LEGGE, R. Gordon – September 17, 1909-August 10, 2007. Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital in the presences of his family on Friday, August 10th, 2007, Gordon Legge of Cavendish in his 98th year. Predeceased by his wife Edith, parents; Eliol and Hazel, and sister Emmie Bryant. Left with fond and loving memories are his five children; Hazel (David) Legge, Cavendish, Hayward (Ruby) Legge, Cavendish, Emily (Vincent) Rogers, Paradise, Ruby (Ron-Butch) Strickland, Cavendish, and Rosalind Legge, Whiteway. Also lovingly remembered by his nine grandchildren; Geoff, Brian, Brian, Janice, Karen, Wayne, Shawn, Bob, Gary and Dwayne, and his 10 great-grandchildren, a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Cavendish United Church on Saturday, August 11th, 11 a.m. until time of funeral. The funeral service will be held from Cavendish United Church on Sunday, August 12th at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Cavendish United Cemetery. OWENS, Thomas – Our Dad, Tom Owens, in our presence, peacefully passed away at the Health Sciences Complex on Thursday, August 9, 2007; he was 89 years old. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mae on December 7, 2006, parents Thomas and Sarah (Purcell) Owens, brothers: Rhode, Albert, Mick and Pat; sisters: Maize, Geraldine (Jull) and Kit; brothers-in-law: Bob Peddigrew, Pat White, William Burton and Art Gorman; sisters-in-law Gert Owens and Rose Owens. Left to celebrate his exceptional life are his 14 children: Dan (Barb), Sylvia Kearsey (Jack), Tom (Delores), Patsy Steele (Wayne), Geraldine Owens, David (Sharon), Paul (Dianne), Bernadette Rogers, Vincent, Stephen (Joyce), Sean (Natalie), Neil (Linda), Janet Owens, Craig (Tanya); 32 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Brian and Gerry; sister Betty Gorman; sisters-in-law: Betty Owens and Ruby Owens; the Connors Family and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. DE MAN, Kenneth Rodney (Reverend Ken) – It is with deep sadness that Ken's family announces his passing on September 25, 2007, at the age of 53 years, following a courageous struggle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his previous wife Lorie Jesperson, daughter Katharine (Todd and beloved grandson Bradley) and his second wife, Linda Wilkins, and daughters Allison and Brianne. Ken is also remembered by his brother Kevin; sisters Wendy and Debbie. His girls will remember him as a "Precious Beloved Child of God." Ken started his ministry in the Portugal Cove and Bell Island Pastoral Charge in Newfoundland (1980-1983) before moving to Ontario and then back to his home province of Alberta. A Celebration of Ken's life was held on Friday, September 28, 2007, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, with Reverend Allen McPhedran officiating. Memorial donations in Ken's memory may be made to the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Foundation (designated for the Chapel), 9430-95 Street, Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta T8L 1R8. GEORGE, Alfred, John (Jack) – Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Escasoni Complex on Sunday, October 14, 2007, age 83 years. Predeceased by parents: mother Susie Brace and stepfather Archibald Brace, wife Annie, daughter Donna, son Fred and sister Leah. Leaving to mourn: son Lloyd (Marlene); daughters: Glenys Porter (Arch), Millie Gulliver (John), Evelyn Lee (Eugene), Mary Young (Gary), Gladys Quilty (Sid Hiscock), Greta (Greg Drake); twenty-two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Mildred George; sister Mary of Ontario; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Evelyn and Victor Howlett. JEWER, Howard Randolph – On Monday, October 15, 2007, his 70th birthday, Howard Randolph Jewer passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Complex, after a courageous decade-long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Predeceased by his father and mother: Wesley and Mae Jewer; brother Mervin (Pauline); father and mother-in-law: James and Elizabeth Coates. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Edna (nee Coates); sons: Paul (Jackie), Craig (Lee Ann) and Keith (Michelle); grandchildren: Michael and Matthew, Kaitlin, Adam and Sarah; brothers and sisters: Marion (Desmond), Winston (Joyce), Ruby (Kevin), Louis (Pansy), Eleanor (Terry), Rita (Barrie) and Pauline (Sterling); brothers and sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Jim), Alice (David), Howard (Jean), Margaret (Chris); also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. McGRATH, Emma – Passed away at the Placentia Health Care Center on Monday, October 15, 2007, Emma McGrath of St. Bride’s, P. Bay, age 77 years. Predeceased by her parents William and Amelia McLennon, sisters: Caroline (Jack) and Imelda (Jim), brothers: Albert McLennon and Richard McLennon, Niece Marion Fisher and deceased members of the McGrath family. She leaves to mourn her loving husband and best friend David; her daughter Julia (Rick); grandchildren: Trent and Courtney; great-grandson Reid; her sister Ann McLennon; sisters-in-law: Nancy McGrath, Annie McGrath, Lucy Strickland, Christable Conway, and Margaret McLennon; brother-in-law Edward McGrath (Bride); as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. VELEY, Leonard William (1928 - 2006) – Retired manager of Blackwood Hodge Atlantic. Passed away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Friday, March 24, 2006, Leonard William Veley of St. John’s, aged 77 years. Predeceased by parents Robert and Mildred Veley. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his devoted wife of 47 years, Rita (nee Golden) . Daughters Sharon and Deanne, son Gordon (Edith), two grandchildren, Darryl and Leanne Veley, and three great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Hunter and Lilly.
