MacNEIL, Marjorie G. – 80, St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 11, 2007. Born in St. John’s, NL, she was a daughter of the late Robert Graham Freeman, Olive (Redstone) and step-father, Hubert Rideout. Marjorie moved to Florida in 1965 (Oh, how she loved the Estate Sales) . She is survived by her daughter Olive (Holly) MacNeil, Florida; sisters: Gladys (Stu) Godden, NS, Gloria (Clarence) Fagan; and brothers: Alex (Florence) Holden, Hubert (Kathy) Rideout, CBS, NL; two grandsons, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra O’Toole and son, Robert MacNeil. Marjorie has been cremated. Burial at a later date.

MADDIGAN, Gerald Thomas – Passed peacefully away on November 14, 2007, Gerald Thomas Maddigan. Predeceased by his son, Sean, July 13, 2007. Leaving to mourn his wife Irene (Daniels); son Gerry (Sherry); daughter Donna (Dale); brother Leslie (Winnie), as well as other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 21st at 2 p.m. from Caul’s Funeral Home Chapel, LeMarchant Road. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2221 Yonge Street, Suite 601, Toronto, ON M4S 2B4

McCURDY, Sherburne Graham – March 30, 1924 - November 4, 2007. A Memorial Service will be held next Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Gower Street United Church to celebrate the life of Sherburne McCurdy, former Principal of Prince of Wales College in St. John’s. Beloved husband of Betty and father of Margaret (Terry Mackey), Earle (Charlotte Strong), Bruce (Anna Bellamy) and Jan (Sharon Gallagher) . Predeceased by his son David; parents, Raymond and Margaret (Crowe) and his sisters: Florence (Bob), Alice (Niels) and Helen. Grandfather to Beth (Dave) and Sarah (Jamie) Mackey; Peter, Ian and Fraser McCurdy; Kevin McCurdy; and Jesse, Claire and Shawn Horwood. Survived by brothers: Earle (Lois) and Arch (Phyllis) . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “David McCurdy Memorial Scholarship Fund” at Memorial University or to the Gower Street Church Organ Restoration Fund.

McKENNA, Candace Bridget – Passed peacefully away at her home in Island Harbour, Fogo Island, Candace Bridget McKenna, 18 years of age. Predeceased by William, Daryl, Samantha Walbourne, Brendon, Patsy and Shelia McKenna. Left to mourn are her loving and dedicated parents, James and Alice McKenna; sisters: Chandi (Colin Freake), Camila (Herb Stead), Carine (Colin Doody), Cayla (Rodney Doody) and inspirational baby sister Chawna. Funeral service presided by Rev. William Pearce at St. Pius X Church, Island Harbour, Fogo Island at 2:00 p.m. on November 17th, 2007. Funeral arrangements by Garry Keats, Fogo Island Funeral Home. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Candace McKenna Memorial Fund for Special Needs Children at any Scotiabank Branch. We thank you for your prayers.

NEWMAN, Edward (Ted) Anderson – Passed peacefully away at the Miller Centre on Friday, November 16th, 2007, Edward (Ted) Anderson Newman, age 80 years. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Annie Newman, step-brother Jim Ryan. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Viola (nee Squires); brothers Hugh (Margaret), Walter (Ruth); sisters Charlotte, Lucy and Joan; step-brother Frank Ryan (Angela) and Agnes Ryan; sons Edward, Henry (Harry) (Julie), Lloyd, Wayne; daughters Charlotte Stapleton (Bob), Viola Quigley (Mike), Annie Gulliver (Craig), Dianne Gulliver (Garry), Laura Cowan (Doug), Judy Newman, Marjorie Newman, Bertha Tobin (Roger), Joy Martin (Bob), Audrey O’Neill (Wally); grandchildren Eddie (Andrea), Gillian (Peter), Kathy, Ted, Brian (Melissa), Brenda (Rod), Andrea, Craig, Harry (Jenny), Troy, Annie, Chad (Corinne), Garrett (Melissa), April, Lori (Dan), Charles, John, Douglas, Andrew, Meghann, Laurel, Jennifer, Jaclyn (Carl), Billy, Matthew, Mark, Derek, Michael, Christopher, Gregory, Sarah, Jessica, Ketie, Michael, Nicholas, Ashley, Brandon, Ryan, Colin; great-grandchildren James, Alicia, Dominic, Matthew, Cora, Samantha, Nathan, Logan, Robbie, Linda; also leaving to mourn many special nieces, nephews, family and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday, November 17th, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, November 18th, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held from the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Monday, November 19th, 2007 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. As an expression of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Restoration Fund.

NORMAN, Mary Jane – (1916 - 2007) It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother on November 14, 2007. She’ll be sadly missed by her family. Mom was a former resident of Port Union and for the past number of years a resident of St. Luke’s Homes, St. John’s, where I’m sure she’ll be sadly missed by her friends and the staff. She was the eldest daughter of William and Elsie (Elliott) Gullage, East Point, Catalina. Predeceased by two infant daughters; husband Henry (1997) and son Ross (2002) . She is survived by her son Roy (Helen), Moncton, N.B.; daughters: Marilyn Hiscock (Don), CBS and Shirley Pardy (Clayton), St. John’s; daughter-in-law Joy Norman, Michigan, USA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Juanita Gush and Sylvia Martin, Paradise and brother Robert Gullage (Minnie) and family, CBS; nephews and nieces. Resting at Strathie’s Funeral Home, Catalina, Friday, November 16th, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service from Bethany United Church, Catalina, Saturday, November 17th at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the U.C. Cemetery, Catalina. God saw mom was weary and ready to come home. So God welcomed her into his arms and said, come with me. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany U.C. Cemetery, Catalina or St. Luke’s Homes.

O’BRIEN, Lloyd – Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the L.A. Miller Centre (P.C.U.), St. John’s, on Friday, November 16, 2007. Age 91 years. Predeceased by his loving wife Theresa (2006); two infants sons: William and James; parents Thomas and Ellen O’Brien; brothers Thomas, William, Albert, Benedict and Cyril; sisters Hannah O’Neill, Anne Corrigan, Bridget Lane. Leaving to mourn seven daughters: Cecilia (David) Finlay, Mary (Patrick) O’Brien, Rose (Otto) Hewlett, Pauline Bartlett (Joseph, deceased), Carmella (Dave) Downton, Florence, Edna (Gerard) Myrick; two sons: Kenneth (Lola), Fabian (Arlene); 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Vincent (Carmel); two sisters, Mary Sutton and Gertrude Sullivan; sister-in-law Pauline O’Brien; two brothers-in-law: Richard and William Kennedy; sister-in-law Sr. Rose Mary Kennedy of Presentation Convent, Grand Falls; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Fahey’s Funeral Home, Trepassey. Visitation on Saturday, November 17, from 12 noon- 10 p.m., and Sunday, November 18, from 9-11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Sunday, 11:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Trepassey. Interment to follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Trepassey.

RAYMAN, Edna – Passed away on Friday, September 28th, 2007 in Des Plaines, Illinois, Edna Rayman (nee Churley) . Edna was born in Old Perlican on April 25th, 1925, the daughter of the late Elias and Miriam (Bursey) Churley. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Churley and his wife, Myrtis (Emberley), and brother Herbert Churley. She is survived by three daughters: Lois Kennedy (Angus) of Whitbourne, Susan Nelson of Sacramento, California, and Barbara Black of Evanston, Illinois; sister-in-law, Pearl Churley; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews, a number of great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. A memorial will be held in the spring. In memory of Edna, contributions can be made to St, Andrew’s by the Sea United Church in Old Perlican.

ROBERTS, Doyle Clayton – Originally of Grand Falls, passed peacefully away, November 13, age 77. Predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce and precious daughter Kathryn and leaving to forever cherish his life with them are daughters: Carol (John), Nancy (Shane) and son Michael (Alana); sisters: Bernice (Gerald) and Barbara (Calvin) and sisters-in-law: Shirley and Marie; grandchildren: Kerstin, Heidi, John, Benjamin, Hayley, Zackary, Jennifer and Jacob, who loved their “Gramps” beyond all earthly measure. The family would like to thank all friends, especially Kirby and Pastor Murley, and Dr. St. Croix and all staff of the Gander Cancer Clinic for their kindness and support. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th; 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18th at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral service to be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Carnell’s Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be in the form of donations to The Adventist Disaster Relief Agency, Box 5001, Stn. C., St. John’s, NL, A1C 5V3 or to the health of working animals in the world’s poorest communities at The Brooke, www.thebrooke.org.
