Stokes Flossie

Passed peacefully away surrounded by her family at Brookfield Hospital on Monday, October 6, 2008, Flossie Stokes age 81 years of Cape Freels. Predeceased by her parents Cator and Alberta Stokes (formerly of Pound Cove); her husband Lloyd; daughter Elsie; sons Hayward and Calvin; sisters Melina Pickett and Eliza Rideout; brother Charles Stokes. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons and daughters Junior (Sue) of Lumsden, Phyllis (Sterling Snow) of Topsail, Mary (Walter Winters) of Wesleyville, Carson (Marilyn) of Kilbride, Lacie (Louise), Kevin (Kimberley), Barry (Deanne); daughter-in-law Yvonne; all of Cape Freels. Also left to mourn are her 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Myrtis West of Lumsden; sisters-in-law Reta Stokes and Greta Stagg both of Cape Freels and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was held at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove on October 8, with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating. Interment followed at the United Church cemetery, Cape Freels.

Sturge William Elotus

Passed peacefully away at The Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s on Monday, September 22, 2008 William Elotus Sturge age 72 years of Valleyfield. Predeceased by his daughter Pamela Joyce; parents Jacob and Louisa Sturge. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is his wife Adelaide(Addie); son William Jr.(Alicia) of Ft. McMurray, AB.; daughters June (Terrence) of Badger’s Quay, Mona (Wade) of Paradise, Pamela(Ross) of Badger’s Quay, Audrey of Calgary, AB., Sheila (Cull) of St. John’s, Lori (Don) of Corner Brook, Cordale (Stanley); brothers Avalon (Minnie) of Valleyfield, Arthur (Florence) of Badger’s Quay; sister-in-law Merida Sturge of Badger’s Quay; grandchildren Michael, Ryan, Heather, Kelly, Nicole, Justin, Leslie, Crystal, Dominique, Jacob, Jarrod, Victoria, Travis, Kendall, Adam, Ethan; great-grandchildren Marissa, Daniel, Lydia, Logan, Liam, Alex, Riley, Cooper, Cameron, Noah; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove. Visitation Wednesday 2-5, 7-9; Thursday 10-12, 2-5, 7-9. Funeral service to take place on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. from The United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. Heather Sandford officiating. Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2008 Lillian Gill age 67 years of Newtown. Resting at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove. Bemister Diana

It is with great sadness that the family announce the sudden and unexpected passing of a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt and friend to many Diana C. Bemister, affectionately named Lady Di, who passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Brampton, ON. aged 28 years of Musgrave Harbour. Predeceased by her grandfather Bert Pinsent. Diana was loved by many and she in return loved them. She constantly cared for her family and had a great love of nature. Her loving husband Danny and precious son Daniel are left to mourn her passing, along with her parents Bruce and Mona Pinsent of Musgrave Harbour; sisters Debbie Mouland (Craig) of Grande Prairie, AB., and Loretta Pinsent of Musgrave Harbour; grandparents Garf and Deb Coles of Carmanville and Gladys Stokes of Musgrave Harbour; parents-in-law Ron and Emily Bemister of Musgrave Harbour; brothers-in-law Leslie Bemister of Musgrave Harbour, Jeffery Bemister (Joanne) of Paradise and Jerry Bemister (Janelle) of Musgrave Harbour; sister-in-law Jessica (Clyde Vincent) of Musgrave Harbour; nephews and nieces Noah, Ian, Anthony, Ethan, Bailey, Teanna, Stephanie and Brittany; and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s on Monday September 15, 2008 James Duffett of Greenspond aged 60 years. Predeceased by his parents Eli and Lydia Duffett; brothers Henry and Eric; brother-in-law James(Jr) Woodland; parents-in-law George and Trixie Burry. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife June (nee Burry); loving son David and Melinda of St. Philip’s; sister Delphine Woodland of St. John’s; brother Cluney (Margaret) of Greens Harbour; sisters-in-law Patsy Burry of Kelowna, Leona Duffett of Hickman’s Harbour and Audrey Carberry of Appleton; special aunt Margaret Loder of St. John’s; and a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove. Visitation Wednesday 10-12, 2-5, 7-9; Thursday at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Greenspond from where the funeral will take place on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Interfaith cemetery, Greenspond. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Greenspond or to a charity of one’s choice.

Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on Sunday, September 14, 2008 Annie Coles age 82 years of Aspen Cove. Predeceased by her parents Ralph and Dulcie Chaulk; son Winston; brother Garland and Clyde. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband Wilfred of 65 years; son Oliver (Wilena) of Aspen Cove; daughters Judy Chaulk (Elmore) of Lewisporte, Sheila Chaulk (Danny) of Lewisporte; daughter-in-law; Jean Coles, one brother; Joe Chaulk (Verna), one sister-in-law; Lily Coles (Harold) all of Aspen Cove, 9 grandchildren; Roxanne, Karen, Mike, Tina, Lorna, Jamie, Joanna, Deon and Darren, 11 great-grandchildren and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Perry Guy

Perry, Guy - It is with great sadness that the family of Guy Perry announce his passing on September 11, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born March 11, 1959, son of Baxter Perry and the late Dorothy Perry. Pearl, Scott (Brenda) of Templeman; sisters Mary Ellen (Wallace Purchase) of Toronto, ON, Bessie (Gordon Downer) of Gander, Alfreda (William Kean) of Wesleyville; sister-in-law Lurley Norris of Lumsden; a large number of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Spurrell Mary

Spurrell, Mary Louise (Hillier - nee Stokes) - Passed peacefully away on September 5, 2008 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Mary Louise Spurrell (Hillier, nee Stokes) of Valleyfield (Newtown, Cape Freels) at the age of 77 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her husband Esau and her children Mollie Barbour (Wayne), Ellis Hillier, Donna McGrath (Phil), and Valerie Howe (David). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Sherri Rowsell (Chad), Lori Barbour (Chad Howell), Andrea Gillespie, Allison O’Keefe (Charlie), Emily and Ashley Howe and great-grandchildren Matthew, Julia, Jason and Samantha Rowsell; Joshua Barbour and Katie Barbour-Howell; and Caleb Gillespie-Hanlon. Left with lifelong memories, sisters Greta Stagg and Sybil Hillier (Thomas) and sisters-in-law Mary Stokes and Flossie Stokes. Mary will also be dearly missed by her large circle of other family members and loving friends. Predeceased by her first husband Edward Hillier; parents Jesse and Jane Stokes; brothers Lloyd, Ronald and Allan Stokes; sisters Elsie Barbour, Alma Blackwood and Millie Williams; and granddaughter Angela Gillespie. She was a devoted wife and proud mother and grandmother, loyal friend and dedicated member of her church. Special thank you to Dr. Brahmbhatt and all the wonderful staff at the James Paton Memorial Hospital and Brookfield Hospital for their tender care and kindness during her stays there.
