) – Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home on October 2, 2007 in the presence of his family, Michael Greene of Tilting, Fogo Island. Predeceased by his wife Marie in June 2000. Left with fond memories, his six sons: Leo, Len, Harold (Helen), Brendan (Linda), Aidan (Mercedes), Brian (Peggy); three daughters: Bernadette Linehan, Karen McGrath (Jim), Loretta Robinson; 16 grandchildren: Michael, Stephen, Stephanie, Nancy, Jessica, Jill, Curtis, Sarah, Meghan, Mary Claire, Colin, Corey, Leah, Amy, Sinead, Scott; one brother Harold (Ann); two sisters, Madeline St. Croix, and Sister Patrick Mary; one sister-in-law Theresa Salvas (Paul); also a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Resting at Fogo Island Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church on Friday, October 5.

MACKEY, James Joseph (1931-2007) – Passed peacefully away at the L.A. Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit on October 2nd, 2007 at the age of 76. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Catherine; his brothers: Pete, Pat, Leo and Frank; sisters: Bridgette and Joan and his little canine buddy Cuddles. Leaving to mourn his wife and best friend of 55 years Mary (Finn); his seven children: Cindy (Jim Devereaux), Gail (Len Bussey), Rick (Carol Anne), Rhonda, Cathy (Ches Smith), Donna (Keith Greaves) and Jimmy (Dawn); sixteen grandchildren: Kevin and Amanda Kerwin, Petrina, Melissa, Scott and Mackenzie Bussey, Erin Makcey, David, Christopher and James (J.J.) Fifield, Patrick, Trevor and Kristina Hurley, Tyler Snow, Heather Mackey and Kyle Morgan; four great-grandchildren: Allana, Makayla, Hayley and Raylene; extended family member Thelma Alcock; brothers: Lawrence and David; sisters: Mary Power, Edna Duvalis and Marg Goodsell; many sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special sisters-in-law: Joan Sinnott and Betty Frampton. Jim was a very active past president and member of the Waterford Lions Club to the very end. He was also a member of many senior bowling leagues. We are sure a lot of you would remember him for the past 20 years or so as a regular caller to the VOCM Talk Shows. Through this he made many friends from all over the Island. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Wednesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral notice to be announced. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Waterford Lions Club or the Canadian Cancer Society.

MANUEL, Harry G. – Corner Brook, NL, 5 June, 1930 - 1 October, 2007. With sadness the family of Harry Manuel announce his passing on Monday, 1 October, 2007, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 51 years, Marion (nee Winsor); daughters: Vonda, Corner Brook, Irma, Halifax; sons: Gordon (Sylvia), Riverview, NB, Harold (Denise), Middle Sackville, NS and Roger (Edith), Corner Brook; grandchildren: Gregory, Andrew, Amy, Justin, Grant, Kylee and Caitlin; great-grandchild Alexander; sisters: Jean (Bert) Manuel, Doris (Lloyd) Bartlett, and a very large circle of extended family and friends. Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue, Corner Brook on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, 4 October at 2 p.m. from the First Pentecostal Church, Premier Drive. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Harry Manuel to the Gideon’s or a charity of one’s choice.
