STREETER, Violet Alexandria – Passed peacefully away on her 94th birthday at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on August 9, 2007, Violet Alexandria Streeter of St. John’s. Predeceased by her husband, Alfred in 1992; her parents, Clara and John Tilley; sisters: Olive and Muriel. Leaving to mourn her two daughters: Sonia (Arthur) May, Renata (James) Keats and son, Wendell (Shirley) . Leaving to cherish with many fond memories are ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother William (Margaret) Tilley; one niece; five nephews and a large circle of friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Funeral service will be held at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. Interment to take place on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or the Arthur and Sonia May Scholarship Fund, c/o Memorial University.

VALLIS, George – Passed peacefully away at Perlican Terrace Apts., Old Perlican Tuesday, August 7, 2007, George Vallis of Sibleys Cove, age 75 years. Leaving to mourn two daughters: Jean Gardner (Paul), St. John's, Peggy Gulliford (Paul), Hant's Harbour; five sons: Steve (Irene), B.C., Wayne (Karen), St. John's, Joe (Esma), N.S., Kenny (Sharon), Brownsdale and Perry (Tracy), Corner Brook; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson; also a large circle of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Green's Funeral Home, Winterton on Friday, August 10, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Inurnment to take place in the Anglican Church Cemetery, English Harbour West at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

EDWARDS, Martin (Max) – At Lakeside Home in Gander on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Martin is survived by Betty, his wife of 63 years; daughter, Jean Edwards Stacey (Peter); sons: Paul (Susan), Peter and Kenny (Jung Ae); brother Ken; grandchildren: David, Robyn and Chris (So Won) Stacey and Scott Edwards. Predeceased by sister-in-law Ena Farrell Edwards and nephew Shawn Edwards. Born in Lawn, Placentia Bay on October 11, 1917, Martin was the son of Martin and Mary (Molly Green) Edwards. Served overseas with the 125 (Newfoundland) Squadron, RAF during World War Two. He married Betty Kern of Swansea, Wales on April 18, 1944. Settled in Gander in 1946 where Betty still lives. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander Friday, August 24th. Funeral service at St. Joseph’s RC Church in Gander on Saturday, August 25th at 12 noon. Arrangements through Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander.

FLEMING, John Edward – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on August 19, 2007, John Edward Fleming, Korean War Veteran, age 75 years. Left with fond and loving memories, his wife Esley; his children; his step-children; sisters: Agnes, Margie and Marie, as well as many another relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Tuesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, August 23rd, at 9:30 a.m. from Mary Queen of the World Church. Interment to follow at the Field of Honor, Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

GREELEY, Cyril Gordon Sr. – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Monday, August 20, 2007, age 70 years. Predeceased by his mother and father, Evelyn and Gordon and brother Bobby. Left with fond and loving memories, sons: Cyril (Dot and grandchildren Michael and Amanda) and Robert and their mother Liz and grandmother Catherine Pottle and the Pottley family; sisters: Joan (Ron), Violet (Gerry), Cynthia (Joe) and Jean and family; brothers: Clar (Yvonne), Ches (Mary), Joe (Mary) and Leonard (Debbie); as well as many other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the staff of the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex and St. Clare’s Hospital. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Monday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

HOSKINS, Bertha Lily (nee Bolt) – January 13th, 1920 - July 21st, 2006. Announcing a Memorial Service for Bertha Hoskins. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bertha Lily Hoskins announced her passing on Friday, July 31, 2006 at the Timmins and District Hospital in Timmins, Ontario at the age of 86 years. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her children: Byron Bolt (Sandi), Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Shirley LeBlanc (Victor), Kapuskasing, Ontario, Linda Porter, Southern Ontario, Loretta Lukowski (Ray), Kapuskasing, Ontario, Raymond Hoskins Jr., (Barbara), Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren: Corinne Carroll (Cory), Ottawa, Ontario, Tammy Porter, Deer Lake, Shawn Porter, Burnaby, British Columbia, Chantal and Andrew Lukowski, Kapuskasing, Ontario, Jordan Hoskins, Ottawa, Ontario, and great-grandson Conner Carroll, Ottawa, Ontario; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Hoskins (May 12th, 1988) . Friends may visit Fillatres Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive Deer Lake on Thursday August 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday August 24th, 2007 from St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Meade. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery Farm Road.

MARCH, Nita M. – August 20, 1915 - August 20, 2007. Passed peacefully away at home on her 92nd birthday, Monday, August 20, 2007, Nita Margaret March (Pitcher) of Green’s Harbour, Trinity Bay; long time teacher and former school principal. Predeceased by her loving husband Victor; sister Alma Forsey; brother Robert; sister-in-law: Mina Clarke and Gladys Fradsham. Leaving to mourn with loving memories her children: Thomas (Alvina), Clarke (Judy) and Barbara Hodder; son-in-law Oliver Hodder; grandchildren: Chantal (Jason Noseworthy), Eben (Livia), Victor (Tracie), Andrea, Douglas (Amber Efford), Margaret (Tom Carew), Victoria and Catherine Forsey; precious great-grandson David; special friend, Mrs. Doris Cumby; also lovingly remembered by a large circle of other relatives and friends. Special thanks from the family to her caregivers. Resting at Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo, Tuesday and Wednesday, August 21st and 22nd with visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Then resting at Faith United Church, Green’s Harbour Thursday, August 23, 10:00 - 12:00 noon from where the funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Faith United Church Cemetery.

McDONALD, Francis Joseph – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Sunday, August 19, 2007, Francis McDonald, age 81 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughter Anne Marie (Jamie); one grandson Ryan and very special friend and caregiver Marie Barton; one sister Annie; two brothers: Leo and Jim (Helen); sisters-in-law: Mary and Theresa McDonald, Kilbride, Rose Tobin, Witless Bay; two brothers-in-law: Patrick Tobin, Mount Pearl and Patrick Walsh, Kilbride; also a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Monday, August 20 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 21, from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 10 a.m. from St. Kevin’s Church, Goulds.
