REID, Robert (Bob) - Formerly of Bell Island. Passed peacefully away at his home in Toronto on Friday, April 06, 2001, aged 68 years. Predeceased by his parents James and Mary Reid. Lovingly remembered by sister Helen Connors (Hugh, deceased), St. John`s and brother William (Carrie), Grand Falls, and their families; as well as family and many friends in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Newfoundland; especially his friends: Pam Maher, Betty Saunders, Gus Connors and Margaret 'Peg' Connors. At Bob`s request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, April 13, 2001 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral Service to take place from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, April 14 2001 at 2:0 p.m. followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Donations in Bob`s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

GRANDY, Hubert Jesse - Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin on September 30, 2001, Mr. Hubert Jesse Grandy of Garnish, in his 92nd year. Predeceased by son Melvin. Leaving to mourn wife Ida; daughter-in-law Joan, Mt. Pearl; grandchildren: David, Vancouver, British Columbia, Lisa and husband Dean Barnes, Mount Pearl; one great-grandchild Mitchell Barnes; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be conducted by Rev. Robert Peddle at St. Giles Anglican Church in Garnish at a time and date to be announced. Interment St. Giles Anglican cemetery in Garnish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Giles Anglican Church cemetery Fund.

HAMILTON, James (Jim) - Aged 77 years. Surrounded by his family, Jim passed to eternal rest at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on September 29, 2001. Gone before him is his daughter, Maureen Furlong (December 1995). Mourning his passing are his wife, Maxine; children and spouses: Anne and Pat Donnelly, Jean Hamilton and Jeff Fleet, Jim Jr. and Helenna Hamilton, Sharon O`Neill, Greg and Janice Hamilton, Debbie and Gord Simms, Joan Hamilton, Gerard and Sharon Hamilton; grandchildren: Michael Donnelly, Robert and Rodney (Sherry) White, Jimmy (Sherry) and Mitchell Hamilton, Sarah and Matthew Furlong, Stephen O`Neill, Laura and Douglas Hamilton, Joey, Gregory, Ryan and Jeremy Simms, Stefanie Hamilton; great-granddaughter, Nikia Hamilton; very special family friend, Sharon Reddy; sister, Madeline Holmes, U.S.A., sister-in-law, Jean French and a large circle of other family and friends. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. from 7-10 p.m. Sunday, Monday 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick`s Church, Patrick St., on Tuesday, October 2 at 9:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim`s memory to St. Patrick`s Church, Patrick St. would be greatly appreciated. 'He`ll bear you up on eagle`s wings.'

MAYNARD, Mary Ellen (nee Ryan) - passed away at St. Patrick`s Mercy Home on Sunday, September 30, 2001, Mary Maynard, aged 82. Predeceased by her husband Francis, 1986. Left to mourn with loving memories, her children: Maureen, Edmonton, Joseph and wife Carol, Calgary, Mary Edith (Deedy) and husband David, St. John`s, Francis and wife Shelley, St. John`s, Agnes, Edmonton, James and wife Janet, Spruce Grove. Mary left a legacy in her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also mourning her loss are her sister, Sister Margaret Ryan, St. Joseph`s Presentation Convent, Grand Falls-Windsor; and her brothers: Paul, St. John`s, Leonard, Toronto and Dermot, Winnipeg. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd., on Tuesday and Wednesday 2-9 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be held at the Basilica on Thursday, October 04 at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Mt. Carmel cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Mary`s memory may be made to the St. Patrick`s Mercy Home Foundation.

MATTHEWS, Cerick - passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 30, 2000, Cerick Matthews of Musgravetown, aged 83 years. Predeceased by his wife Laura, 1993. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons: Lorne (Edna), Musgravetown, Clyde (Sandra), Shoal Harbour and Harvey (Mona), St. John`s; daughters: Jean Piercey (Selby), Shoal Harbour, Sylvia Prince (Heber), Paradise and Janice Matthews (Lindy), Musgravetown; grandchildren: Lorna, Lynn, Sonya, Ryan, Andrew, Andrea and Ian; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer`s Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2000 from Heritage United Church, Musgravetown. Interment at United Church cemetery, Musgravetown. TAYLOR, Carlson (Carl) - Passed peacefully away at Placentia Health Care Complex on Saturday, September 29, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. Age 56 years. During his last hours he was surrounded by family. Predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Florence Taylor of Freshwater; and brothers: Clarence Jr. and Foster. Leaving to mourn his wife Louise (nee Stoodley); son Carlson 'Chos' (Tina) and granddaughter April; daughter Carlene and grandson Krae who held a special place in his heart. Also mourning the loss of a dear brother are Gerald (Rose), Mt. Pearl, Dave (Priscilla), St. John`s, Fraser (Lorraine), Dunville, Sam (Myrna), Calgary, Bernice (Mike) Fitzpatrick, St. John`s, Gloria (Charles) Bickford, Bell Island, Beulah (Peyton) O`Reilly, Jerseyside, Roma (Lorne) Clark, Dunville, Judy (Albert) Bartlett, Nova Scotia, Debbie (Lee) Slade, Freshwater; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Carl will be sadly missed by a large circle of loyal family and friends. Resting at Maher`s Funeral Home, Placentia with visitation on Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Monday 2-10 p.m.; and Tuesday 10 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Maher`s Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 2nd at 2 p.m. Interment at Dermot McGettigan Memorial cemetery, Southeast, Placentia. Flowers will be accepted with appreciation. We would like Carl`s extended family and friends to know that in recognition of his athletic abilities and achievements, Carl is a member of the Nfld. and Labrador Softball Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Bell Island Sports Hall of Fame on October 6, 2001.

HYNES, Mary Louise (nee Cross) - Passed peacefully away at age 96 at her son`s home in Nova Scotia on Friday, January 24, 2003. Predeceased by her husband Gerald in 1981. Predeceased by her four brothers Bill, Jack, Herbert, and Frank. Leaving to mourn: son Bill, daughter-in-law Gisa, daughter Frances, son-in-law Frederic, grandchildren Tyson, Ardelle, Alden, Freddie, Philip and Adrian, great- grandchildren Toren and Esja, dear cousin and lifetime friend Dorothy Moore and many relatives and friends. The funeral will take place on Feb. 7, 2003 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas` Anglican Church, St. John`s. Flowers or donations to Alzheimer`s Reseach will be gratefully accepted in her memory.

His loving grandchildren: Michael and Chris Farrell; Janelle, Stephanie and Angela Powers; Andrew and Michael Haire III; Spencer and Alyta Langmead. Also leaving to mourn sisters: Charlotte, Maisie, Effie, Jean, Phyllis and Mary; and brother Tom. Three grandchildren: Sammi-Jo, Mary Beth, and Joshua.
