GROVES, Esther Josephine - passed away peacefully at the Holyes-Escasoni Complex on August 5, 2003 in her 88th year, Esther Josephine Groves. Predeceased by husband George James Groves (1979), son Stephen Groves (1942). Left with fond memories are sons George (Irene), Celestine (Patricia), Robert Alexander (Sharon), Kenneth (Penny); daughters Ina (Robert Byrne), Veronica (Patrick Walsh), Ruth (Pierre Rivard), Bertha Ellis, Marilyn (Edward Rumsey), Ann-Marie (Skip Hurley), Esther (James Scoville). Also left to mourn 31 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral mass will be held from St. Teresa`s Parish on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, Thursday and Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Interment will be at the Anglican cemetery, Forest Road. Flowers accepted or donations can be made to the Diabetes Association or the Parkinsons Foundation.

Survived by daughter Julie (Joe Blaha) of Virginia; sisters: Mercedes Robinson, Chester, Virginia; Sevilla Owczarack, Colonial Heights, Virginia; Julie Alam (John), South Orange, New Jersey; Joan Andrews, St. John`s; stepchildren: Maureen (John Whiffen), Fox Harbour; Anita (Bob MacLeod), BC; John Hann (Rita), Quebec; Tom Hann (Margaret), Alberta; four grandchildren: Michelle, Chester, Virginia; Christine Evans (J.D.), Ford, Virginia; Lori A. Lively (Charles), Prince George, Virginia; Sandra L. Hegamyer (Stephen), Mechanicsville, Virginia; six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 5, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. from Corpus Christi Church. Interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Predeceased by her sisters May (Power), Anna (Cashin), Dorothy (McMahon) and her brothers Arthur, Ambrose and Samuel. She leaves to mourn many nephews and nieces. Funeral service at the Lady`s Chapel of St. Patrick`s Basilica, 454 Rene Levesque West, Montreal on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. Family will receive condolences at the Lady`s Chapel one hour prior to service. Interment at the Field of Honour cemetery, Pointe Claire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Benedict Labre House 1857, boulevard de Maisonneuve Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3H 1J9, or to a charity of your choice.

Left with fond memories are his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Harriet; 8 children: Bazel (Barb), Stan (Denise), Melvin (Barbara), Evelyn (Wayne), Harold (Ivy), Jackie, Clara (Blaine), Connie (Lees); sisters, Gertrude Churchill (Egbert) and Ethel; brother William (Rita); 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special grandchildren: Shane, Chad and Jade and friend Wilson Andrews; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 2-10 p.m. an Sunday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. from Memorial United Church, Portugal Cove-St. Philip`s followed by cremation. Interment on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the United Church cemetery, Bauline Line. As an expression of sympathy, friends or relatives may send flowers or charitable donations in his memory to the Memorial United Church Building Fund.

He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his wife of 69 years, Florizel (Floss) LeDrew; six children: Shirley Joan Sweetland (Fred), David Barry LeDrew (Betty Lou), Steward Boyd LeDrew (Joan), Brenda Jane (Vince Keyes), Deborah Francis LeDrew (Frank Balogh), Terry Denise LeDrew; grandchildren: Chris, Jane, Ann, Barry Robert, Nancy, Vicky, Stephen, Frank, Lisa, Susan, Scott, Nicole, Shelly, Peter, Brock, Cindy, Karen, Stephen, Sheila, Kip, Rachael, Richard, Cristy, Buster and Shadow; great-grandchildren: Erin, Amy, Zachary, Joshua and Nathan, Adam and Andrea, Courtney, Jason, Nicole and Jessie, Caleb, David, Peter and Leslie-Ann, Sarah, Heather, Rebecca, Kirsten, Erika, Andrew, Heather and Scott, Shannon, Diane, Sarah, Amy J., Mathieu, Alexandre, Jacinta, Danica; special friends Sandra Skeard, Wanda Hynes and numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Peter John LeDrew; siblings: Ida Edens, Hazel Pollard-Burnell, William LeDrew, Walter LeDrew, Kathleen (Kit) MacGillivray, Vera McLean, Robert LeDrew, Boyd LeDrew. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 3rd at 2:00 p.m. from the Humber Valley United Church, Pasadena, Reverend Tony Newell officiating. Cremation to follow. Friends may visit The Humber Valley United Church, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pasadena Lions Club. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre`s Funeral Homes Ltd., Corner Brook.

CAREW, William Alphonse - Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on Monday, January 27, 2003, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, William Alphonse Carew, age 67 years. Leaving to mourn with loving memories his wife Geraldine; children: Kenneth (Marguerite), David and Verna (David Burkinshaw); five dearly loved grandchildren: Meghan, Mark, Matthew, Melanie and James; sisters: Aneitha Sheaves and Selena Parsons; brothers: Frank (Mary) and Eric (Sylvia), and many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with his wishes, a private family service in celebration of his life will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road. No visitation or flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to any local food bank. The family extends a sincere thank you to the doctors and staff of the Health Sciences Centre and the Leonard A. Miller Centre for their professional and compassionate care.

Predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary; sister Florence and brother Raymond. She leaves to mourn her loving and supportive husband Terry Barnes; brothers: Edward (Nell), Eric (Madonna); sister-in-law Bernadette and their families, all of St. John`s; and brother-in-law Peter Carmody (Shirley) and family of Iverness, Scotland. Also leaving to mourn her mother-in-law Edna Barnes; brothers-in-law Randy (Madonna), Darrell (Lorilee), Johnny (Julie); sisters-in-law Karen Synyard (Johnny) and Joanne Dwyer (Jim), as well as a large number of relatives and friends, especially her loyal caregiver and dear friend Jackie Hennessey. Remains resting at Caul`s Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road. Visitation Friday 7-10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral Mass from St. John Bosco Church on Monday, August 5th at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Rest in peace.
